Titans | Tennessee pleased with Week 6 backfield split

Tue, 17 Oct 2017 19:21:36 -0700

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularkey told reporters he liked the distribution of work in the backfield during the team's Week 6 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Derrick Henry rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, while Murray gained 40 yards on 12 carries. Mularkey also said Henry is beginning to establish himself as a big key in the fourth quarter of games. "That's probably been the case of late, when we go into a four-minute. Henry's probably a little fresher from not taking a lot of snaps. … But I really like how it has played out with percentages and how these guys (get along). I mean, the first guy down to congratulate (Derrick) on his (72-yard) touchdown was DeMarco Murray," Mularkey said.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the disparity in Week 6, Murray is still the lead back in this offense. It's also worth noting Henry was having a mediocre day (59 yards on his first 18 carries) before his dash to the end zone. With that said, Murray refuses to take a game or two off to let his hamstring heal, so Henry may continue to see more work moving forward until that changes. Murray is a back-end RB2 at best at this point, while Henry is a high-upside flex option.

Titans | DeMarco Murray has tight hamstring

Tue, 17 Oct 2017 14:47:50 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) is dealing with hamstring tightness, but head coach Mike Mularkey believes Murray should be fine for Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Murray seems to be ceding more carries to backfield mate Derrick Henry which has naturally caused his production to teeter off some. He has maintained a decent role in the passing game, however, and continues to be a quality RB2 in all formats.

Titans | DeMarco Murray has solid MNF outing

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 21:01:18 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray churned out 40 yards on 12 carries and had a rushing touchdown in the team's Week 6 game Monday, Oct. 16, against the Indianapolis Colts. He also hauled in four receptions for 47 yards.

Fantasy Tip: It was a nice showing from Murray for his owners, but his usage is still a concern, as teammate Derrick Henry actually had seven more carries and more than triple the rushing yards as well. However, the former rushing champion is just too talented to keep on the bench, and he still generally gets enough work to warrant being started regularly in just about all leagues.

Titans | DeMarco Murray runs for 58 yards

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 18:20:38 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray finished with 14 carries for 58 yards and four catches for 11 yards in a 16-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Murray has now been held below 60 rushing yards in four of the five games this season, and he has scored just once. The good news is that he still saw a majority of the carries, and he should be in the RB2 conversation against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6.

Titans | DeMarco Murray held in check in Week 4

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 14:28:57 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray ran seven times for 31 yards Sunday, Oct. 1, in a 57-14 loss to the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Two things stand out here. First, it's never good when you have less rushing yards than your quarterback. Second, with QB Marcus Mariota hampered by a hamstring injury, he may need to miss time. If that's the case Murray could be bottled up.

Titans | Hamstring holds up for DeMarco Murray

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 19:03:54 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray finished with 14 carries for 115 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown run, in a 33-27 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Murray was questionable coming into the game with a hamstring injury, but he ended up having his best performance of the year. Derrick Henry also saw 13 carries, but if Murray doesn't have any setbacks this week, the carries could swing more in his favor moving forward. Consider him a RB2 against the Houston Texans in Week 4.

Titans | DeMarco Murray to play

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 11:46:05 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) is officially active for the team's Week 3 game.

Fantasy Tip: Murray probably will share snaps with Derrick Henry during the game and could see limited carries because of the injuries. Murray will be a risky option for owners because of the injury and the matchup.

Titans | DeMarco Murray should suit up

Sat, 23 Sep 2017 22:14:47 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) is "more than likely" to play against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, a source said Saturday, Sept. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Murray suits up, there is a good chance he will see limited snaps, and the matchup with Seattle is far from ideal. If you have to start one of Tennessee's backs, Derrick Henry is the better play.

Titans | DeMarco Murray listed as questionable

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 14:47:14 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) practiced on a limited basis Friday, Sept. 22, and he is listed as questionable for Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Murray was facing a tough matchup if he were at 100 percent, but it's especially difficult if he is a little banged up. Look for Derrick Henry to shoulder some of the lost against the Seahawks, and perhaps start if Murray is out or limited. The fantasy back of choice in Nashville this weekend appears to be Henry.

Titans | Derrick Henry to be busy Week 3

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 12:38:44 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry is expected to get a "significant workload" in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks, regardless of whether DeMarco Murray plays or not, according to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe. Murray returned to practice as a limited participant Friday, Sept. 22, running routes and catching passes during individual drills. While Murray showed some instances of acceleration as a runner and receiver during the practice, it was far from what he would be expected to do in game action, according to Wolfe.

Fantasy Tip: The Titans are handling this situation correctly, as there is no reason to push Murray through a hamstring injury, although having a talent like Henry on the roster makes it an easier decision. Henry is quite the luxury to fall back on when the reigning AFC rushing champion is not 100 percent and should be plugged into lineups as a RB2 despite the tough matchup.

Titans | DeMarco Murray practices Friday

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 10:05:37 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) was able to practice Friday, Sept. 22, after not participating the previous two days. He will be listed as questionable on the Week 3 injury report, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: For the most part, Murray has not looked himself this season after leading the AFC in rushing last year. Owners who have some depth at running back should consider sitting Murray until he is able to produce something of note. That is unlikely to come this week against the Seattle Seahawks. At least for this week, Derrick Henry figures to lead the backfield in touches and figures to be the superior player.

Titans | DeMarco Murray remains sidelined

Thu, 21 Sep 2017 15:15:55 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: The Titans may consider keeping Murray out for at least one game so he can rest his injured hamstring, so owners should look for an update later in the week. Derrick Henry would receive a majority of the carries if Murray is ruled out and could be a starter for fantasy owners even though he will be facing a solid Seattle Seahawks defense.

Titans | DeMarco Murray sits out

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 16:18:11 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Murray's status for Week 3 is uncertain at this point and could sit out since hamstring injuries can linger. Owners should know more about the situation later in the week. Murray could be limited if he does play this week and may not be the best option for owners. Derrick Henry would receive a majority of the work if Murray sits out and would be a decent No. 2 running back or flex option.

Titans | DeMarco Murray day-to-day

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 16:36:54 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) is considered day-to-day because of his hamstring injury, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: Murray probably will be limited at practice for most of the week, so owners will need to check on his status later in the week. He is a solid fantasy option when he is healthy, but owners may want to consider other starting options in case Murray is ruled out for Week 3.

Titans | DeMarco Murray still bothered by hamstring

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 06:22:39 -0700

Updating previous reports, Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) sat out of the second half in Week 2 due to tightness in his hamstring. It's the same injury that bothered him in the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Derrick Henry has been pushing Murray all along, and it may be time for Murray to sit and heal. If Murray sits, Henry will be an RB2 option against the Seattle Seahawks. If Murray goes, he's demoted to the flex area due to the injury risk, and Henry would be an RB3 as well.

Titans | DeMarco Murray held out late in win

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 17:30:58 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray ran nine times for just 25 yards in Week 2 on the road against the Jaguars and he added one catch for three yards on two targets.

Fantasy Tip: Murray spent most of the second half on the sidelines, apparently uninjured, serving as a spectator in the lopsided victory. Fantasy owners will be happy that Murray was uninjured, but it's unnerving seeing Derrick Henry running up and down the field with Murray looking on. We'll get a better idea of the tailback distribution in Week 3 against the Seahawks.

Titans | DeMarco Murray to see more carries?

Sat, 16 Sep 2017 18:26:29 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray's 12 carries in Week 1 were tied for his second fewest since joining the Titans, and head coach Mike Mularkey said he would have liked to see more runs. "I think we need to run it more if we can," Mularkey said.

Fantasy Tip: Tennessee wants to be a run-first offense, but Murray will have his work cut out for him against a solid Jacksonville defense in Week 2. He should still be in your starting lineup, but consider him a RB2 this week.

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 14:37:02 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray rushed for 44 yards on 12 carries against the Oakland Raiders in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Murray only received 12 carries during the game but should see more touches in the upcoming weeks. He will be facing a solid Jacksonville Jaguars defense in Week 2 but could still be a No. 2 fantasy back.

Titans | DeMarco Murray uncertain for Sunday

Fri, 25 Aug 2017 10:35:52 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) has been practicing with the team since Aug. 14, but his status for the team's third preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Aug. 27, is up in the air as head coach Mike Mularkey has yet to commit to playing him, according to ESPN.com's Cameron Wolfe.

Fantasy Tip: The Tennessean reported Thursday that Murray may get limited snaps, but the 29-year-old told the paper then "if the game was today, I'd be playing." Thus, owners can probably assume he'll be ready for a full workload in Week 1 versus the Oakland Raiders. Mularkey has stated multiple times this offseason Murray will remain his workhorse, so he is safe to draft as a RB1 at the end of the first round or the beginning of the second in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Wed, 23 Aug 2017 18:18:07 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) is expected to play in the preseason game against the Chicago Bears Sunday, Aug. 27, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: Murray probably will play the first half of the preseason game if he does not suffer a setback in the next few days. He should receive most of the work at running back this season for the Titans and should be at least a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.

Titans | DeMarco Murray will not play

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 11:06:47 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) will not play in the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers Saturday, Aug. 19, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is coming back from a hamstring injury, so the team is probably being cautious with him. He will receive a majority of the carries this season and can be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 running back in all fantasy leagues.

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 14, and did more than expected.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is on track to be a full participant in practice in the near future and should be fine for the start of the regular season. He will receive most of the carries this season and should be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 running back.

Titans | DeMarco Murray revving up workload

Sun, 13 Aug 2017 18:32:15 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) will return to practice this week and "do more than he did last week," head coach Mike Mularkey said Sunday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Derrick Henry is pushing for more playing time, but Murray is still top dog in Tennessee and a low-end RB1. That being said, spending a mid-round pick to add Henry as a handcuff would be wise.

Titans | DeMarco Murray due back Monday

Thu, 10 Aug 2017 09:21:15 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) is expected to return to practice Monday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: There is a lot of hype surrounding Derrick Henry this preseason, but Murray still performed at an RB1 level last season. You might be able to get him at a discount in your draft, and he's still a low-end RB1 find.

Titans | DeMarco Murray won't play this week

Tue, 08 Aug 2017 15:51:40 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) will not play in the Titans' first preseason game this week, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: Not a big surprise here. The Titans want Murray at his best when the regular season starts. The veteran running back will split time with up-and-coming Derrick Henry, but that didn't keep Murray from RB1 status last season. Assuming he's full go, Murray is worth a look as a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 in all formats.

Titans | DeMarco Murray on the sidelines

Fri, 04 Aug 2017 17:29:17 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) is not participating in practice Friday, Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: The Titans likely will take things slow with Murray and make sure he will be 100 percent before practicing again. Murray is coming off a very successful 2016 season and will receive most of the carries again this season. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.

Titans | DeMarco Murray day-to-day

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 10:43:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hamstring) is considered day-to-day after injuring his hamstring at training camp, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: Murray's injury isn't serious, but one can't help but question the effects of the wear and tear he's endured over the years. Assuming he's good to go for the regular season, Murray is a viable low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 with a value uptick in PPR formats. Even so, Derrick Henry remains one of the most coveted "handcuffs" heading into 2017.

Sat, 29 Jul 2017 21:45:18 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray said he prides himself on taking care of his body, and he is hoping for an even bigger role in the offense this year.

Fantasy Tip: Derrick Henry is waiting in the wings and Tennessee added weapons for Marcus Mariota in the draft, but Murray should still be the centerpiece of the offense for at least one more year and a RB1 in all formats.

Titans | DeMarco Murray to have cast removed

Sun, 11 Jun 2017 17:38:26 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (finger) is expected to have his cast removed Monday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Age isn't on Murray's side, but he should deliver at least one more year of RB1 production as the lead back in Tennessee's run-heavy offense. However, it is a good idea to handcuff him with Derrick Henry.

Titans | DeMarco Murray injury update

Fri, 09 Jun 2017 16:02:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (finger) said he recently had surgery to repair a lingering issue in with his right ring finger. Murray will miss the rest of offseason workouts but said he would be able to play if there were a game.

Fantasy Tip: Murray should continue to receive most of the carries this upcoming season and is coming off a solid 2016 where he posted 1,287 yards and nine touchdowns. He should be considered a solid No. 1 running back in fantasy leagues.

Titans | DeMarco Murray wearing a cast

Thu, 08 Jun 2017 11:04:53 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hand) was sporting a cast on his hand Thursday, June 8, after undergoing a procedure, but head coach Mike Mularkey expects Murray to be good to go by training camp.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound like anything serious, but pay attention to Murray's status as the offseason progresses and training camp starts. If he is indeed full go by then, he'll remain in the RB1 conversation. That being said, Derrick Henry is chomping at the bit for when Murray goes down or aggravates the hand injury. Handcuffing Henry with Murray is advisable.

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry has looked great in OTAs, according to head coach Mike Mularkey, and offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie said he will find a way to use both Henry and RB DeMarco Murray.

Fantasy Tip: After such a strong 2016 campaign, Murray looks like a safe bet to lead the backfield again this season. Draft him as a RB1, but make sure to grab Henry as a handcuff.

Titans | DeMarco Murray still 'the guy'

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 19:18:49 -0800

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry is an "important part of the offense", but DeMarco Murray will remain the starter and lead runner in 2017, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: Depth-chart proclamations in February mean very little since they usually only serve as a reminder of how things were when the season ended; Henry and Murray obviously haven't set foot on a field in over a month. Murray logged 346 touches in 2016 and is one of the league's more complete running backs, but he is entering his age-29 season and a prime regression candidate. Henry still may not earn enough of a role to be a regular fantasy starter as a sophomore, but he remains a strong buy in dynasty leagues.

Titans | No surgery for DeMarco Murray for now

Mon, 02 Jan 2017 10:24:13 -0800

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (foot) is hopeful rest will be enough for him to recover from his torn plantar plate, although he has yet to rule out surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Murray showed he still had plenty left in the tank in 2016 after he was miscast in Philadelphia in Chip Kelly's offense, but he does have a history of foot injuries and will turn 29 in February. Derrick Henry isn't going away either, all of which makes Murray a strong bust candidate in 2017, especially if it is determined he needs surgery down the road.

Titans | DeMarco Murray inches to title

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 16:05:27 -0800

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray entered Week 17 against the Houston Texans needing just two yards for the most rushing yards in the AFC. He posted 11 runs for just 21 yards, his worst performance of the season, but it was good enough.

Fantasy Tip: Murray lucked out by the fact the Pittsburgh Steelers rested Le'Veon Bell. Murray didn't finish on a high note, but he still wrapped up the rushing title. His role could continue to decrease into 2017 with the presence of Derrick Henry, who came on strong down the stretch.

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray rushed 21 times for 92 yards and a touchdown in the Week 14 game against the Denver Broncos. He was targeted twice in the pass game, but had no receptions.

Fantasy Tip: Murray looks rejuvenated in Nashville this season, and rookie Derrick Henry hasn't really carved into Murray's workload. He remains a bona fide RB1 in all fantasy formats.

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (foot) participated in practice Monday, Dec. 5.

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (toe) rushed 17 times for 43 yards in the Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears. He added five receptions for 41 yards on his five targets.

Fantasy Tip: Murray entered with a toe injury, and perhaps he was bothered by the issue. His rushing yardage total was his lowest since Week 1 against Minnesota. He remains a must-start fantasy option in Week 14, as the bye in Week 13 should help him rest his bumps and bruises.

Fantasy Tip: Murray saw his five-game touchdown streak snapped last week but was still able to rush for 70 yards. He probably will receive most of the work at running back and should be a No. 1 running back in fantasy leagues.

Titans | No practice for DeMarco Murray

Wed, 23 Nov 2016 14:22:41 -0800

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (foot) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Murray was hampered with his foot injury last week too, but he still turned in 79 total yards and a touchdown. The Chicago Bears have defended the run really well this year, but Murray is practically matchup proof this season and the Bears are missing one of their best run stoppers in Jerrell Freeman. Start Murray as an RB1 like you normally would.
