Panthers | Cam Newton limited on Wednesday

Wed, 22 Nov 2017 15:21:05 -0800

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (thumb) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 22, due to a right thumb injury.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has been limited in mid-week practices after offseason shoulder surgery, so this is a new ailment. The indications are that it isn't serious and he should be fine for Sunday's game at N.Y. Jets. The Jets are middle of the pack with 229.0 yards per game allowed through the air, but they have allowed 20 passing scores through 10 games with 35 pass play of 20 yards.

Panthers | Cam Newton has monster outing on MNF

Mon, 13 Nov 2017 21:29:44 -0800

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed 21-of-35 passes for 254 yards and four touchdowns in the team's Week 10 win Monday, Nov. 13, versus the Miami Dolphins. He also added 95 rushing yards on just five carries.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has had an up-and-down year, but it's games like this one that prove he still might be in the upper echelon of NFL quarterbacks when it comes to fantasy football. The former No. 1 overall draft pick was pretty much able to do whatever he wanted, and with that potential on any given week, he's still very much a legitimate QB1. With the Panthers cruising right now, don't be surprised if Newton keeps it going.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) fully participated in practice Saturday, Nov. 11, and is not on the injury report for Week 10. The Panthers did not hold a practice Saturday, so his practice designation is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has been dealing with his shoulder injury for the entire season but should be ready to play this week. He has one passing touchdown and three interceptions over the last three games but also has a rushing touchdown during that span. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most leagues and could be benched if owners have better options.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) practiced in full on Friday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has been on the injury report all season due to his surgically repaired shoulder, but he hasn't missed any starts. Start him as you normally would in fantasy against a Miami pass defense ranking 19th in the NFL, with 23 pass plays of 20 or more yards allowed.

Thu, 09 Nov 2017 11:46:40 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Newton has been limited during practice over the last few weeks but should be ready to play in Week 10. He has been held to under 250 yards passing in each of the last four games but has rushed for at least 50 yards in three of those games. He can be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback this week but is not a must-start option like in the past.

Panthers | Cam Newton runs for 86 yards, TD

Sun, 05 Nov 2017 14:18:46 -0800

Carolina Panthers WR Cam Newton completed just 13 of his 24 passes for 137 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons, but he was able to run for a game-high 86 yards with a touchdown on nine attempts.

Fantasy Tip: The Panthers probably don't want Newton leading the team in rushing, but fantasy owners are pretty happy with the outcome. The highlight of the day was a 34-yard tuck and run in the first quarter to jump-start the offense early. He'll look for better results against the visiting Dolphins on Monday night in Week 10.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 3, but is not on the injury report for Week 9.

Panthers | Cam Newton listed as limited

Thu, 02 Nov 2017 11:51:49 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) was limited during practice Thursday, Nov. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Newton should be able to play in Week 9 but has struggled over the last several games. He has thrown two touchdowns and six interceptions over the last three games and has only two 300-yard games in 2017. He could still be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback this week because there are six teams on bye.

Panthers | Cam Newton draws limited status

Wed, 01 Nov 2017 13:49:45 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has strung together three abysmal performances in a row, throwing six interceptions to just two touchdowns in those three games. To make matters worse, Newton lost his No.1 receiver this week as Kelvin Benjamin was traded to the Buffalo Bills. He does still have Devin Funchess, Christian McCaffrey and Curtis Samuel, among others, to throw to, but Newton is no longer a viable QB1 start.

Panthers | Cam Newton leads team in rushing

Sun, 29 Oct 2017 13:57:37 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed 18 of his 32 pass attempts for 154 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he had a team-high 44 rushing yards on 11 attempts.

Fantasy Tip: It's never a great thing when Newton leads the offense in rushing, as that means the attack wasn't terribly balanced and he didn't receive much help on the ground. Jonathan Stewart did score, but he was bottled up most of the afternoon. The team will look for more balanced production in a key NFC South game at home against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9.

Fri, 27 Oct 2017 16:00:40 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 27, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Newton is coming off two disappointing games where he threw five interceptions and only one touchdown during that span. He will have most of his weapons available in the passing game and will be facing a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense that has struggled against the pass. He can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues this week.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has struggled over the last two with five interceptions and only one touchdown during that span. He should have all of his weapons available this week and could be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback in most leagues because of the matchup.

Panthers | Cam Newton owns stellar numbers vs. TB

Wed, 25 Oct 2017 20:41:15 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has a 99.7 QB Rating for his career against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his second-highest such mark opposite an opponent whom he's faced more than two times. Overall, he's completed 154 of 241 passes (63.9 percent) in those games for 2,068 yards, to go with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. In addition, he's registered 73 career rush attempts for 348 yards versus the Bucs.

Fantasy Tip: No other NFC team has allowed more passing yards per game this season than Tampa Bay, so Newton will be on track to churn out a monstrous performance for his owners in Week 8. True, the former No. 1 overall pick is coming off arguably his worst game of the campaign against the Bears, but that should only further motivate an angry Newton to deliver on Sunday opposite a division foe.

Panthers | Cam Newton limited Wednesday

Wed, 25 Oct 2017 12:11:00 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has had two games to forget the last two weeks. He has thrown five interceptions to only one touchdown and has only averaged 225 passing yards in those contests. This is the week to get back on track, though, as Newton and the Panthers take on one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He's a fine QB1 on paper.

Wed, 18 Oct 2017 13:55:50 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Newton's limited status has been pretty standard lately, as the team limits wear and tear on his surgically repaired shoulder during the week. Any issues or lingering soreness hasn't kept him from game time, so start him as you normally would.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart needs more carries

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 19:20:22 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart needs to be more involved in the offense, according to QB Cam Newton.

Fantasy Tip: Carolina's ground game is a mess right now, and the Panthers are currently tied for 29th in yards per carry. Stewart is averaging just 2.9 yards per carry, and he has 17 rushing yards over the last two games combined. You are better off benching him until he shows signs of life.

Panthers | Cam Newton throws three picks

Thu, 12 Oct 2017 21:08:11 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed 28 of 52 passes for 239 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 12. He also rushed 11 times for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't a great night for Newton, who was picked three times, had another erased on a penalty, and authored a World Cup style flop to draw a personal foul. He also took a pounding and was off target, completing just 53.8 percent of his throws with a long of 20 yards. On the plus side, Newton's legs produced 71 yards and a score, which salvaged an otherwise disappointing night. He'll have 10 days to heal up before traveling to face the Bears where he should be considered a solid QB1.

Panthers | Cam Newton remains limited

Tue, 10 Oct 2017 12:05:49 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) was limited in practice Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Newton should be good to go as long as there are no setbacks the next couple days. After one of the worst starts in all of the NFL this season, Newton seems to have found his groove. Over his past two contests he has averaged 335.5 yards and three touchdowns. On the season, he has rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Newton is a mainstay in QB1 territory as long as he's active.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed 26 of his 33 pass attempts for 355 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 5 game against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: There were some off-field distractions for Newton this week, but he was as focused as ever in the road victory. He has turned in two straight outstanding fantasy performances after a sluggish start. He'll look to keep up the good work in a short week against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6 on Thursday Night Football. The Eagles entered the day ranked 30th in the NFL in pass defense.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton threw for 316 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 33-30 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Newton's stock, which had been falling in the first three weeks, got strong once again in Week 4. Newton's QB stock has risen once again to the point where he ranks as a QB1 moving forward. This was the best performance for Newton this season, and it came at just the right time.

Fri, 29 Sep 2017 19:24:10 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Friday, Sept. 29, but is not listed on the Week 4 injury report.

Panthers | Cam Newton limited again

Thu, 28 Sep 2017 12:31:54 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Newton should receive his normal workload against the New England Patriots this week. He has thrown for less than 200 yards in two of his three games this season and is coming off a three-interception game. Newton may have to throw often if the Panthers are behind during the game and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most leagues.

Panthers | Cam Newton draws limited designation

Wed, 27 Sep 2017 13:31:20 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: On paper, Newton has an elite matchup with the New England Patriots this week. However, he has put up duds before in favorable matchups, including last week. Owners who aren't fed up with his inconsistency and who don't have better options can start him, but patience is wearing thin with Newton.

Panthers | Cam Newton lifted late in loss

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 13:36:22 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed just 17 of his 26 pass attempts for 167 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in Week 3 against the Saints and he was lifted late in the blowout loss.

Fantasy Tip: Newton was able to salvage the stat line with a rushing touchdown, but it certainly wasn't the breakout performance fantasy owners were expecting against a giving pass defense. Newton has struggled through three games and the Panthers offense has looked disjointed. He is fading as a QB1 option in fantasy leagues and needs a big performance in Week 4 at New England.

Panthers | Cam Newton expected to play

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 05:35:36 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder, ankle) is expected to play in Week 3's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Newton was a limited participant in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. Despite his sluggish start to the 2017 campaign, he should be viewed as a QB1 in all fantasy formats, given a highly favorable matchup against a New Orleans defense that has allowed 65 points over their first two games.

Panthers | Cam Newton still limited

Thu, 21 Sep 2017 12:07:03 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder, ankle) remained limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: This is the game for Newton to break out in 2017. The New Orleans Saints are arguably the worst pass defense in the NFL. If Newton can't achieve a QB1 outing in Week 3 then it's time to start questioning his season-long value.

Panthers | Cam Newton limited Wednesday

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 12:25:37 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder, ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Newton is healthy enough to play then he'll be in QB1 territory. Newton and the Panthers face a New Orleans Saints defense that has allowed 32.5 points per game in its first two games.

Panthers | Cam Newton accounts for zero TDs

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 15:48:25 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed 20 of his 32 pass attempts for 228 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 2 against the Bills while posting five runs for 27 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Newton was shaken up briefly in the game, as it appears he took an inadvertent knee to the head on one of his rush attempts, but he did not miss any snaps. He is off to a poor start for his fantasy owners so far, as the Carolina offense has totaled just two touchdowns through two games. Things should be a little more wide open in Week 3 against the defensively challenged Saints.
