Broncos | Denver unlikely to pursue big-name QB

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 20:28:33 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford are unlikely to be pursued by the Denver Broncos after the team selected QB Paxton Lynch with the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, but Denver could still add a veteran quarterback at some point.

Fantasy Tip: Lynch is no lock to start as a rookie, and even if he does beat out Mark Sanchez for the starting gig, he would be a low-end QB2.

Broncos | Kaepernick trade unlikely by Sunday

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 13:15:58 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is not expected to be traded to the Denver Broncos by Sunday, May 1, as there have been no talks of late.

Fantasy Tip: There could still be a successful trade, but it just doesn't seem likely to happen this weekend. Kaepernick has QB1 potential with the 49ers or Broncos, but it's safer to take him as a backup fantasy quarterback.

Broncos | Colin Kaepernick to DEN still likely?

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 11:32:00 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is likely to be acquired by the Denver Broncos, in the opinion of ESPN analyst, and former NFL executive, Mark Dominik. Dominik said Wednesday, April 27, on ESPN's Russillo and Kanell, that when Kaepernick met with Broncos team president John Elway, the parameters of a deal and a contract were likely mapped out. Dominik said it didn't benefit the 49ers to let Kaepernick visit the Broncos if a deal wasn't going to happen.

Dominik opined that he thinks a trade could happen Friday, April 29, or Saturday, April 30, because the 49ers are likely set on drafting a quarterback in the first three rounds.

Fantasy Tip: The most upside Kaepernick could possess in fantasy, realistically speaking, would be in the Denver offense. If he lands there, he'll still be a QB2 in fantasy, but he could be an option to plug in your lineups on your starter's bye week.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick not throwing

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 09:29:49 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder, thumb, knee) is attending the team's voluntary minicamp this week but hasn't resume throwing.

Fantasy Tip: Kap should be healed in plenty of time for training camp this fall. Which team he's playing on by then is the bigger question, as the Niners haven't ruled out trading him during the draft, which begins tomorrow. The Denver Broncos are the most likely to trade for him, and it'd be the best news for his fantasy value, but he should only be considered a QB2 with upside for more in that scenario.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick trade may still happen

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 08:07:40 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick could still be traded this week, according to general manager Trent Baalke.

Fantasy Tip: The Denver Broncos would give Kaepernick the most fantasy upside, but he'll be a QB2 wherever he resides.

Broncos | DEN talks with Kaepernick at a standstill

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 11:24:27 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's trade discussions with the Denver Broncos are dormant, according to Broncos president John Elway.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick's fantasy value would be at its peak with the weapons in Denver giving him some upside. Either way, he's a fantasy backup.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick could still be traded

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 13:26:08 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick may still be traded this offseason, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Baalke said he would never say never in regards to a trade, but he does not want to package Kaepernick as part of a trade. Baalke added that the 49ers still want Kaepernick on the roster, but he has not completely ruled out trading the quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Trade talks could ramp up on or around draft day, but it looks like Kaepernick may be staying in the bay area. There is good reason to be excited about Kaepernick in new head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense, but Kaep should still not be considered a QB1 in the fantasy realm.

Broncos | Colin Kaepernick trade done?

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 05:28:00 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's trade to the Denver Broncos could be done, in the opinion of ESPN analyst Mark Dominik. The deal likely hinges on the 49ers drafting a quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick would have the best opportunity in Denver to recapture his fantasy success. The amount of options at his disposal there can't be matched by teams needing a quarterback. He'll be a QB2 in fantasy regardless, however.

Broncos | Josh McCown could land in Denver

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 10:16:03 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown could be an option for the Denver Broncos if the Broncos can't acquire San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick.

Fantasy Tip: McCown looked good early last season and would have a lot to work with in Denver. He's pretty limited from a fantasy perspective, though, and he'd be a backup regardless.

Broncos | Competition doesn't worry Mark Sanchez

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 12:58:23 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez isn't worried about the possible competition from San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick if Kaepernick is traded to the Broncos. Sanchez is focused on making the most of his opportunity and competing for the starting quarterback position. "I will be friendly and professional with whoever is there. But I want this bad. Really bad," Sanchez said. "I want what [Denver] experienced last year."

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos are still at an impasse with a Kaepernick trade, so Sanchez looks to be the favorite to start for now. If a trade falls through, Denver will likely draft a quarterback. They may even draft one if they trade for Kaepernick. The bottom line is that Mark Sanchez is not in starting fantasy quarterback territory.

Broncos | Terms of Kaepernick deal an issue

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 12:31:03 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and the Denver Broncos have financial issues and issues on the term of the deal in the way of a potential trade. The Broncos want to pay $14 million over two years and they want to retain the final two years of Kaepernick's deal beyond that.

Ideally for Denver, Kaepernick would take a pay cut on his guaranteed money and would still be bound to the Broncos. In the eyes of the 49ers, the Broncos are asking for too much, but a more reasoned restructure could rekindle negotiations.

Fantasy Tip: A successful trade between Denver and San Francisco is looking more unlikely as each day passes, but something could still get done closer to draft day if the Broncos and/or 49ers start feeling more desperate. Kaepernick has QB1 potential with his dual-threat ability, but it's safer to draft him as a QB2.

Broncos | Colin Kaepernick would cut pay in 2016

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 07:13:57 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is willing to take a pay cut in 2016 to facilitate a trade to the Denver Broncos, but he's not willing to slash his pay in 2017. The Broncos are offering Kaepernick a $7 million salary in 2016 and 2017, according to a source. His contract with the 49ers pays a base salary of $11.9 million for the 2016 season and $14.5 million in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick is a fantasy backup regardless, but the Broncos have weapons that could allot him some upside.

Broncos | Colin Kaepernick refused pay cut

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 12:19:13 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will not take a pay cut in order to be acquired by the Denver Broncos, nor will the 49ers pay off part of the deal to make a trade happen.

Fantasy Tip: A trade is looking more unlikely with Kaepernick returning to San Francisco and with this news. The Broncos will have to pay up if they're desperate enough to acquire Kaepernick, but they may start looking at other options. Even if Kaepernick stays with the 49ers under new offensive-minded head coach Chip Kelly, he's too risky to draft as a QB1.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick reports for workouts

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 10:14:30 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has reported for the start of the 49ers' offseason workout program Monday, April 4.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick has been linked to the Denver Broncos in trade talks but will work out with the 49ers for the time being. He probably will be the starting quarterback for either the 49ers or Broncos in 2016 and likely will be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

49ers | Workout bonus for Colin Kaepernick?

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 11:25:26 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has a $400,000 offseason workout bonus due Monday, April 4, for 90% attendance. He may not show up depending on the status of a possible trade with the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick may not think showing up to offseason activities will be worth the bonus if he's going to get paid and will be leaving the 49ers anyway. The Broncos and 49ers seem to be closing in on a trade if Kaep's contract can get worked out. As said before, though, Kaepernick should not be regarded as a QB1 whether he stays or goes.

Broncos | Denver wants Kaep relief from 49ers

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 08:26:31 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is owed $11.9 million in 2016, and the Denver Broncos want the 49ers to pay $4.9 million of his salary to facilitate a trade. The 49ers have been unwilling, according to a source. A high-level source says "it would take two seconds" for the teams to finalize the proposed deal. The compensation in the trade is a non-issue, per sources familiar with deal. It will be a mid-round pick and sources from both teams said that will not be any holdup and they can "finalize it with one phone call."

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick will be a backup in fantasy, but Denver would provide him the best situation for upside.

Broncos | Colin Kaepernick trade nearing?

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 16:02:53 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick may be on the verge of getting traded, as the Niners and Denver Broncos have agreed on the parameters of a trade, according to a source. The completion of the trade hinges on Kaepernick's willingness to accept something significantly less than the $11.9 million base salary he is due to make this season.

Fantasy Tip: Denver reportedly wants Kaepernick to take a $5 million paycut, so this may take some time and the Broncos may need to throw in some incentives in order to make it happen. Assuming the deal happens, Kaep makes for an interesting high-upside QB2 option with a pair of game-breaking receivers in an offense that typically thrives with a mobile strong-armed quarterback.

Broncos | Denver not trading high pick

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 12:21:27 -0700

San Francisco 49ers Colin Kaepernick would need to restructure his deal and he and the Denver Broncos would have to bridge the gap on an acquisition price in order for a trade to work out. Additionally, the Broncos are not interested in trading their second-round draft pick as part of a potential deal.

Fantasy Tip: The Kaepernick saga continues for Denver. Both sides seem to be getting closer on a trade, but there are still issues to resolve, obviously. Kaepernick has the talent to achieve QB1 numbers with his dual-threat ability if he stays healthy, but he should not be in the QB1 conversation this offseason.

Broncos | Colin Kaepernick trade not imminent

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 11:26:49 -0700

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers Colin Kaepernick and Denver Broncos general manager John Elway got to know each other better and talked about Kaepernick's contract when they met in Denver Thursday, March 31. A trade is still not imminent, however, as obstacles remain.

Fantasy Tip: Negotiations could escalate as the NFL Draft nears, but the Broncos and 49ers are taking their time. While San Francisco is open to trading Kaepernick, they are also willing to keep him and use him as their starter in new head coach Chip Kelly's potent offense. He'll probably start in either place, but, again, he shouldn't be starting on fantasy teams.

Broncos | Colin Kaepernick would need new deal

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 11:13:55 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick would need to agree to restructure his deal if a trade occurred with the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: As stated earlier, no matter where Kaepernick plays in 2016, he shouldn't be trusted as a starting fantasy quarterback.

49ers | John Elway met with Colin Kaepernick

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 10:07:20 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick met with Denver Broncos general manager John Elway at Elway's home in Denver Thursday, March 31, according to a source. Kaepernick and Elway have met twice since March 15, and Kaepernick has spent his offseason rehabilitating in Vail, Colo.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos aren't giving up on Kaepernick just yet as they are still somewhat desperate for at least one more quarterback. Negotiations between the Broncos and 49ers could heat up as the draft inches closer. Wherever Kaepernick plays, though, he shouldn't be trusted as a QB1.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick's salary guaranteed

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 13:14:37 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick was not released prior to the deadline Thursday, March 31, and Kaepernick's $11.9 million will now be fully guaranteed for 2016. Kaepernick could still be traded, however, especially as the NFL Draft nears.

Fantasy Tip: The 49ers and new head coach Chip Kelly believe Kaepernick can be a successful quarterback in the new offense, hence why Kaepernick was not released before April 1. Whether he stays in San Francisco or if he is traded, he won't be worth drafting as a starting fantasy quarterback.

Broncos | Colin Kaepernick has to slash pay for DEN

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 09:53:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick would have to reduce his base salary to around $7 million if the Denver Broncos were to land him, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: This would be the best landing spot for him if all the stars align. Kaep will be a fantasy backup in 2016 with something to prove.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick won't be released

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 08:21:31 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick won't be released before his April 1 deadline when his $11.9 million salary becomes guaranteed.

Fantasy Tip: Kaep will be a backup in fantasy wherever he plays in 2016.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick staying with team

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 16:27:36 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will remain with the 49ers. The team would fully guarantee his 2016 base salary now if he commits to being the team's starting quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick was available in a trade earlier in the offseason but likely will be the starting quarterback for the 49ers in 2016. Kaepernick has played well at times during his career but probably will be a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick to be paid even if cut?

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 18:08:25 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick could still receive his $11.9 million salary for 2016, even if he is cut before April 1. Kaepernick has had three offseason surgeries, and if a player is cut while injured, their salary becomes guaranteed. Kaepernick would have to pass a physical prior to April 1 for San Francisco to cut him and avoid paying his 2016 salary.

Fantasy Tip: San Francisco has said it plans to keep Kaepernick, and the fact that 49ers could be on the hook for his salary regardless makes it unlikely they will cut him. If he opens 2016 as San Francisco's starter, grab him as a backup quarterback and hope he blossoms in Chip Kelly's system.

Broncos | Denver still eyeing Colin Kaepernick?

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 18:17:28 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's is only being pursued by the Denver Broncos at this point.

Fantasy Tip: There is no guarantee that he will ever be traded, and if Kaepernick remains with the 49ers, he would be worth grabbing as a fantasy backup for his upside alone.

49ers | Blaine Gabbert in the mix

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 09:42:02 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert's size and skill set impressed head coach Chip Kelly, who said Gabbert would be in competition with QB Colin Kaepernick to start. "He's big," Kelly said. "I'd never really dealt with Blaine because he came into the league before I came into the league, but just how big and physical and impressive he is. He's a 6-4, 245-pound guy that can really run. I thought the last part of the season he played really well. It'll be intriguing to work with him, too."

Fantasy Tip: Gabbert has very little upside in fantasy and is only a depth QB in two-QB leagues.

Jets | NYJ not pursuing Colin Kaepernick

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 17:38:10 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is not receiving a lot of interest from the New York Jets at this point.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets still have a chance to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, which likely is a reason they are not looking to acquire Kaepernick. Fitzpatrick would be a solid No. 2 quarterback if he rejoins the Jets. Kaepernick probably would be a No. 2 quarterback if he stays with the 49ers and is the starter.

Browns | Colin Kaepernick not an option for CLE

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 17:37:04 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is no longer a trade target for the Cleveland Browns since the team signed QB Robert Griffin III.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick may stay with the 49ers despite being available this offseason and may not be the starter, which would severely hurt his fantasy value. Griffin likely will have to compete with a draft pick for the Browns' starting quarterback job and probably would be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he wins the job.

Broncos | Denver not rushing QB decision

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 10:03:45 -0700

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said the Broncos are not in a rush to add another quarterback this offseason. Kubiak said QB Mark Sanchez will learn the team's offense quickly because of his familiarity with the verbiage during his days in college, and Sanchez has been at the team facility offseason since he signed. Free-agent QBs Robert Griffin III (Redskins) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) are options, as well as trading for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer or Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon.

Fantasy Tip: Denver will likely bring in another QB either through the draft, in free agency or via trade to compete with Sanchez for the starting role. At this point, whoever is under center in Week 1 for the Broncos will surely be more of a fantasy backup.

49ers | Kaepernick trade not close to being done

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 14:48:58 -0700

A trade for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is not close to getting done at this point, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Baalke said he has had discussions with several teams regarding Kaepernick, but they have not gone further than that.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick may be staying in San Francisco after all. Who knows what will happen between now and the NFL Draft, though. If Kaepernick does stay with the 49ers and stays healthy, he could be a borderline QB1, but he should still be drafted as a QB2.

Browns | Colin Kaepernick unlikely to CLE

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 06:34:07 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick isn't involved in active trade talks with the Cleveland Browns as of Monday, March 21. Executive vice president Sashi Brown said the Browns were contacted to gauge their interest, but that interest was over-reported. Brown said the team never negotiated a draft pick or a new contract for Kaepernick.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like the Browns are pursuing Robert Griffin III now. Kaep remains a QB2 possibility in fantasy.

49ers | SF won't release Colin Kaepernick

Thu, 17 Mar 2016 12:59:05 -0700

The San Francisco 49ers don't have any plans to release QB Colin Kaepernick before April 1 when his $11.9 million salary becomes fully guaranteed, as trade talks have gone cold over the past week. "There's a good chance he's still on the team the way things look now," a source said. The Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns and New York Jets haven't shown much urgency of late to acquire Kaepernick.

Fantasy Tip: The Niners are asking for a second-rounder in return for Kap, and the three teams interested in him think the price is too hefty. This is a fluid situation, so stay tuned. Wherever Kaepernick lands, he's a fantasy backup with upside for more, especially if new SF head coach Chip Kelly can coach him up in his up-tempo offense.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick plans to report

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 20:57:01 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick plans to show up to the team's offseason program April 4 rather than hold out for a trade, a league source said Wednesday, March 16. "If he's here on April 4, we're going to coach the heck out of him and he's going to work his ass off," head coach Chip Kelly said. Trade talks with the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos have stalled. He is expected to take a physical with the team's medical staff Friday, March 18.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick would challenge Blaine Gabbert for the starting quarterback job if he remains in San Francisco. Even if he is able to secure the job, he would be nothing more than a low-end QB2 or bye-week replacement.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick talks settle down

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 11:28:48 -0700

The San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick sweepstakes remain at an impasse, according to NFL Network's Mike Silver. The Denver Broncos are holding firm on their offer of a fourth-round pick, while the Cleveland Browns aren't moving and the 49ers are staying put.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos seem to have the biggest advantage at this point, although they could be headed for a stalemate. Kaepernick doesn't really want to play for the Browns anymore, and he has already expressed that he wants out of San Francisco. He could very well stay with the 49ers, even if it's backing up Blaine Gabbert. Denver would probably give him the better opportunity from a fantasy football perspective, too, although he still wouldn't be in starting fantasy quarterback territory in Denver. This situation will need to be monitored over the coming days and possibly weeks.

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 08:45:14 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is still of interest of the Denver Broncos, who are holding firm at their offer of a fourth-round pick.

Browns | Colin Kaepernick hesitant to join Browns

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 10:50:42 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is not willing to take as big a pay cut as the Cleveland Browns have asked him to take. This is partly due to the losses the Browns have suffered in free agency, according to The Sacramento Bee. Kaepernick is also not attracted to the idea of taking a lower-money contract on a bad team that could draft a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick anyway. Additionally, if the Denver Broncos offered Kaepernick the same contract the Browns have offered him, he would likely sign without hesitation. The 49ers and Broncos are still not on the same terms as far as a trade offer, however. Denver is believed to have offered their third-round pick (94th overall), but San Francisco is probably trying to obtain Denver's second-round pick (63rd overall).

Fantasy Tip: Cleveland's future certainly doesn't look promising, so one can't blame Kaepernick or any player, really, if they are reluctant to join the Browns. Kaepernick's fantasy value would certainly be higher on the Broncos. It would probably even be higher in San Francisco than in Cleveland at this point. Wherever he plays, Kaepernick still shouldn't be viewed as a starting fantasy quarterback.

Browns | CLE open to adding Colin Kaepernick

Sat, 12 Mar 2016 08:52:25 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick remains a trade target for the Cleveland Browns, but the team would want Kaepernick to restructure his contract if they acquired him, according to sources. The team is willing to trade a third-round pick if they are able to restructure the contract. Kaepernick is scheduled to make an average of $19 million in each of the next five seasons, but the team wants to cut down the average by at least half.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns are one of a few teams interested in Kaepernick, but it has been reported that Kaepernick prefers going to the Browns. Owners will have to keep an eye out on the situation to see where Kaepernick plays in 2016. He likely would be the starting quarterback if he joins the Browns but would only be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Broncos | Colin Kaepernick still an option for Denver

Fri, 11 Mar 2016 10:55:35 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick still remains a trade option for the Denver Broncos after they acquired QB Mark Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles Friday, March 11.

Fantasy Tip: It might be more of a long shot now for Denver, but the possibility remains. Sanchez is likely to be a backup or at best compete for a starting job in 2016. Neither Sanchez nor Kaepernick should be considered anything more than fantasy backups, though.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick could be retained by the team to compete with QB Blaine Gabbert as the starter if a trade can't be worked out.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick wants to play with the Cleveland Browns and respects head coach Hue Jackson. The two sides are talking.

Fantasy Tip: Kaepernick is a QB2 in fantasy as he attempts to revitalize his once-budding career.

49ers | Nothing doing on Colin Kaepernick

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 16:55:03 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and trade talks with the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and Denver Broncos appear to be in a holding pattern now.

Fantasy Tip: All three teams don't appear to be any rush to find their QB for 2016, so no Kaepernick trade is imminent. The Broncos appear to be the favorites, which would be the best-case scenario for Kap's fantasy value. Still, don't consider him much more than a midrange fantasy backup with some upside.

Broncos | Elway likes Colin Kaepernick

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 16:13:04 -0800

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway said he liked San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick after watching him for two days in joint practices in training camp last fall. "I've always liked Colin," Elway said. "He's very athletic and he can make a lot of big plays. He's doing more within the pocket, which I think if he continues to do that, it'll help him. But he's a great athlete, and he's got that big-play ability to avoid things and make things happen."

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos are the favorite to trade for Kap this offseason now that Brock Osweiler left for the Houston Texans. Denver apparently liked Kaepernick a lot in the 2011 draft, too. If Denver lands him in a trade, Kap will immediately become Denver's next starter, but he's more of a midrange fantasy backup to fantasy owners.

Broncos | Denver has talked to Ryan Fitzpatrick

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 15:41:22 -0800

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has been contacted by the Denver Broncos. The Broncos could pursue Fitzpatrick as a backup plan if they are unable to trade for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos are in dire straits at quarterback right now, and Kaepernick and Fitzpatrick are two of the three best quarterbacks available. It's too early to gauge exactly what Fitzpatrick's fantasy value will be, but he would still have two elite wide receivers to throw to in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders if he joined Denver. Either way, view him as a borderline QB1, but more as a high-end QB2.

49ers | Kaepernick could require second-rounder

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 14:49:42 -0800

The San Francisco 49ers likely would want a second-round pick in exchange for QB Colin Kaepernick, according to NFL Media columnist Mike Silver. The Denver Broncos might be willing to give up a third-rounder.

"I believe that Colin Kaepernick is the target for the Denver Broncos," Silver said. "I believe the 49ers are amendable to trading him. Whether it is a (third-round pick) a (second-round pick) if that's what it takes. I think right now they're doing a dance. But I expect the Denver Broncos to go out and get Colin Kaepernick as their top option." Silver also said Kaepernick is likely willing to restructure his deal to the Broncos' liking to facilitate a trade.

Fantasy Tip: John Elway and the Broncos came close to drafting Kap back in 2011, and Elway has strong ties with Niners GM Trent Baalke, so a deal could come soon. Kaepernick's fantasy value would be highest in Denver, but he's still no more than a midrange fantasy backup after a rough 2015 season.

Broncos | Denver the favorite for Kaepernick?

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 12:46:47 -0800

The Denver Broncos are believed to be the front-runners to trade for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick.

Fantasy Tip: The Cleveland Browns and New York Jets are also interested, and the Broncos appear to be taking their time in their search, so this could still go any direction. Kaepernick won't be very coveted by fantasy owners no matter where he lands, though, after a disappointing 2015 campaign. He's a midrange fantasy backup with upside for a little more.

Jets | NY working on trade for Colin Kaepernick

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 10:52:02 -0800

The New York Jets have their eye on San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, and they are involved in trade talks for him, according to a source. The Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns are also engaged in talks for Kaepernick. Draft-pick compensation would be a sticking point for New York, and giving up a second-rounder might be too much.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets could be doing this to gain leverage over Ryan Fitzpatrick, who they've wanted to re-sign all along. But if Fitz bolts, Kap would become their No. 1 target most likely. Kaepernick's fantasy value would fit best with Denver probably, but no matter what he's more of a backup fantasy QB for 2016.

49ers | Colin Kaepernick has deadline looming

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 10:16:34 -0800

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's $11.9 million salary becomes guaranteed April 1, which would seem to be a deadline for the team to decide to keep him or trade him. He also has $2 million in roster bonuses and a $400,000 workout bonus. The team would have to absorb $7.4 million in dead money if he's traded.

Fantasy Tip: The Denver Broncos, New York Jets and Cleveland Browns are believed to be interested in Kaep. His fantasy value would likely peak in Denver, but he's a QB2 in fantasy.

Browns | Cleveland in on Colin Kaepernick

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 09:46:20 -0800

The Cleveland Browns are interested in trading for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick.

Fantasy Tip: It seems like only a matter of time before the Niners trade Kap away. Cleveland would probably be the absolute worst spot for Kaepernick to try and make a comeback after a disappointing 2015 season. Consider him a weak fantasy backup if he goes to the Browns.
