Wed, 05 Jun 2013 15:32:12 -0700 Former NFL QB Jeff George is in camp with the Minnesota Vikings as a guest instructor and mentor to QB Christian Ponder. "We told our players just to be able to pick his brain, our quarterbacks, and talk with him about some of the things he saw as a young quarterback and what he saw as a veteran and just his maturation over the course of his career," head coach Leslie Frazier said. "He was a very good player for a long time, high draft pick, and I think he can really help our players with some of his background and his knowledge as well." Fantasy Tip: Ponder hasn't impressed in his time in the NFL, but in his defense, he hasn't had much to work with through the air besides Percy Harvin. He has a few more weapons after the signing of Greg Jennings and the selection of Cordarrelle Patterson in the draft, but the Vikes' offense still runs through Adrian Peterson. Ponder is a shaky backup option heading into draft season.
Fri, 31 May 2013 06:59:19 -0700 Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Jennings (ankle) said he has been building chemistry with QB Christian Ponder even though he has not been able to participate in organized team activities by talking with Ponder about the things he sees during plays. "With a guy like Christian, he's very smart," Jennings said. "You pick each other's brains, and once you're on the field, that chemistry starts to form itself." Fantasy Tip: Even though Jennings is not able to participate, it is good for him to be talking with Ponder to make sure they are on the same page in terms of the plays. The two players should be able to build on the chemistry on the field during training camp. Jennings should be seen as a solid No. 3 wide receiver in drafts this season and could be a weekly option at the flex position.
Wed, 01 May 2013 08:08:11 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder (elbow) had an MRI on his elbow after the bone bruise flared up several weeks after the season. He went to the emergency room fearing it was a blood clot. He said it's fine now, though.
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 21:00:26 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder remains the unquestioned starter entering his third NFL season. However, if he goes into a protracted slump like last season, the coaching staff could be inclined to take a look at QB Matt Cassel, who will make $3.7 million this season even if he doesn't take a snap. Cassel fits the system of offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave better than QB Joe Webb, who is expected to serve as the third QB.
Mon, 18 Mar 2013 10:57:18 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder said he would like to see WR Greg Jennings travel to Arizona to get some work in during the offseason.
Sat, 16 Mar 2013 17:47:12 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Matt Cassel said he understands that he will be the No. 2 quarterback and that QB Christian Ponder will be the team's starting quarterback. "They said they're looking to bring somebody in with experience who could come in and basically be somebody who can step in if need be. The fact of the matter is, again, Christian is the starting quarterback. I think we'll have a great [meeting] room. I'm there to add value. I'm there to help him out in whatever capacity that is, and go from there," Cassel said.
Fri, 15 Mar 2013 18:08:07 -0700 Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Jennings was cordial when speaking about his new QB Christian Ponder Friday, March 15. "You could see on film (Ponder) didn't have a lot of options to throw to," Jennings said. He said he didn't mean any disrespect. Fantasy Tip: It's a nice idea to be instantly sympatico with your new quarterback, but at the same time the remaining wideouts and tight end targets from last season might not be too keen being called out by their newest teammate. Still, Jennings has to really only make nice with one guy, and he did. He should be a serviceable WR2 in 2013.
Thu, 14 Mar 2013 12:53:47 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Matt Cassel is expected to compete with QB Christian Ponder for the starting quarterback job next season.
Sun, 27 Jan 2013 18:14:23 -0800 The Minnesota Vikings finished the regular season 31st in passing offense, posting 171.9 net yards per game, down from 28th in 2011. The biggest difference was a slip in red-zone touchdown rate, going from ninth in the NFL, to 18th with a 53.8 percent conversion rate. The Vikings also dropped in third-down conversion rate from 14th in the league, to 19th with a 37.1 percent success rate. Despite those numbers, QB Christian Ponder improved in nearly every statistical category, although his performance was uneven over the course of the season.
Mon, 21 Jan 2013 15:23:43 -0800 The Minnesota Vikings will be looking for quarterbacks to compete with QB Joe Webb to the backup position for QB Christian Ponder this offseason. Free-agent QBs Derek Anderson (Panthers), Matt Moore (Dolphins), David Carr (Giants), Matt Leinart (Raiders), Byron Leftwich (Steelers), Bruce Gradkowski (Bengals), Jason Campbell (Bears) and Rex Grossman (Redskins) are options.
