Marlins | Tom Koehler solid, but takes loss

Wed, 18 May 2016 15:33:22 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler suffered his fourth loss of the season despite a fine showing Wednesday, May 18, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He tied a season high by going seven innings, issuing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and five walks, while striking out four.

Fantasy Tip: That's way too many baserunners to allow on the basepaths but other than that, Koehler was pretty good here, adding another nice effort to his recent string of solid starts. In his last three outings, he's allowed two earned runs or fewer, though he has no wins to show for it. If he can keep it up, he'll have some value for NL-only leagues, but he's still too inconsistent overall for most mixed formats.

Marlins | Tom Koehler to start Sunday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 09:45:10 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler is now scheduled to start against the Washington Nationals Sunday, April 10. He was scheduled to start Saturday, April 9, but the game was postponed.

Fantasy Tip: Koehler will be facing a tough Nationals lineup Sunday, so he may only be a starting option in NL-only leagues. Owners in mixed leagues should be able to find other candidates to use in their lineup.

MLB | Miami-Washington postponed

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 09:33:08 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross was scheduled to face Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Saturday, April 9, but the game has been postponed because of inclement weather. The game has been rescheduled for May 14 as part of a split doubleheader.

Fantasy Tip: Owners in daily leagues and other leagues should take their Marlins and Nationals players out of their lineups.

Marlins | Adam Conley makes rotation

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 16:33:43 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley earned the No. 3 starting rotation role, with SPs Tom Koehler and Jarred Cosart following him, according to manager Don Mattingly. Conley's first start will come against the Washington Nationals April 7. He went 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in 9 2/3 innings this spring. Cosart topped out at 98 mph this spring and didn't allow a run in 9 2/3 innings while striking out nine.

Fantasy Tip: There is excellent value to be had by selecting Conley as a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues. The lefty is a strikeout artist that has great K/BB ratios and will continue to fly under the radar. Cosart, despite his heat, has struggled to generate a lot of K's, and his shaky command limits his upside.

Marlins | Tom Koehler day-to-day

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 10:20:39 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler (elbow) was hit by a comebacker below his right elbow Monday, March 28, and he's listed as day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Koehler is a pretty mediocre pitcher in today's day and age. Nothing about his skillset says you should invest in any mixed leagues. He's an NL-only option as an innings eater in Miami's rotation.

Marlins | Jarred Cosart not guaranteed a spot

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 22:12:34 -0800

Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart isn't guaranteed of a rotation spot, and the team has even indicated a willingness to send him to the minors if he doesn't win a starting job. If he does win a job, he would be slotted behind SPs Jose Fernandez, Wei-Yin Chen and Tom Koehler.

Fantasy Tip: Cosart has had a tale of two seasons over the past two campaigns, winning 13 games with a 3.69 ERA in 30 starts between Houston and Miami in 2014, and 2-5 with a 4.52 ERA in 13 starts in 2015. However, he did deal with a bout of vertigo which threw him off last season. If he is over that situation he could rebound nicely and be quite the fantasy sleeper in NL-only formats and deeper mixed leagues.

Marlins | Tom Koehler avoids arbitration

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 12:13:08 -0800

Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler re-signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract to avoid arbitration Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Koehler should be left to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Over the past three seasons, he has an underwhelming 4.07 ERA, a 4.21 FIP, a 1.34 WHIP and a 6.6 K/9. In other seasonal formats and at FantasyScore, he is a spot-start option in favorable matchups.

Marlins | Tom Koehler ties career high

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 22:52:02 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler allowed two earned runs, four hits and two walks while tying a career-high with 10 strikeouts in eight innings Wednesday, Sept. 9, against the Milwaukee Brewers. It was Koehler's first win since July 23.

Fantasy Tip: After a lengthy win drought, Koehler ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) still needs to show more consistency before FantasyScore players can trust him again.

Marlins | Tom Koehler's struggles continue

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 18:27:14 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler (8-11) allowed seven runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, Aug. 19, with four walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Koehler ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is 0-5 with an 8.15 ERA over his last five starts and should not be trusted in FantasyScore at this point. His next scheduled start will be Monday, Aug. 24, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Marlins | Tom Koehler hammered at home

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 20:19:54 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler allowed seven runs - six earned - and seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts in just 4 1/3 innings in a loss Monday, Aug. 3, against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Koehler ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) has allowed 11 earned runs over his past 10 1/3 innings in the past two starts to raise his ERA from 3.16 to 3.71 just since July 23. FantasyScore players will want to avoid him until he can starts to pitch with more consistency and efficiency.
