49ers | Kendall Hunter may be No. 2 RB for now

Wed, 25 Jun 2014 18:37:59 -0700

The San Francisco 49ers may consider RB Kendall Hunter as their No. 2 running back at this point, because they know he does well in pass protection and blitz pickup. The team has not seen RB Carlos Hyde and RB Marcus Lattimore in pads at this point and is not sure about their pass protection skills.

49ers | LaMichael James inactive

Sun, 08 Sep 2013 08:41:38 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James (knee) will be inactive for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. He's dealing with a sprained medial collateral ligament and is expected to miss up to three weeks. RB Frank Gore will start with RB Kendall Hunter behind him. RB Anthony Dixon could see a bump in playing time.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't a surprise. James should probably be left to the waiver wire for now in more shallow leagues.

49ers | LaMichael James does not need surgery

Sun, 01 Sep 2013 17:22:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James (knee) will not need surgery to repair a partially torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee. However, he will be unavailable to return punts or kickoffs dor at least the first three or four regular season games. Last season, he was not active when both RBs Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter were active, so James might not even dress for the first month or so.

49ers | Frank Gore finally accepts lesser role

Sun, 21 Jul 2013 17:03:52 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore has his snaps regulated last season, as he finally accepted he is more valuable to the team in the long term if he gives up a few carries to his backups. He is still expected to be capable of at least 1,200 rushing yards, but RBs LaMichael James and Kendall Hunter are expected to playing larger roles in the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Gore remains a low-end RB1 for fantasy purposes, but his days as an early first-round draft pick are well over.
