Sun, 16 Aug 2015 11:51:58 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (ankle) and TE Logan Paulsen (toe) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list Sunday, Aug. 16.
Fantasy Tip: Jordan Reed should start the season as the starting tight end if he is able to stay healthy. Reed will be a risky option in drafts because of his injury history but could be a solid No. 2 tight end in most leagues.
Thu, 13 Aug 2015 21:07:55 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (ankle) will need surgery to repair a fractured ankle and will miss the entire season, head coach Jay Gruden said Thursday, Aug. 13.
Fantasy Tip: With Paul out of the picture Jordan Reed should inherit a steady role in the offense. Reed is worth scooping up in the later rounds of drafts.
Thu, 13 Aug 2015 18:04:11 -0700
Updating a previous story, Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (ankle) suffered a dislocation Thursday, Aug. 13, according to a source. Paul will undergo an MRI to see if the ligaments are intact.
Fantasy Tip: Paul had been named the starting tight end by head coach Jay Gruden, but Jordan Reed will now have a chance to reclaim his old role, if he can stay healthy.
Thu, 13 Aug 2015 17:36:44 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (leg) was carted off the field and given an air cast Thursday, Aug. 13.
Fantasy Tip: The injury bug has hit the Redskins early this year, and they may be in trouble at the tight end position. They may change their minds on Chris Cooley, who they had originally ruled out as an option.
Tue, 11 Aug 2015 16:06:47 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (shoulder) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 11, and he plans to play in the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 13.
Fantasy Tip: Paul has been named the starting tight end by head coach Jay Gruden, due to his work as both a receiver and a blocker. Paul has had his fair share of injury issues in the past, but he'll hold potential as a late-round option if he can stay healthy.
Tue, 11 Aug 2015 13:10:15 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul's (shoulder) MRI on his injured shoulder was clear, according to head coach Jay Gruden.
Fantasy Tip: Right now Paul is considered the starter, but Jordan Reed should see his fair share of playing time if/when he's healthy. Washington could implement a committee approach unless Paul or Reed miss extended time.
Mon, 10 Aug 2015 16:00:08 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (shoulder) left practice early Monday, Aug. 10, because of a shoulder injury and did not talk to reporters after practice. The team said Paul is being evaluated.
Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see how long Paul may be sidelined. Paul is listed as the starting tight end on the depth chart and could be a No. 2 tight end in leagues if he is able to keep the job.
Mon, 10 Aug 2015 15:31:47 -0700
Washington Redskins WR Niles Paul added around 27 pounds this offseason in order to be a better blocker against some of the bigger defensive ends in the NFL. Paul also worked on Olympic-style weightlifting, which helps with lower-body explosiveness.
Fantasy Tip: Paul is currently listed as the starting tight end and may keep the job because of his ability to block and catch in the offensive scheme. Paul could be a No. 2 tight end in leagues this season if he is able to keep the job.
Mon, 10 Aug 2015 12:09:53 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul is considered the starting tight end at this point because he is more complete player than TE Jordan Reed, according to head coach Jay Gruden.
Fantasy Tip: Paul had a solid 2014 season with 507 receiving yards and one touchdown in 16 games. Jordan Reed has more fantasy value and probably would be more involved in the passing game, but he has struggled to stay healthy. Owners probably should pass over Paul in drafts this season, but he could be a waiver wire option during the year.
Fri, 07 Aug 2015 10:52:06 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed spent the offseason changing his eating habits in order to help him stay healthy in 2015. He missed seven games in his rookie season, five games last year and was out this spring after a knee issue that required surgery. Reed has cut out bread, fried foods and sweets from his diet and is only eating grilled or baked chicken. He is also making an effort to stretch more before workouts. Reed feels like he can finally play a full season in 2015. Catching passes hasn't been an issue for Reed, but blocking has been his weak suite, and the Redskins often use TEs Logan Paulsen and Niles Paul in their two-tight end sets, especially if it's a run play. Reed feels that he is stronger and has more burst after strengthening the left side of his body and leg, and he's also added eight pounds of muscle but is leaner.
Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Reed can stay healthy for a full season, but there's no doubt that he has the pass-catching ability to become a fantasy force. However, with Robert Griffin III an unknown now and with Paul and Paulsen to compete with, it's hard to see Reed being much more than a TE2 in 2015.
Sat, 11 Jul 2015 12:45:38 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul is prepared to step in and start if TE Jordan Reed struggles with injuries again this season. Paul practiced some with the first team this offseason and head coach Jay Gruden praised his development. Reed will start if and when he's healthy, but Reed has missed 12 games in his first two seasons in the league.
Fantasy Tip: Paul is a capable replacement for Reed, as he proved last season, but he's not at the same skill level as Reed. When healthy, Reed can put up top-five tight end numbers. He's a high-risk, high-reward pick, and fantasy owners should consider selecting Paul later in drafts if they draft Reed.
Fri, 06 Mar 2015 13:34:15 -0800
Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul agreed to a three-year deal worth up to $10 million, according to a source. Paul had 39 catches for 507 yards and a touchdown in 2014 while filling in for TE Jordan Reed, who missed five games.
Fri, 06 Mar 2015 09:20:12 -0800
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul re-signed Friday, March 6. Paul could earn up to a little under $10 million with the new contract.
Fantasy Tip: Paul will likely slot behind Jordan Reed on the depth chart heading into 2015, but he is still someone to keep an eye on heading into training camp. Paul has low-end TE1 potential, but he may not get that opportunity with Washington.
Tue, 03 Mar 2015 11:07:44 -0800
Washington Redskins impending free-agent TE Niles Paul figures to draw interest from the Atlanta Falcons once the free agency period begins. Paul is familiar with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's scheme and TE Levine Toilolo hasn't exactly proven himself to be the answer at the position.
Fantasy Tip: Paul performed swimmingly when Jordan Reed was injured last season and proved to have TE1 potential when he's given the opportunity to start. Nothing is set in stone yet, of course, so keep an eye on Paul and the Falcons once free agency commences.
Sun, 19 Oct 2014 10:04:52 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul caught a 50-yard pass in the first quarter of the team's Week 7 game.
Fantasy Tip: Paul is coming back from a concussion and still working his way back. He will still have a role in the offense but may be behind Jordan Reed on the depth chart.
Mon, 06 Oct 2014 16:08:56 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (hamstring) is inactive in Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks Monday, Oct. 6. TE Niles Paul (concussion) is active and will replace Reed.
Fantasy Tip: Both Reed and Paul were sketchy options for your daily lineups this weekend. Paul is unlikely to make much of an impact against the Seahawks, either.
Sat, 04 Oct 2014 06:39:08 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (concussion) is expected to play in Week 5 after being cleared for full practice participation Friday, Oct. 3.
Fantasy Tip: Paul likely will be the starting tight end if Jordan Reed is not able to play in Week 5. Paul will come with some risk this week, but could be a solid addition on FantasyScore at $5,500.
Fri, 03 Oct 2014 15:57:24 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 3.
Fantasy Tip: Paul appears to be on track to play in Week 5 and could receive another start if Jordan Reed is not able to play. Paul costs $5,500 on FantasyScore and should be considered as an injury risk since there is a chance he could suffer a setback.
Thu, 02 Oct 2014 12:12:52 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (concussion) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 2.
Fantasy Tip: Paul's status for Week 5 is still uncertain at this point, so owners will need to monitor his practice participation. If he plays, Paul will be facing a tough Seattle Seahawks defense and may not be worth his $5,500 price tag on FantasyScore.
Tue, 30 Sep 2014 10:06:23 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (concussion) did not practice Tuesday, Sept. 30, and remains in the league's concussion protocol. However, head coach Jay Gruden said Paul is "making very good progress."
Fantasy Tip: Paul remains very iffy for Week 5. Play it safe and avoid him at FantasyScore in Week 5 against a tough opponent, the Seattle Seahawks. If Jordan Reed (hamstring) plays, he'll cost you $3,700 (7.4% of cap).
Tue, 30 Sep 2014 09:26:12 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (concussion) is making very good progress as he recovers from a concussion suffered in the team's Week 4 game.
Fantasy Tip: While it is great that Paul is making progress, it would probably be safer to avoid Paul in FantasyScore this week if he gets back on the field, until he shows he is back to full strength.
Fri, 26 Sep 2014 12:25:10 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (concussion) is going through the concussion protocol after suffering a concussion in Week 4. There is no timetable for his return.
Fantasy Tip: Paul has some time to get ready for Week 5, but he may need to sit out a week or two, depending on the severity of the concussion. Owners will need to watch his practice participation next week but may want to avoid using him until he is 100 percent.
Thu, 25 Sep 2014 20:54:13 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (head) has a concussion, head coach Jay Gruden said Thursday, Sept. 25. Paul suffered the injury when he was hit hard in the second quarter of the team's Week 4 game and did no return. He caught three passes for 60 yards before departing.
Fantasy Tip: Paul will have to go through the league's concussion protocol before being cleared to return so make sure to monitor his status in the coming days if you plan on using him at FantasyScore in Week 5.
Thu, 25 Sep 2014 18:55:38 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul (undisclosed) was helped to the locker room by trainers after being hit hard in the second quarter of the team's Week 4 game Thursday, Sept. 25.
Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for more updates on the nature and severity of his injury. Paul has stepped up in the wake of the Jordan Reed injury to become a steady contributor in the Washington offense.
Sun, 14 Sep 2014 16:45:36 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul caught eight passes for 99 yards and a touchdown in the Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars with TE Jordan Reed (hamstring) sidelined. Paul has mostly been a special teams player in his four seasons with the team, and he has only 18 catches over that time. However, Paul's starting role could be temporary when Reed returns from his injury.
Fantasy Tip: Look to add Paul off the waiver wire this week if you're in need of a backup tight end or if you own Reed. Reed's availability for Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles is uncertain, so Paul could be in line for another big day at FantasyScore for a cheap salary.
Sat, 13 Sep 2014 08:27:01 -0700
Washington Redskins TEs Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen will rotate at tight end during the team's Week 2 game, according to offensive coordinator Sean McVay.
Fantasy Tip: Neither player has any immediate fantasy value that should excite you, but Paul is a cheap option worth considering at FantasyScore this week.
Wed, 10 Sep 2014 09:45:42 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (hamstring) is not expected to play in Week 2, according to head coach Jay Gruden. "He's a long shot, I would say," Gruden said.
Fantasy Tip: Reed is worth hanging on to in most leagues. Try to work around him to find a replacement, but don't look for one on Washington's roster. Niles Paul, even at a cheap $3,800 in FantasyScore, isn't worth it yet.
Tue, 09 Sep 2014 14:10:47 -0700
Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul is set to continue as the starting tight end with TE Jordan Reed (hamstring) likely to miss some time. Head coach Jay Gruden said Reed will require an MRI exam to see if he can play in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Paul led the team with 86 receiving yards on four catches in Week 1 against the Houston Texans, but he also fumbled. He had four catches for 51 yards last season.
Fantasy Tip: The tight end is in a spot to be much more productive in Washington's new offensive system. Paul and the 'Skins face a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that was exploited by the tight end position in Week 1, making Paul's salary in FantasyScore of $3,800 (7.6% of cap) tempting if you're looking to save money at the position.
