Cubs | Matt Szczur making first start

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 09:53:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Matt Szczur is making his season debut in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Matzek Friday, April 10. Szczur is starting in left field and batting sixth in place of OF Chris Coghlan.

Fantasy Tip: Szczur ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a reach for a FantasyScore roster spot in his first start of the 2015 season against a left-handed pitcher. It's best to look elsewhere.

Cubs | Starlin Castro to miss time

Thu, 21 Aug 2014 11:07:31 -0700

The Chicago Cubs have placed SS Starlin Castro on the bereavement list. The team also recalled 2B Logan Watkins from Triple-A Iowa.

Fantasy Tip: Castro could miss up to a week while on the bereavement list. The team could consider moving Javier Baez to shortstop and Arismendy Alcantara to second base with Justin Ruggiano and Matt Szczur seeing time in the outfield. Ruggiano and Szczur probably should only be options in NL-only leagues.

Red Sox | Trying to get rid of John Lackey

Thu, 20 Oct 2011 08:53:32 -0700

The Boston Red Sox proposed that the Chicago Cubs take SP John Lackey's contract as part of the compensation for general manager Theo Epstein's move to Chicago. Lackey has three years remaining on his five-year, $82.5 million pact. However, the expected compensation will involve Cubs' minor leaguers, although not OF Brett Jackson, P Trey McNutt or P Matt Szczur. Cash will not be part of the swap.

While the San Diego Padres have not confirmed the report, general manager Jed Hoyer is expected to be hired as the Cubs' next general manager under Theo Epstein. There will be no compensation for Hoyer, according to sources. Padres vice president of baseball operations Josh Byrnes will become the new GM in San Diego.
