Cowboys | DeMarco Murray was limited Thursday

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 13:40:41 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) was listed as a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 18, after not practicing Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Murray ($8,200) seems primed to play against the Indianapolis Colts. He could have his touches limited a bit, but if he's in the starting lineup, he should be a good target at FantasyScore against a Colts squad that has been hurt by bruising rushers like Murray most of the year.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray not at further risk

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 11:34:19 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand), who was expected to take some team snaps in practice Thursday, Dec. 18, is in no more risk if he plays in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts than if he sits out this week, according to head coach Jason Garrett. Murray had a plate and screws put into his broken left hand to stabilize the fourth metacarpal. He's been wearing a hard plastic shell on top of his glove for more protection.

Fantasy Tip: As of now, all signs are pointing to Murray ($8,200) playing against the Colts. If he's playing, he should be in all standard league lineups and is a good source of points at FantasyScore.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 18, and did receive some snaps in team drills.

Fantasy Tip: Murray's status for Week 16 is still in question at this time, but it looks like he has a chance to play. Murray costs $8,200 on FantasyScore but is a risky option, because he could be limited by the injury.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray officially doesn't practice

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 13:52:58 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) did not officially take part in the team's practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Murray ($8,200) took part in individual drills during practice, and the team is still gauging if he can play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts. If he plays, he could be limited. Both Joseph Randle ($5,900) and Lance Dunbar ($3,000) are nice fall-back options at FantasyScore.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray works with first-team

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 10:18:18 -0800

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) wasn't expected to do a lot at practice Wednesday, Dec. 17, but he took first-team snaps at running back while wearing a pad on top of his left hand. Head coach Jason Garrett said the team wanted to see him work in practice to make sure he could carry the ball under duress. "You start with a plan and a vision for what you need to have there and then you just go through feedback, with DeMarco and the training staff, you try to get it to the point where it's functional and comfortable for him to go play," Garrett said of the added protection. "It's an evolution. They'll talk back and forth as the week goes on hopefully get something he's comfortable with."

Fantasy Tip: Murray ($8,200) has yet to be ruled out for Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts, which is a good matchup for running backs. He's a mighty risky play at FantasyScore, but the fact that he's practicing early in the week is a good sign that he'll suit up. If you go with Murray in your daily lineups, keep Joseph Randle ($5,900) and Lance Dunbar ($3,000) handy in case he doesn't play.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray on the field

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 09:27:35 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is participating in individual drills during practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Murray had hand surgery two days ago, but it appears he has a chance to play in Week 16. Owners should monitor the situation during the week to receive a better idea of his status. Murray could be limited if he is active for the game. Murray is a risky option on FantasyScore at $8,200 and may be too expensive for some owners because of the hand injury.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray in good spirits

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 16:08:28 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand), who had his left hand heavily wrapped past his wrist Tuesday, Dec. 16, said he didn't have any pain after his surgery. "I'm good," Murray said. "I'm great." The team remains optimistic that Murray can play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts, but they won't know until later in the week. Murray will wear a protective glove on his left hand with extra padding on top regardless of if he plays Sunday, Dec. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Murray ($8,200) could easily be a game-time decision, making him an extremely risky FantasyScore option against the Indianapolis Colts. the team is confident in Joseph Randle ($5,900) and Lance Dunbar ($3,000) if they have to step up and carry the load. Dunbar has a much better chance at returning value in PPR leagues like FantasyScore if Murray doesn't play.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray to be game-time decision?

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 14:42:03 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) will likely be a game-time decision against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16, according to owner Jerry Jones. Jones said the team is still evaluating Murray's status for this weekend. "I think we just want to take a look at it. We don't know," Jones said. "I'm not so sure, when they say the definition of healing, how much can heal between now and Sunday." RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar will prepare for increased workloads if Murray can't play, and RB Ryan Williams could be activated off the practice squad.

Fantasy Tip: With Dallas playing an afternoon game Sunday, that makes Murray ($8,200) even more risky at FantasyScore in Week 16. Randle ($5,900) and Dunbar ($3,000) are both more than acceptable plays against a weak Colts run D if Murray sits out. Dunbar is probably the better value play at FantasyScore, though, since it's a PPR league.

Cowboys | Owner optimistic on DeMarco Murray

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 10:14:28 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) has a good chance to play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts despite having surgery on a broken left hand, according to owner Jerry Jones. However, Jones thinks RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar can carry the load efficiently if Murray has to sit. Jones also added that Murray won't need to practice this week in order to play.

Fantasy Tip: As of right now, Murray's $8,200 FantasyScore salary seems much too risky against the Indianapolis Colts, who have been run on mostly all year. You'll need to keep track of Murray's status throughout the week, and the fact that they play an afternoon game makes him all the more risky. However, having either Randle ($5,900) or Dunbar ($3,000) to fall back on is nice.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray not risking further injury

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 06:15:19 -0800

Updating an earlier report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) isn't risking further injury by playing in Week 16. The team believes he can play.

Fantasy Tip: If Murray plays, we don't see a full workload. Murray ($8,200; 16.4% of your cap) would likely lose touches to Joseph Randle ($5,900; 11.8%) could have some value on FantasyScore if he etches a significant role.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray with early optimism

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 05:51:18 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) could play in Week 16, in the opinion of beat writer Bryan Broaddus. At least, that is the team's early thinking.

Fantasy Tip: Murray ($8,200; 16.4% of your cap) is not a real good start on FantasyScore for Week 16. The matchup and the injury don't make it a worthwhile risk.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray facing uphill battle

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 14:23:55 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is facing an uphill battle in terms of his availability for the team's Week 16 game, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones. Jones said Murray should be able to play in Week 17 if he does not play Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to see what Murray can do during practice this week in order to have a better idea of his status for Week 16. Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar could share the work at running back if Murray misses the game. Randle may receive a majority of the carries, which would make him valuable in standard leagues. Dunbar could be a sleeper in point-per-reception leagues, because he could be more involved in the passing league.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray has good chance to play?

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 14:08:20 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) has a good chance to play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts after breaking a bone in his left hand, according to a team source. "Obviously, DeMarco Murray has a broken bone in his hand," owner Stephen Jones said. "At the same time, he hasn't been ruled out. It's not something that if it responds well after surgery today, that he can't come back and play this weekend. It's probably a tough expectation to think that he can, but we'll see."

Fantasy Tip: Murray will be a risky selection at FantasyScore this week, but you'll want to monitor his practice status this week to see if he has a shot at playing. The Indianapolis Colts have been a doormat for running backs this year, so if Murray doesn't play, both Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar could be nice plays at FantasyScore.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray undergoing surgery

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 11:46:09 -0800

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is undergoing surgery Monday, Dec. 15, to repair the broken fourth metacarpal in his hand, according to a source. Former Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith underwent a similar surgery during his career and missed one game.

Fantasy Tip: Murray may have to miss the team's Week 16 game because of the surgery, but he has not been ruled out yet. Murray's practice participation likely will give owners a better understanding of his status. Owners should have a backup plan ready in case Murray is not able to play. Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar likely will receive big workload boosts if Murray misses the game against the Indianapolis Colts, and it's a solid matchup for Dallas. It's unclear how the carries will be shared between Randle and Dunbar if Murray sits out, but Randle should likely be the waiver-wire priority here. However, Dunbar could be more valuable in PPR leagues such as FantasyScore.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray has broken bone in hand

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 11:26:28 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) suffered a broken bone in his hand during the team's Week 15 game and will undergo surgery Monday, Dec. 15, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones. Murray has not been ruled out for Week 16 at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to watch his practice participation during the week to see if Murray is able to play in Week 16. Murray should be a starting option if he plays, but owners likely would need to lower expectations some because of the injury. Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle likely would share work if Murray misses the game, but Dunbar likely would be the more attractive option for owners since he probably would receive a majority of the carries.

Cowboys | No decrease in DeMarco Murray's load

Tue, 09 Dec 2014 21:47:26 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray carried the ball a career-high 32 times in the Week 14 game against the Chicago Bears, and he also had a career-best nine receptions. He said he feels great, and the workload isn't a concern to Murray or head coach Jason Garrett. "DeMarco is a guy who has shown he can handle the workload, both as a runner and a receiver," Garrett said Tuesday, Dec. 9. "He wants more. He never wants to come out of the game. He's a bell cow player and it doesn't look like he's slowing down at all to me. He feels great, he says he feels great and really looks like he's playing a very high level."

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners in weekly leagues will be glad to hear there is no decrease in the offing for Murray, especially as the playoffs continue in Week 15. FantasyScore owners continue to get their money's worth, too, even at a lofty salary of $7,900 (or 15.8 percent of the cap).

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray carries the load

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 20:54:06 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray finished with 32 carries for 179 yards and a score and nine catches for 49 yards in a 41-28 win over the Chicago Bears Thursday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Murray was a workhorse, and with the Cowboys fighting to make the playoffs, it appears they have no plans on scaling back his heavy load. In fact, Dallas may be planning on using him more often down the stretch based on his 41 touches Thursday. As long as he is healthy, Murray should remain one of the safest options available at running back at FantasyScore.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray struggles

Thu, 27 Nov 2014 19:22:50 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray rushed for a season-low 73 yards in a 33-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, Nov. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Murray also averaged a season-worst 3.7 yards per carry, but he did salvage his day to a degree by finding the end zone. Overall, the Eagles were able to control Murray like no team has all season, and fantasy owners need to file this performance away for when these teams meet again in Week 15.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray ready to carry the load

Tue, 18 Nov 2014 09:30:30 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray, who has already passed career highs for rushing yards and carries, said he is ready for an even bigger role down the stretch. "I'm ready," Murray said. "Like I've said before, whatever they ask me to do I'm going to do it times 10. It's going to be an exciting next couple of weeks for us." He said the team's bye week allowed him to relax and recharge.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is obviously a must-start in all fantasy football leagues with the year he's been having. Coming out of the bye, you should definitely consider putting him on your FantasyScore roster against the New York Giants on Sunday night.

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 17:54:09 -0800

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (head) left to be evaluated for concussion in the Week 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. However, he was able to return to the game and had rush attempts in the fourth quarter before RB Joseph Randle finished up.

Fantasy Tip: Murray came back into the game, but did not run deep into the fourth quarter because of the lopsided score. Murray reached 100 yards before departing, and he appears to be fine after a scare for his fantasy owners.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (head) appeared to be undergoing concussion tests on the sideline during the team's Week 10 game. It is not known if he will return to the game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to wait for an update on Murray until after the game or in the next day or so. Murray has been one of the top fantasy running back this season and should be a starter every week.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray's streak broken

Sun, 02 Nov 2014 14:11:46 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray's record streak of eight straight 100-yard games ended in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals. He finished with 79 yards on 19 carries. The Cardinals rush defense hasn't allowed a 100-yard rusher in 18 straight games.

Fantasy Tip: The streak wasn't going to last forever, and Murray still had a pretty decent performance despite the tough matchup. He'll look to start a new streak in Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in a very favorable matchup for FantasyScore owners.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray became the first running back to reach 1,000 yards this season during the team's Week 8 game Monday, Oct. 27. He finished the game with 19 carries for 141 yards and four catches for 80 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Murray continues to be the one of the steadiest, strongest performers at any position for fantasy owners, and despite a tough matchup against Arizona on deck in Week 9, Murray is worth starting at FantasyScore.

Fri, 24 Oct 2014 21:29:10 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray worked out with TE Jason Witten before the team's official offseason program, and he credits the veteran tight end with his increased stamina and durability. "It helped a lot, obviously with the stamina aspect just building a good armor for your body so you can take some hits and take the pounding of a long season," Murray said Friday, Oct. 24. "He's done it for a long time and he's someone who has had a lot of success in this league and he knows what to do to take care of your body in season and out of season, so it helped extremely a lot and I have to thank him and we're still working together."

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray makes NFL history

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 18:26:22 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is the first played in NFL history with over 100 rushing yards in each of his first seven games to begin a season, surpassing Hall of Fame RB Jim Brown.

Fantasy Tip: Murray left the game briefly to have his ankle re-taped, but obviously the injury wasn't a hindrance. He has been unreal for fantasy owners in seasonal leagues, and even with a high price in FantasyScore he is worth using week in and week out.

Cowboys | Tyler Clutts earning roster spot

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 20:39:12 -0700

Dallas Cowboys FB Tyler Clutts is earning his roster spot with the team. He is still averaging just nine snaps per game, but he played a season-high 14 snaps in Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks. In that game, he had a key block on a 25-yard run by RB DeMarco Murray in the fourth quarter, and Murray's 15-yard touchdown run two plays later. He also had a good block in a crucial situation in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Clutts, himself, does not have fantasy appeal, but Murray's fantasy value certainly is helped by the solid blocking of the back. Should Clutts go down to injury, we might see a decrease in Murray's production.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray expected to play

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 12:23:02 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 17, and is listed as probable for Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Murray has a hefty price tag on FantasyScore at $7,900 this week but has shown that he is one of the top fantasy running backs, so owners should consider using him if they are willing to spend the money.

Thu, 16 Oct 2014 13:09:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (illness) returned to a full practice Thursday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is the highest priced running back for a reason at FantasyScore. He's the league's leading rusher, and the Cowboys haven't slowed down his workload in recent weeks despite saying they would. Even if he receives fewer touches, he should be able to do plenty of damage against the New York Giants in Week 7.

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 09:37:36 -0700

Tue, 14 Oct 2014 18:14:34 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray said he is not concerned about his heavy workload this year and isn't letting it affect the way he runs.

Fantasy Tip: Murray has been one of the steadiest players at any position this year, and he should have another big game in Week 7 when the Cowboys face a New York Giants defense that just allowed the Eagles to run for more than 200 yards. Murray will take up 15.8% of the cap ($7,900) at FantasyScore, and he makes a great high-priced option to build a lineup around.

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 13:17:10 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray has started preliminary talks on a contract extension with the team. He is entering the final year of his four-year deal, and his base salary for this season is $1.3 million. The Cowboys could decide to put the transition tag on him.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys will do everything in their power to keep Murray around long term. He's the leading rusher heading into Week 6 and should be started in all formats, although his matchup against the Seattle Seahawks this weekend is a tough one on the road.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray's workload to decrease?

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 14:38:58 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is likely to have his workload lessened by head coach Jason Garrett to preserve him for the long season. Murray is currently on pace to tie Larry Johnson's single-season record for carries with 416. Murray has run the ball 130 times for 670 yards in the team's first five games of the season. He carried a career-high 31 times for 136 yards in Week 5. Murray has had at least 22 carries in the five games, which is the most he's had in any five-game span in his career.

"DeMarco was out there and we think that's probably too many carries in the game, week in and week out," Garrett said. "He ended up with 31 so we'd like to get that number lower. We'd really just like to get the other guys an opportunity. I don't see any wear and tear in DeMarco but having said that, we want to make sure we create a rotation and we'll focus on doing that in the next few weeks." Murray has never had more than 217 carries in a season. RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar have combined for 22 carries and 88 yards.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't discourage you from using Murray in your daily lineups at FantasyScore. He has been the most productive back in fantasy football, and that shouldn't change drastically with fewer touches.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is arguably the most valuable fantasy player right now. His $7,900 price tag (15.8% of your cap) on FantasyScore is cumbersome. You have to wonder how much you can profit at that price, but he's a must-start in all leagues.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray looking to protect ball

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 15:03:35 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray will return to the ball-carrying style he used in his first three seasons with the team when he lost just three fumbles. Murray has already fumbled twice in the first two games of this season while carrying the ball with his left hand. "You definitely make more plays when the ball is in your outside hand," Murray said, "(but) just got to be smart about it and see what happens. Can't overthink it, so I'm not worried about it." Murray rushed a career-high 29 times against the Tennessee Titans in Week 2, and his 51 carries are the most in a two-game span in his career.

Fantasy Tip: One has to wonder if this will limit his big-play ability, but it's really nothing that should affect his fantasy value. Murray is the most expensive running back at FantasyScore this week ($8,600), making a return on investment tough to come by against the St. Louis Rams.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray contract looming?

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 11:26:40 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray may be in talks with the team about a new contract in the near future. Chief operating officer Stephen Jones said the team wouldn't be against giving Murray a new contract and that they desire to keep him in Dallas long-term, adding that Murray has increased that desire with his play so far this season.

Fantasy Tip: So far, Murray has proven that last season was not a fluke. He's a legitimate RB1 through the rest of the season and is probably worth any price on FantasyScore.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray not focused on stats

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 09:55:46 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray said he is only focused on getting better, and not on his stats. "Well, I'm focused on getting better right now," Murray said. "I'm not worried about individual accolades. I'm trying to get better every day and help this team out. Once the preseason is over I'll sit down and talk about it with myself team goal as well as individual."

Fantasy Tip: The main concern with Murray is health, but he is a solid RB1 in all formats heading into the 2014 season.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray to lead committee?

Wed, 13 Aug 2014 11:06:46 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is expected to receive most of the carries this season, but other running backs could also receive some snaps as part of a committee at running back, according to Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is entering the season as the starter but does come with an injury risk. He has never played 16 games in any of his three seasons with the Cowboys. Murray probably will be a starter in most fantasy leagues, but owners should have other strong running backs on their roster in case he suffers an injury during the season.

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray looks ready for another 1,000-yard season, as he has been strong and decisive in training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is one of the few running backs in the NFL these days that isn't in some sort of timeshare in the backfield. He's an all-purpose back that is a definite RB1 when he can stay on the field.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray, Jason Witten expected to sit

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 09:13:08 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray and TE Jason Witten are not expected to play in the first preseason game, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Neither player needs to play in the first preseason game but should receive playing time at some point during the preseason. Both players should be considered starters at their positions in most fantasy leagues.
