Carolina Panthers LB Jon Beason responded to San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith via Twitter after comments he perceived were a slam on QB Cam Newton. Beason wrote, "Alex smith, don't hate on Cam (because) your stats would've gotten u cut if Peyton decided to come 2 San Fran. Truth b told. That's after a 13-3 yr." Smith used Newton as an example earlier this week that big stats don't always equate to wins.

Panthers | Coach not worried about slump for Cam Newton

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said he is not worried about a possible sophomore slump for QB Cam Newton because he expects Newton to work hard and not let it happen. "I will say this about a sophomore slump – if there's anybody that's going work through it, he's going to work through it. When the season was over, one of the things he said was he wanted to find a way to make sure he didn't have one. I think the less we talk about it, the less we get caught up in it, the better," Rivera said.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton says he has made great strides as a starting quarterback and has big expectations entering his second season. "With reviewing all the games from last year, I feel that the improvement is through the roof for me," Newton said. "I've had the whole offseason to work on the things that I feel like I need to get better at (and that) will come into fruition. With the upcoming OTAs, I feel like that's another time for me to get better."

The New Orleans Saints placed bounties on Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton this past season. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said he was disappointed upon hearing the news. "Obviously, you don't like to see anything like that," Hurney said. "I think anybody can imagine how you feel - whether it's your starting quarterback or any of your players (being targeted). Player safety is the number one issue in the league right now." In two games against Carolina last season, Saints defensive linemen were flagged for three personal fouls for hits on Newton.

Stanford QB Andrew Luck has been training with quarterback guru George Whitfield. Whitfield, who worked with Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton last year, said he had three sessions with Luck in Los Angeles leading into the NFL Scouting Combine.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton was named The Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year Saturday, Feb. 4. Newton received 47 of the possible 50 votes, with Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton receiving the other three. "First, I've got to give all the honor and glory to the man above," Newton said. "I want to also thank my coaching staff, my family, my teammates and (team owner Jerry Richardson) for giving me the opportunity. And my fans - without them, I would not be here."

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton hit WR Steve Smith for a 55-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Pro Bowl. That was about the biggest highlight of the day for Newton, who managed to complete just 9 of 27 passes for 186 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions, including one returned for touchdown. Smith finished with five grabs for 118 yards and the score.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton was on the field for a higher percentage of his team's offensive plays than all but three NFL quarterbacks in the 2011 season. Newton was on the field for 98.95 percent of Carolina's 1,046 offensive snaps. He was out for only 11 plays. New York Giants QB Eli Manning led the league in this category, playing in all 1,075 of his team's offensive plays.
