Red Sox | Clay Buchholz update

Tue, 18 Jun 2013 07:49:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (neck) will throw Tuesday, June 18. The next step would be to throw a side session or go on the disabled list. SPs Rubby De La Rosa or Allen Webster would make a spot start this weekend if Buchholz went on the disabled list.

Red Sox | Jon Lester to start Sunday, Clay Buchholz Tuesday

Thu, 13 Jun 2013 15:32:06 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester will start on Sunday, June 16, against the Baltimore Orioles. SP Clay Buchholz (neck) has been pushed back to start one end of the team's doubleheader on Tuesday, June 18, versus the Tampa Bay Rays. P's Alfredo Aceves and Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) are the two candidates to start the other end of the twin bill.

Fantasy Tip: This just confirms what seemed likely a day ago. Lester is working on some mechanical issues and isn't the safest play; the BoSox were hoping for a couple of extra days to get him some extra work on the side. Aceves has pitched well in three starts and would seem to be the safer choice. Buchholz can't be considered a lock to make his start Tuesday, yet.

Red Sox | Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster candidates for spot start

Tue, 11 Jun 2013 15:31:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox SPs Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster, along with P Alfredo Aceves, are candidates to start one end of a doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

De La Rosa's pitch counts have moved into the 80s recently, but he has completed five innings only once in his 11 starts for Triple-A Pawtucket. He's allowed only four earned runs in his last eight starts (good for a 1.14 ERA in that span), however.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like De La Rosa isn't the ideal candidate, especially since Webster has already filled in twice this season -- once quite well, once disastrously -- and Aceves would also be on turn. Clay Buchholz's recent neck issue, along with the recent taxing of Boston's bullpen, has forced them to examine their options. It's feasible to think that P Franklin Morales, who was originally scheduled to start on Wednesday before he was needed for a couple of frames in last night's 14-inning game, is an option for the doubleheader, too.

Red Sox | Rubby De La Rosa will not make team

Fri, 01 Mar 2013 21:44:33 -0800

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell has already ruled out P Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) from breaking camp with the big club, and he left open the possibility that De La Rosa could start the season with Double-A Portland, rather than a lock to go to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Red Sox | Rubby De La Rosa to be limited

Tue, 19 Feb 2013 13:03:43 -0800

Boston Red Sox SP Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) will be limited to two innings per outing this spring even though the team is preparing him as a starter. De La Rosa has thrown only a total of 53 innings the last two years due to Tommy John surgery.
