The Miami Marlins have announced that 22 players, including 11 organizational players, have received invitations to major league spring training camp. Ps Jose Alvarez, Robert Delaney, Chad Gaudin, Gary Glover, Chad James, Corey Madden, J.D. Martin, Rob Rasmussen, Robert Ray, Alejandro Ramos and Elih Villanueva, Cs Jake Jefferies, Luke Montz, Clint Sammons and Kyle Skipworth, INFs Nick Green, Donovan Solano, Terry Tiffee and Gil Velazquez and OFs Kyle Jensen and Aaron Rowand will participate in camp.

Marlins | Jose Lopez recalled

The Florida Marlins recalled 2B Jose Lopez from the minors Wednesday, June 15, and optioned SP Elih Villanueva back to Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move. C Brad Davis was also designated for assignment. Lopez will start at third base in the second game of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies. Manager Edwin Rodriguez plans to use Lopez mostly at third base.

Florida Marlins SP Josh Johnson (shoulder) may not return to the rotation until after the All-Star break. The team needs to make room on the 40-man roster for SP Elih Villanueva, and Johnson may be placed on the 60-day disabled list as a result.

Marlins | Team to recall starter from minors for Tuesday's game

Florida Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said the team will likely recall one of four pitchers from Triple-A Charlotte to take injured SP Josh Johnson's (shoulder) next turn in the starting rotation Tuesday, June 7. Minor league SPs Brad Hand, Tom Koehler, Chris Sampson and Elih Villanueva are under consideration to be recalled but Sampson is the only pitcher with prior major league experience.
