Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa tagged with loss

Wed, 04 May 2016 19:20:28 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa (3-4) allowed four runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Miami Marlins Wednesday, May 4, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa lost for the first time in his last four outings and had a scoreless streak of 12 1/3 innings snapped during the second inning. He will look to get back on track in his next start against the Colorado Rockies Monday, May 9, but he is not a recommended fantasy option because the game is in Denver.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa on a roll

Wed, 04 May 2016 11:41:57 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa has an 11-inning scoreless streak entering his start against the Miami Marlins Wednesday, May 4, and he is 3-0 with a 0.64 ERA in his last three games (two starts).

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa has improved against left-handers recently and struck out 10 in his last outing against the St. Louis Cardinals. He remains an intriguing raw talent but has been hard to rely on in fantasy because of his inconsistency. The matchup against Miami is a nice one especially now that Dee Gordon is suspended. De La Rosa makes for an attractive second daily starter tonight.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa fans 10

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 21:41:26 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa allowed two hits while walking two and striking out 10 over seven shutout innings in a win over the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday, April 28.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa made an adjustment to his approach a couple of starts ago, and he has allowed five hits and one run while striking out 16 over his last 13 innings. The success may not continue, but his strikeout potential makes him worth a look in deeper mixed formats.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa adjusting approach

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 18:00:20 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa said he pitched at a better pace and attacked hitters aggressively with his fastball in his win against the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa made a few appearances out of the bullpen after a couple of rough starts to open the year, but he delivered a solid outing in his return to the rotation. It remains to be seen if his new approach will yield long-term success, but with 18 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings, he could be worth a flier in NL-only formats.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa with lousy start

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 08:41:45 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa allowed seven runs and six hits in just 3 1/3 innings to take the loss against the Chicago Cubs in his season debut Thursday, April 7. Diamondbacks starters have combined to allow 24 runs -- 23 earned -- on 31 hits, including nine home runs in 20 1/3 innings for an ERA of 10.18 to start the year.

Fantasy Tip: The Cubs are a daunting matchup for any pitcher this year, but it's not the way you would've wanted to see De La Rosa start his season. He had a tale of two halves last year and he dominated righties but struggled against lefties. De La Rosa is at best a matchup play in cavernous mixed and NL-only setups.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa will be in rotation

Sat, 20 Feb 2016 09:33:59 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa will open the regular season as part of the starting rotation, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa finished last season with 14-9 record and a 4.67 ERA and likely will be used as the No. 4 or No. 5 starter this season. De La Rosa will be an option in most NL-only leagues and some deeper mixed leagues but should not be more than a late-round option.

Diamondbacks | ARI has battle for two rotation spots

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 17:41:03 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SPs Rubby De La Rosa and Robbie Ray are believed to be the favorites to win the fourth and fifth spots in the team's starting rotation behind SPs Zack Greinke, Shelby Miller and Patrick Corbin, based on how they performed in 2015. SPs Archie Bradley, Zack Godley and Tyler Wagner are also believed to be involved in the competition.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa led all Arizona starters in victories (14) and games started (32) but posted a 4.67 ERA and served up 32 home runs over 188 2/3 innings in 2015. Ray went 5-12 but posted a respectable 3.52 ERA in 23 starts, along with 119 strikeouts in 127 2/3 innings. Both hurlers could be available in the later middle rounds of NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, although fantasy owners should monitor the competition throughout spring training to make sure that they crack the rotation.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa avoids arbitration

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 18:46:44 -0800

The Arizona Diamondbacks have avoided salary arbitration with SP Rubby De La Rosa by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $2.35 million.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa went 14-9 with a 4.67 ERA in 32 starts last season, with 150 strikeouts in 188 2/3 innings. He's worth considering as a middle-of-the-rotation arm in NL-only fantasy leagues, although his ERA is a tad high and his 7.2 K/9 isn't eye-popping.

MLB | Arizona-Texas in trade talks

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 11:22:45 -0800

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers are set to sit down and talk trades of pitchers at the winter meetings Wednesday, Dec. 9. The D-backs have a surplus of starting pitching after acquiring SPs Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller, and the Rangers have bullpen depth, and RP Steven Tolleson is of interest to Arizona. RP Keone Kela is also drawing significant trade interest. Diamondbacks SPs Rubby De La Rosa, Archie Bradley, Zack Godley and Chase Anderson could interest Texas.

Fantasy Tip: Talks appear to just be in initial stages, so nothing is imminent on this front, but it all makes plenty of sense. If Tolleson is traded away, Kela will be very attractive as a low-cost closing option for fantasy owners.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa stays hot

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 21:07:28 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out six over seven innings in a win over the Cincinnati Reds Friday, Aug. 21, and he is 5-0 in seven starts since the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) still owns a 4.32 ERA for the year, but he has a 2.54 ERA since the break. He won't strike out a ton of batters, but he isn't a bad value play at FantasyScore right now.
