Jets | Bilal Powell ready to make an impact

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 18:30:02 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell has five carries and three catches through two games this season, but he said he will be ready to handle a bigger load whenever he is needed.

Fantasy Tip: Veteran Matt Forte is off to an excellent start, and as long as he remains healthy and productive, Powell is simply a handcuff.

Jets | Matt Forte still thriving

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 17:20:07 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte has shown no sign of old age or wear and tear yet in 2016. He is third in the NFL in rush attempts (52), second in rushing yards (196) and tied for first in rushing touchdowns (3). It was suspected that RB Bilal Powell would take away a good chunk of Forte's touches this season, but that has not been close to the case so far.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is a weekly RB1 in standard and PPR formats at this point. As for Powell, don't give up on him just yet, especially if you own both Forte and Powell. If anything were to happen to Forte then Powell would be the heir apparent in New York's backfield. Plus, the Jets may start considering that they're using Forte too much.

Jets | Matt Forte sees the bulk of time

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 05:50:31 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte was in for 54 of the 71 offensive snaps in Week 1 while RB Bilal Powell was in on 17 plays.

Fantasy Tip: Forte rushed 22 times for 96 yards and caught five balls for 59 yards. It looked like a clear case of a team wanting to try out its new toy. Don't expect that kind of disparity moving forward. Forte is a solid RB2 in PPR leagues, and Powell should be handcuffed to him as an RB3 with upside should Forte go down.

Jets | NYJ expecting more balanced backfield?

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 09:14:10 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte will be the clear No. 1 back and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has already noted he will not be a snap count, but he may be primarily a first- and second-down back while RB Bilal Powell handles the third-down snaps, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Fantasy Tip: If Cimini proves to be correct, Forte could have trouble being much more than a low-end RB2. Realistically, however, the Jets wouldn't have pursued Forte in free agency had they not anticipated using him as a receiver, so this may be much ado about nothing. New York running backs combined for 94 catches a season ago, so there will be plenty of opportunity for both players in the passing game. Expect Forte to be a steady RB2, while Powell should be a high-end RB3/flex as well as a valuable handcuff.

Jets | Lots of rest for Matt Forte

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:42:46 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte should receive plenty of rest this season with RBs Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson also in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: It's to be expected that a running back at Forte's age and with Forte's workload wouldn't be a bellcow anymore. He's still the Jets' top option at the position, though, and should be viewed as a high-end RB2.

Jets | Big workload for Bilal Powell?

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 13:16:56 -0700

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell is expected to see a lot of touches this season, according to the New York Post's Brian Costello.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will play behind Matt Forte, but he played behind Chris Ivory last year and still excelled. The versatile running back has more value in PPR leagues after catching 47 passes last season. He's a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 option in those formats.

Jets | Bilal Powell contract details

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 17:03:57 -0800

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Bilal Powell's contract is three years in length and worth $11.25 million, including $6 million fully guaranteed.

Fantasy Tip: Powell will steal away a decent amount of playing time from newly acquired RB Matt Forte, specifically in passing situations. Powell was one of the most underrated PPR running backs last season and should be in the RB3 conversation in PPR formats.

Jets | Bilal Powell re-ups with Jets

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 09:51:55 -0800

Free-agent RB Bilal Powell (Jets) is re-signing with the New York Jets Thursday, March 10, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets are also signing Khiry Robinson, and Powell will likely have to battle him for about half the touches that won't go to Matt Forte. Powell is an RB4 that could emerge into an RB3.

Broncos | Denver eyeing Bilal Powell

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 11:54:34 -0800

The Denver Broncos are interested in New York Jets impending free-agent RB Bilal Powell as Powell's market begins to intensify. The Jets are still interested in bringing him back, too.

Fantasy Tip: Powell had 70 carries for 313 yards and one touchdown for the Jets in 2015, and he's had just five total touchdowns in the last two seasons. Powell would represent a complementary back in Gary Kubiak's zone-blocking scheme in Denver and is unlikely to carry much fantasy value.

Jets | Bilal Powell in focus for Gang Green

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 21:35:37 -0800

Free-agent RB Bilal Powell (Jets) has come into focus for the New York Jets, as they have already lost RB Chris Ivory to the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots are also interested in Powell's services, according league sources.

Fantasy Tip: Powell might find the situation in New York more tenable now that he would be at or near the top of the depth chart, perhaps seeing a majority of the touches.
