New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (undisclosed) went to the locker room with trainers in the third quarter Thursday, Oct. 16.
Mon, 29 Sep 2014 05:50:05 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory played 37 snaps (58% of the offense) in Week 4. RBs Chris Johnson and Bilal Powell only played on 18 and 11 snaps, respectively.
Fantasy Tip: Ivory is the clear leader right now and should be owned in all formats. Johnson could still become a factor, more so in PPR leagues, but it's tough to start him right now.
Mon, 15 Sep 2014 08:47:55 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson played 27 snaps in Week 2, while RB Chris Ivory played 27 and RB Bilal Powell played 17 snaps Sunday, Sept. 14.
Fantasy Tip: Ivory's play could have elevated himself in the committee. He has 23 rushes for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson has 25 carries for 89 yards and no scores. Powell has just five rushing attempts. Ivory has been a cheap flex option on FantasyScore thus far, but his stock is rising for the Week 3 tilt against the Chicago Bears. Johnson is a weaker flex option at this point.
Fri, 08 Aug 2014 09:28:51 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson looked rusty in his debut with the team against the Indianapolis Colts Thursday, Aug. 7. RB Chris Ivory (rib) was injured in the game and RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) is still nursing an injury, so Johnson was the team's lone healthy back for this game. Johnson dropped a pass on a third down and lacked burst while running, rushing for just two yards and a touchdown on four carries.
Fantasy Tip: Cimini said there's no reason to be alarmed, and he's right. It's just the first preseason game. Not much was gleaned from this game with Ivory and Powell sitting out. Johnson is the most experienced of the three, and Ivory has had problems staying healthy, so CJ2K will likely be the most valuable of this three-headed monster on your draft day.
Thu, 07 Aug 2014 14:55:54 -0700
New York Jets SS Calvin Pryor (concussion), RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) and WR Greg Salas (undisclosed) will not play in the team's preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 7.
Wed, 06 Aug 2014 11:50:17 -0700
New York Jets RBs Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will all receive playing time this season, and the team likely will use a running back-by-committee approach, according to head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said there is a chance the team uses the hot hand during games.
Fantasy Tip: Committees are not great news for fantasy owners, but the team wants to use all three in their running game. Johnson probably will have the most value entering the season because of his experience. Johnson's spot in starting lineups will depend on the matchup each week. Ivory and Powell likely will be later-round options as well as handcuffs for Johnson.
Tue, 05 Aug 2014 07:33:23 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) is doing positional drills in practice Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Mon, 04 Aug 2014 12:59:16 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (hamstring), WR Shaquelle Evans (shoulder), CB Johnny Patrick (hamstring) and OT Markus Zusevics (knee) and CB Ellis Lankster (back) did not practice Monday, Aug. 4.
Sat, 02 Aug 2014 16:22:53 -0700

Wed, 30 Jul 2014 10:19:57 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (hamstring), WR David Nelson (groin) and SS Calvin Pryor (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, July 30.
Tue, 29 Jul 2014 10:14:50 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) did not finish practice Tuesday, July 29.
Wed, 02 Jul 2014 10:04:37 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson said Tuesday, July 1, that he's confident he'll be the team's lead back this year and won't be too involved in a timeshare with RBs Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell. "Once the season starts and once we're playing and I'm doing my thing, I'm pretty sure if I'm making plays they're going to want to keep handing the ball off to me," Johnson said. "If they want me to continue making plays, I'm pretty sure I can't do that if I'm on the sideline." Johnson said he's "pretty much cleared" by Dr. James Andrews after coming off offseason knee surgery, and he said he's close to 100 percent health.
Fantasy Tip: After Johnson's disappointing 2013 season, it's hard to envision him ever returning to his glory days running the football. The Jets will surely look to keep him fresh, but there is room for improvement if he can prove he deserves lead-back touches; the Jets said they'll go with a hot hand if one stands out. For now, consider Johnson a risky RB3 with upside for a bit more.
Thu, 26 Jun 2014 05:44:11 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson's touches will be limited to keep him fresh, according to Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn. "He's got some miles on him," Lynn said. "So we're going to have to be strategic in how we use him, and when we use him, to keep him fresh so that he can be the explosive guy that I know that he can be." Johnson will be in a committee with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell.
Fantasy Tip: That's quite a different stance than the one reported a couple weeks ago that they were going to give him the ball as much as possible. Johnson is a decent receiver and has more value in PPR leagues as a RB2. Ivory and Powell are depth fantasy backs that could figure in more in good matchups.
Wed, 18 Jun 2014 14:08:25 -0700
New York Jets RBs Bilal Powell and Alex Green received the majority of repetitions during the team's second practice of their three-day minicamp Wednesday, June 18.
Fantasy Tip: Powell, Green and Daryl Richardson are fighting for touches behind Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory, who are both dealing with injuries. Powell has late-round appeal, while Green and Richardson are best left to the waiver wire, unless either leapfrog Powell on the depth chart.
Mon, 16 Jun 2014 11:38:32 -0700
If New York Jets RB Chris Johnson can prove he's still an explosive, dynamic and productive running back, he could be in line for most of the workload, according to a source. The New York Jets' distribution of backfield touches hasn't been panned out yet. Running backs coach Anthony Lynn said Johnson is "definitely going to get the ball" and has plenty left in the tank.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been underrated ever since he landed in New York. Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will take away some playing time, but Johnson is the Jets running back to own this season. As long as he stays healthy, which he has his whole career, he's a safe RB3 option, with RB2 potential if he does end up as the team's main running back.
Wed, 16 Apr 2014 12:48:23 -0700
The New York Jets will use RBs Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory as a tandem this upcoming season and have them split carries. RB Bilal Powell will be the team's No. 3 running back.
Wed, 16 Apr 2014 12:29:09 -0700
The New York Jets signed RB Chris Johnson (Titans) to a two-year deal Wednesday, April 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson has lost a lot in recent seasons, and he's, at best, a weak RB3 for your fantasy squad. Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will spell Johnson frequently, and Ivory figures to be the short-yardage, goal-line back. With Marty Mornhinweg as the offensive coordinator, Johnson could be used frequently out of the backfield as a pass catcher, making him more valuable in point-per-reception leagues.
Wed, 27 Nov 2013 14:34:59 -0800
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (ankle) was seen on the side working with trainers in practice Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Fantasy Tip: Ivory's injury looks serious enough to keep him out of action this weekend against the Miami Dolphins, so get him out of your lineups. Bilal Powell would become the main runner again and is an RB2 this weekend.
Sun, 20 Oct 2013 21:32:48 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory was leaned upon heavily in the Week 7 overtime victory against the New England Patriots, posting a career-high 34 carries for 104 yards. RB Bilal Powell, who had been the primary ball carrier, managed just three touches. "Bilal only carried three times but Ivory had the hot hand and we fed him," head coach Rex Ryan said Sunday, Oct. 20. "We rode Ivory a little more than normal, but it was a good game."
Fantasy Tip: If Ivory can duplicate this type of production, he would be a solid RB2 or flex play in all fantasy formats. However, don't discount Powell just yet, as he showed earlier this season while Ivory was sidelined, that he could carry the mail and do it well. Keep him reserved, but don't drop him just yet.
Fri, 18 Oct 2013 16:43:02 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 18, and is listed as probable for Week 7.
Thu, 17 Oct 2013 16:05:13 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) practiced in full Thursday, Oct. 17.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 14:03:50 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (neck) practiced in full Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Fantasy Tip: Powell insisted he was fine when he left the Week 6 game temporarily, and it looks like he will be. Continue to view Powell as a No. 3 fantasy running back.
Tue, 15 Oct 2013 13:36:21 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory is expected to have a bigger role in the backfield with RB Mike Goodson (knee) now out for the season. Ivory had only four carries in Week 6 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he has 115 yards on 34 carries this season. "It hasn't been tough yet," Ivory said. "I don't feel like I'm sitting back waiting on my time. I just feel like we could run the ball more. We're not doing that, but I think it will get better."
Fantasy Tip: Ivory should now be a waiver wire target in deeper leagues for those either hoping to handcuff Bilal Powell or build running back depth.
Sun, 13 Oct 2013 17:33:13 -0700
Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (shoulder) insisted Sunday, Oct. 13, that he is not injured after leaving the Week 6 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers for what was reported as a shoulder injury. "I just took a little hit, came out and took a breather," Powell said. "Came in and everything is good."
Sun, 13 Oct 2013 13:20:21 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (shoulder), WR Clyde Gates (shoulder) and RB Mike Goodson (knee) exited the Week 6 game with injuries.
Mon, 07 Oct 2013 20:54:21 -0700
New York Jets RB Mike Goodson (hamstring) had three carries for 32 yards in the Week 5 game against the Atlanta Falcons in his season debut, and he added one reception for nine yards. RB Chris Ivory carried four times for 27 yards. Both had just four touches to 13 touches for RB Bilal Powell.
Fantasy Tip: Goodson and Ivory need to do a lot more if they are going to unseat Powell as the top RB option on the team. For now, Powell is your best bet for fantasy value among the trio, but Goodson and Ivory could eat into the touches if they start running well and head coach Rex Ryan elects to go with the hot-hand approach. For now, that hot hand belongs to Powell.
Thu, 03 Oct 2013 14:45:02 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 3.
Fantasy Tip: Ivory took some repetitions in the portion of practice open to the media, however. It's a good sign. But with Bilal Powell remaining the lead back and Mike Goodson back in the picture, it's hard to see Ivory making a huge fantasy impact for at least another week or two.
Mon, 30 Sep 2013 12:42:38 -0700
New York Jets RB Mike Goodson is eligible to rejoin the team for practice Monday, Sept. 30, after serving his four-game suspension for substance abuse.
Fantasy Tip: Don't expect Goodson to be involved much in his first week back, even with Chris Ivory (hamstring) expected to miss another week. Bilal Powell has earned the lion's share of the touches, and Alex Green is in the picture for backup touches.
Sat, 28 Sep 2013 06:06:17 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell was praised by offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, saying he is a natural football player. "Really, he is just a real natural football player," Mornhinweg said. "Things come easily to him. You teach him something and then he gets it very quickly."
Fri, 27 Sep 2013 12:37:48 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 27, and has been ruled out for Week 4.
Fantasy Tip: Bilal Powell will get most of the carries while Ivory is out of the lineup. He should be considered a No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues for Week 4.
Thu, 26 Sep 2013 17:43:59 -0700
The New York Jets are expected to use RB Bilal Powell as the featured back the next two weeks while they bring RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) and suspended RB Mike Goodson are brought back slowly. Running back coach Anthony Lynn said Powell can be used in most situations. "He's always had a skill set that can cover - between the tackles, outside the tackles, receiving skills, blocking skills. He has a complete skill set, and that allows him to stay on the field. Even if he's not the feature back he would be on the field a lot," Lynn said. Powell said he entered the season more prepared which has allowed him to play faster and be more comfortable.
Mon, 23 Sep 2013 15:01:40 -0700
Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Chris Ivory's (hamstring) hamstring injury is to the same hamstring he injured during training camp but at a different spot. The team is expecting Ivory to miss some time because he was slow to recover from his first hamstring injury.
Fantasy Tip: Bilal Powell likely will get most of the carries if Ivory has to miss games. Powell is probably owned in all fantasy leagues and should at least be considered for the starting lineup each week.
Mon, 23 Sep 2013 14:25:15 -0700
New York Jets RB Alex Green worked as the No. 2 running back behind RB Bilal Powell in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills when RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) injured his hamstring in the first quarter. Green had 14 yards on five carries.
Mon, 23 Sep 2013 06:10:53 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed 27 times for 149 yards Week 3.
Fantasy Tip: The time is now for Powell. Chris Ivory (hamstring) has frustrated the heck out of fantasy owners with recurring injuries and ineffectiveness. Powell could be a decent sell-high chip on your trade market.
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 18:00:32 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (illness, shoulder) was a full participant in practice Friday, Sept. 20, and he is considered probable for the Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills.

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (illness, shoulder) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 19.
Thu, 19 Sep 2013 09:04:25 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (illness, shoulder) returned to practice Thursday, Sept. 19.
Wed, 18 Sep 2013 13:03:16 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (illness, shoulder) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Wed, 11 Sep 2013 15:10:05 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (shoulder) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 11, and is probable for Week 2.
Fantasy Tip: Powell, who received more carries than Chris Ivory in the opener, could see a similar workload in Week 2. He makes for a decent flex play in deeper leagues.
Wed, 11 Sep 2013 15:08:19 -0700
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (thumb) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 11, and is probable for Week 2.
Fantasy Tip: Ivory will be eased back into action after missing the preseason. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Bilal Powell see most of the carries again, but Ivory remains the better long-term option to own in the Jets' backfield.
Tue, 10 Sep 2013 14:15:55 -0700
New York Jets LB Nick Bellore (oblique), T Willie Colon (knee), CB Antonio Cromartie (hip), WR Clyde Gates (knee), DT Damon Harrison (knee), WR Stephen Hill (knee), T Ben Ijalana (knee), RB Chris Ivory (thumb), LB Garrett McIntyre (ribs), CB Dee Milliner (hip), RB Bilal Powell (shoulder) all fully practiced Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Mon, 09 Sep 2013 15:21:55 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (shoulder), OG Willie Colon (knee), OT Ben Ijalana (knee), DT Damon Harrison (knee), LB Nick Bellore (oblique), LB Garrett McIntyre (ribs) and CB Antonio Cromartie (hip) fully participated in practice Monday, Sept. 9.
Mon, 09 Sep 2013 06:31:47 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell played 47 snaps, and RB Chris Ivory played 24 in Week 1.
Fri, 06 Sep 2013 05:13:34 -0700
New York Jets RBs Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory will split carries in Week 1. Powell is listed as the starter, and the team confirmed Ivory would see the short-yardage and goal line work.
Fantasy Tip: Both backs are low-end RB3s until the situation is more defined. The team's offense is expected to be pretty brutal.
Wed, 04 Sep 2013 12:39:35 -0700
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said RB Bilal Powell earned the Week 1 start with his work during the preseason. Ryan said RB Chris Ivory will still receive substantial work during the game.
Tue, 03 Sep 2013 17:59:20 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell is listed at the top of the team's depth chart, ahead of RB Chris Ivory and newly acquired RB Alex Green. RB Mike Goodson will also join the mix after he serves his four-game suspension.
Fantasy Tip: Powell's grasp on the job is still tenuous at best, and he should be considered nothing more than an RB3 or flex play in Week 1.
Mon, 19 Aug 2013 14:48:26 -0700
New York Jets general manager Mike Idzik said that he expects RP Mike Goodson to show up during the preseason.
Fantasy Tip: Goodson has missed way too much of the preseason and training camp to be expected to contribute regularly at the start of the regular season. That could change eventually, but as of now, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell are the main guys out of the backfield. Injuries and poor performance could push Goodson up the depth chart eventually, but for now, ignore him in fantasy drafts.
Tue, 13 Aug 2013 15:41:24 -0700
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan floated the idea that the team would use some Pistol formations this year. "If your quarterback has the mobility to do some of that stuff, then I don't understand why you wouldn't do it," Ryan said. "There are other ways of getting to it. If you have a guy like a Jeremy Kerley or a Bilal Powell, who can throw the ball, that can be accomplished that way as well."
Sun, 11 Aug 2013 08:13:30 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell could be a key contributor in the offense this season because he is a better receiver than RB Chris Ivory. Ivory is expected to be the team's starting running back this season.
Fri, 09 Aug 2013 15:03:07 -0700
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell may not get a lot of playing time in the first preseason game because the team does not want to overwork him. Powell has received more reps because of injuries to RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) and RB Joe McKnight (head).
