Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay had six receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 game against the New Orleans Saints Monday, Sept. 30.
Fantasy Tip: Clay has four or more receptions in each of his four games, and he has two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) over the past three games. He has emerged as a solid RB2/3 or flex play in fantasy leagues which reward points per reception (PPR).

The coaching staff of the Miami Dolphins is impressed with the progress of TE Charles Clay, who has 163 receiving yards through the first two games. "He's playing faster. His play speed is better," head coach Joe Philbin said Monday, Aug. 16. "He's a smart player."
Fantasy Tip: Clay is starting to draw the eye of fantasy owners, too, as he is 21st in the league in receiving yards - and fourth among players who do not play wide receiver. Still, he is a fringe fantasy player in leagues of 12 or fewer players until he can show this type of production on a longer-term basis.

Miami Dolphins TE Michael Egnew saw his snaps on offense reduced to just nine in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts, as the emergence of TE Charles Clay as a receiver has hurt Egnew's playing time. In addition, TE Dion Sims saw 35 snaps, more than double his time from Week 1.

Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay played 64 of the team's 70 offensive snaps Week 1, but offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said that is likely too many snaps for Clay to handle.

Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay will get the opportunity to be the team's starting tight end in 2013. "You'd have to give the nod to Clay as the starter," Sherman said. "He'll play in a bunch of different packages. He'll play in the backfield as well as on the line of scrimmage. He'll play split out. He'll do a lot of different things for us, and he's more than capable."

Miami Dolphins TE Charles Clay could receive a bigger role on offense this season because he is similar to TE Dustin Keller (knee) in terms of being a seam threat.

The Miami Dolphins have used an empty backfield setup with five players lined up as receivers, including WRs Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline, RB Lamar Miller, TE Dustin Keller and either WR Brandon Gibson or TE Charles Clay. The team even practiced with that grouping in goal line situations. "That surprised me and I'm on the team," Wallace said. "If we can do that, we'll keep catching teams off guard and get a lot of mismatches we want."

Miami Dolphins FBs Jorvorskie Lane and Evan Rodriguez might not be kept, as TE Charles Clay has the versatility to play both fullback and tight end.
