The Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals head coach Dave McGinnis has announced LB Rob Fredrickson (neck) will miss two weeks. He underwent an MRI exam after practice Thursday after experiencing persistent soreness. He suffered a stinger in the teamís Nov. 10 game against Seattle. Levar Woods will start in his place.

AZCardinals.com reports Arizona Cardinals linebacker coach Jeff Fitzgerald is expecting stiff competition at the linebacker position during training camp. LBs Ronald McKinnon, Raynoch Thompson and Rob Fredrickson will be the starters going into training camp. LBs Le Var Woods and Michael Young are expected to push for more playing time this season. Rookie LB Levar Fisher and veteran LB Sekou Sanyika will also be worked into the mix.

Neither LB Rob Fredrickson (knee) or CB Tom Knight (hamstring) were able to practice on Wednesday, which has been common as they often miss practice. Knight is listed as doubtful again this week.

WR/KR MarTay Jenkins (rib/ankle) has still not returned to practice. "It doesnít look good to me," coach Dave McGinnis stated on the chances of Jenkins being available on Sunday. LB Rob Fredrickson (knee) and CB Tom Knight (hamstring) continue to miss practice and as usual will be game day decisions. LB Raynoch Thompson (knee) and TE Lawrence Hart (ankle) also remained sidelined on Thursday. If Thompson can't play Sunday, Zack Walz will start at left linebacker.

AzCardinals.com reports Arizona Cardinals starting C Mike Gruttadauria (stinger) missed today's practice, but he still expects to play Sunday. Coach Dave McGinnis said he sat out today's practice as a precautionary measure only. Starting guards Leonard Davis (shoulder) and Pete Kendall (foot) were both able to participate again on Friday. Kendall knows he is not fully healthy, but is willing to play if called upon by McGinnis. WR/KR MarTay Jenkins, who is suffering from rib and ankle injuries, was unable to practice at all this week and he remains questionable for Sunday. LB Rob Fredrickson (knee) and CB Tom Knight (hamstring) sat out today as well. Both remain gameday decisions.

AZCardinals.com reports Arizona Cardinals WR MarTay Jenkins (rib/knee) returned to practice Wednesday, despite practicing through pain with rib and knee injuries. Jenkins said he was feeling much better today, but said he'll continue to receive treatment. LB Rob Fredrickson (knee), G Pete Kendall (foot) and CB Tom Knight (hamstring) also missed practice again Wednesday. Fredrickson and Knight will travel with the team this weekend and appear to be game time decisions while Kendall was able to do some individual work before Wednesday's practice. DL Thomas Burke (neck) practiced on a limited basis Tuesday and Wednesday.

AzCardinals.com reports Arizona Cardinals G Leonard Davis (back) was unable to practice today, despite a clean MRI on his back. "Leonard is getting a lot closer,Ē Head Coach Dave McGinnis said. Davis hopes to practice tomorrow. The team's other starting G Pete Kendall missed practice and remains doubtful for Sunday. McGinnis indicated that Davis closer to being ready for game-action than Kendall. WR Frank Sanders (hamstrings) returned to practice today. CB Tom Knight (hamstring) sat out today's practice and the team is not sure if he will return tomorrow. LB Rob Fredrickson (knee) also missed Thursdayís workout. He won't practice tomorrow and he will be a game time decision Sunday.

Head coach Dave McGinnis said Kendall told him he's closer to playing this weekend than he is to being out for the season as some previous reports stated. X-rays have been sent of to another physician in New York and they're awaiting an update on them. P Scott Player (ankle) practiced again Wednesday and will be ready to punt this weekend.

The Arizona Republic reports Arizona Cardinals P Scott Player ran Monday and was scheduled to try kicking today. If he can kick this week the team may be able to release his fill-in, Chad Stanley, which would free up a roster space. Starting LG Pete Kendall (foot) was expected to have an MRI last night. He is not expected to play this week. Starting RG Leonard Davis (back spasms) was better yesterday. OLB Rob Fredrickson is still bothered by a sore knee that is expected to trouble him for the rest of the season.

Backup LB Zack Walz (neck) will miss 3-4 days, LB Ronald McKinnon (broken thumb) 2-3 days, starting CB Tom Knight (hamstring, stinger, knuckle) 3-4 days and starting OLB Rob Fredrickson (knee) will miss 3-4 days.

The Arizona Republic reports results of an MRI on Arizona Cardinals PK Cary Blanchard's injured right foot have not been released yet. If not for the injury, Blanchard might have been cut this week. Also, LB James Folston has a herniated disc in his back that could require surgery. Folston said doctors want him to rest a week or two to see if the condition improves. LB Rob Fredrickson didn't practice for the second straight day on Tuesday. FB Joel Makovicka (hamstring) didn't practice as well.

Fredrickson, who said he's never had back pain in his football career, was told by a chiropractor that his was just a freak injury. WR Rob Moore said he is excited about his probable return to game action when the Cardinals visit the Chicago Bears on Saturday. FB Joel Makovicka (hamstring) and TEs Elliot Carson (ankle) and Jay Tant (knee) remained out of practice.

The Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals LB Rob Fredrickson (back spasms) missed practice on Monday. He missed last weekend's pre-season game after experiencing back spasms during pre-game stretching. Coach Dave McGinnis said Fredrickson is "going to be fine, but he was still stiff today and we didn't want to risk playing him." PK Cary Blanchard, apparently trailing rookie PK Bill Gramatica in the race to be the team's place kicker, missed practice with a swollen foot. McGinnis did not know how Blanchard was injured.

Darren Urban reports for the Sporting News Arizona Cardinals LB Rob Fredrickson is recovering from recent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder, but he is expected to be fine. There had been some talk Fredrickson could be a cap casualty since he carries a $2.4 million salary cap number for 2001. Recent indications are that is not going to happen as coach Dave McGinnis is a big supporter of Fredrickson.

The Arizona Republic reports that the Cardinals may use a committee approach in their attempt to replace Jamir Miller. Rob Fredrickson will get the first chance to win the starting left linebacker's job. If he fails to win the job then Patrick Sapp and Tony McCombs, who will battle for the right outside linebacker spot, would get a shot. Miller did tell a local radio station, KMVP, that the Cardinals were in the competition for his services all the way until Tuesday when he agreed to sign with the Browns.

Fredrickson lives in Arizona and he is the first visitor from another team to Cardinals headquarters. He already has visited the Giants, Redskins and Saints.

The Detroit Free Press reports that QB Gus Frerotte's contract with the Lions is reportedly a three-year, $3.6 million deal which includes a $600,000 signing bonus. The last two years 2000 (worth $1.2 million) and 2001 (worth $1.4 million) are said to be voidable. The Lions and Frerotte's agent would not comment on the terms. The article also reports that LB Rob Fredrickson's visit to New Orleans apparently did not result in him being offered a contract.

According to the Detriot Free Press the Lions are targeting re-signing LB Stephen Boyd, S Ron Rice and LB Rob Fredrickson as high priority before Friday's free agency period. If Boyd does not sign by 4 p.m. today, the Lions could apply the franchise-player tag to keep him from unrestricted free agency, but Tom Lewand the Lions cap VP hopes to avoid that step.
