Moore is reportedly well liked in Charlotte after previously playing three years for the Panthers. Impending free-agent QB Derek Anderson (Panthers) is not expected back, hinting he might reunite with Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski.

"I don't think there was a better person that could come in and take over," Newton said. "I'm excited about taking the next steps in the process with him." Newton said he has talked with Shula several times and expects the offense to be similar to the one they have been using but with some changes.

"You never know what (a coach) has planned," Tolbert said. "But at the same time, I think the basic scheme of things probably won't change much." Tolbert thinks Shula's hiring will be good for QB Cam Newton because he will not have to learn a new offense.
