Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa still weeks away

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 14:28:44 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) said he is still a couple of weeks away from throwing a bullpen session.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is a low-end option in deep mixed and NL-only leagues, which are the only formats to even consider stashing him in. He's returned a 4.44 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP and 7.3 K/9 through his 68 career starts and doesn't project to finally put it all together at age 27.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa to play catch

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 19:06:52 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) was scheduled to play catch Monday, June 27, for the first time since going on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: RDLR is still a ways off from a return to the big club, but he is worth keeping around should he be able to return later this summer. He is a big-time strikeouts pitcher when healthy.

Diamondbacks | Good news for Rubby De La Rosa

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 15:03:50 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) will not need another Tommy John surgery after he received a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews. De La Rosa's ligament is stretched. He's scheduled to return sometime in August or September.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa was a bit inconsistent this year, but he was making strides, mainly with his dominance (career-high 9.3 K/9) and ability to miss bats. It's understandable to leave him to the waiver wire in most mixed leagues for other healthy and productive options, but De La Rosa deserves to be stashed in deeper NL-only leagues.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa injury update

Fri, 27 May 2016 15:38:10 -0700

Updating a previous report, Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) is dealing with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, according to manager Chip Hale. De La Rosa will consult with Dr. James Andrews, who performed Tommy John surgery on De La Rosa in 2011.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa owners must be heartbroken. He was enjoying a resurgent season aside from his last crummy start against the Pirates. Until we know more, he's worth stashing in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Archie Bradley and Edwin Escobar are entering the rotation for the Snakes. Bradley hasn't fared well in the bigs in his few starts this year but has upside after dominating in the minors. He's worth a flier for rotation help in deeper leagues. Escobar will be making his debut and might not be long for the major leagues. Take a flier on him in NL-only leagues if you're desperate.

Diamondbacks | Peter O'Brien, others coming up

Fri, 27 May 2016 15:03:57 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Peter O'Brien and RPs Silvino Bracho and Dominic Leone were recalled from Class AAA Friday, May 27. RP Josh Collmenter (shoulder) was also reinstated from the 15-day disabled list. SPs Shelby Miller (finger) and Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) were placed on the disabled list in corresponding moves.

Fantasy Tip: O'Brien is a big-time power prospect who has transitioned from catcher to the outfield. He hit 26 homers in the minors in 2015 and is a waiver wire target for home runs in the short term in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. His stay could be short, though, with David Peralta returning from the DL soon. Bracho has potential to be a successful late-inning reliever, but he's a watch list guy for now. Collmenter is likely to serve in a long-relief role despite the D-backs having a need for starters at the moment. He can be ignored in fantasy.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa to miss a month

Fri, 27 May 2016 14:44:06 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) said he will miss a month with inflammation in his right elbow. For now, surgery is not an option.

Fantasy Tip: This is troubling news for De La Rosa owners and might explain why he allowed five earned runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings his last time out. Before that, though, the was making notable improvements (career-high 9.3 K/9). If you have the room, he's worth stashing in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Shelby Miller (finger) is also on the DL, so both promising young pitchers Archie Bradley and Braden Shipley could enter the rotation for the D-backs. Keep an eye on them and add if necessary in deeper leagues for their upside.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa to be skipped

Tue, 17 May 2016 15:10:15 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa will have his next turn in the starting rotation skipped in order to let him rest some minor, nagging injuries, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa was a popular waiver wire target after he allowed just two earned runs with 13 K's in his last two starts, including an impressive one at Coors Field. The right-hander has made notable strides this year and his fanning a career-high 9.3 per nine innings. Despite his next start being skipped, he should remain rostered in the majority of leagues.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa throttles Coors kids

Tue, 10 May 2016 23:10:41 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa allowed a run on four hits and struck out six in 7 1/3 innings to beat the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field Tuesday, May 10. "I think right now that every inning I'm coming in from the bullpen," said De La Rosa, who spent some time in the bullpen earlier this season. "Go in there and try to get three hitters and (sit) back down."

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is 3-1 with a 2.07 ERA and 26 K's in as many innings his last four starts. He should be picked up in most formats and is a midrange starter in DFS when his turn comes around.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa tagged with loss

Wed, 04 May 2016 19:20:28 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa (3-4) allowed four runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Miami Marlins Wednesday, May 4, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa lost for the first time in his last four outings and had a scoreless streak of 12 1/3 innings snapped during the second inning. He will look to get back on track in his next start against the Colorado Rockies Monday, May 9, but he is not a recommended fantasy option because the game is in Denver.

Diamondbacks | Rubby De La Rosa on a roll

Wed, 04 May 2016 11:41:57 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa has an 11-inning scoreless streak entering his start against the Miami Marlins Wednesday, May 4, and he is 3-0 with a 0.64 ERA in his last three games (two starts).

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa has improved against left-handers recently and struck out 10 in his last outing against the St. Louis Cardinals. He remains an intriguing raw talent but has been hard to rely on in fantasy because of his inconsistency. The matchup against Miami is a nice one especially now that Dee Gordon is suspended. De La Rosa makes for an attractive second daily starter tonight.
