The Miami Marlins are considering giving SP Jacob Turner more rest before his next start after he failed to go six innings for his sixth straight start Sunday, Sept. 8. His next turn in the rotation is scheduled to come up Friday, Sept. 13, against the New York Mets. SPs Brad Hand and Brian Flynn will play into the equation in the starting rotation down the stretch.
Fantasy Tip: Turner appears to be tiring down the stretch, which is a good reason for the Fish to rest him in the final weeks. Hand and Flynn should only be considered in NL-only universes.

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez will be shut down at around 170 innings this year. He's currently at 139 2/3 innings, so he could be shut down before the season's final month. Fernandez had never pitched above Class A before this season as a 21-year-old. The team could decide to shut SP Jacob Turner down, too, if he shows signs of fatigue. SPs Brad Hand and Brian Flynn could be called up in September to help fill the rotation. SP Sam Dyson is another candidate. It's doubtful SPs Andrew Heaney, Anthony DeSclafini or Justin Nicolino will be recalled from Double-A Jacksonville.
Fantasy Tip: Fernandez, at 8-5 with a 2.45 ERA and 149 strikeouts, is a heavy favorite for NL Rookie of the Year honors. He's been fantastic, but the time to utilize his talents is running out. Just be aware. Any of the young hurlers the Marlins may call up would only be useful for a start or two in deep NL-only leagues. If you're in the running for a fantasy championship, it's probably wise not to rely on them.

The Miami Marlins activated SS Adeiny Hechavarria (elbow) from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, May 2, and optioned RP Brad Hand to Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move.

Miami Marlins SS Adeiny Hechavarria (elbow) is expected to come off the disabled list Thursday, May 2. He's been out since April 18 with a right elbow contusion. He'll have a rehab outing with Single-A Jupiter Wednesday, May 1. INF Nick Green will be designated for assignment to make room for Hechavarria. The team is also expected to send RP Brad Hand to Triple-A New Orleans and recall OF Matt Diaz from the minors. Diaz has been playing first base at New Orleans.

The Miami Marlins called up OF Marcell Ozuna from Double-A Jacksonville and P Brad Hand from Triple-A New Orleans.
Fantasy Tip: Ozuna has some power, but he's still unpolished. He was hitting .333-5-15 in just 10 games at Jacksonville. Keep an eye on this kid in mixed formats and add him in NL-only formats. He's expected to see the bulk of the time in right field with Giancarlo Stanton out. Hand is just bullpen depth and doesn't warrant fantasy consideration.

Miami Marlins SP Wade LeBlanc is still believed to be the favorite for the fifth rotation spot, but he'll need to hold off SPs Brad Hand, John Maine, Alex Sanabia, Kevin Slowey and Mitch Talbot, all who have prior starting experience in the majors.

Miami Marlins executive Larry Beinfest said Tuesday, Jan. 29, that the fifth rotation spot is wide open. "(SP Wade LeBlanc) pitched well last year in the pen and starting so he may have a little leg up," Beinfest said. "(SP Brad Hand) had a great year in Triple-A. (SP Alex Sanabia) is back from injury and feeling well. And we have non-roster invitees who get in the mix as well, guys like (SP John Maine)."
