Twins | Brian Dozier, Miguel Sano shake slumps

Thu, 26 May 2016 10:01:42 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier and OF Miguel Sano both broke out of power slumps with home runs Wednesday, May 25. Dozier struck out twice and lined out in his other at-bats, but manager Paul Molitor liked that Dozier wasn't trying to pull everything. Sano struck out his first time up and entered the game with a league-high 66 strikeouts. Molitor sees Sano getting through his funk at the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier's low batting average on balls in play (.217) suggests more hits and home runs are in his future. After all, he did club 28 long balls a season ago. If the Dozier owner in your league is frustrated, take a gander at buying low. With Sano, you get what you see; tons of elite power potential as a 30-homer candidate but also a lot of swings and misses. He'll kill your average but aid you in power.

Twins | Brian Dozier returns

Wed, 25 May 2016 08:54:19 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier returned to the lineup Wednesday, May 25, and he's hitting second. 3B Trevor Plouffe is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier is struggling with a .211-1-4 line this month. Dillon Gee has a decent 2.90 ERA, but he doesn't strike much fear in the matchup. However, Dozier's struggles put him in a wait-and-see approach in DFS.

Twins | Brian Dozier looking for answers

Tue, 24 May 2016 15:23:27 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier hasn't hit a home run at home this year and hasn't done so since Aug. 15 of last year, a span of 149 at-bats. He's hitting .188 with a .262 on-base percentage in 37 games at Target Field in that span. The Twins are trying to fix Dozier, and despite the fact he has two minor league options left, Minnesota doesn't seem interested in sending him down. Dozier hit several balls hard over the weekend but wasn't rewarded, and his batting average on balls in play dropped to a career-worst .218. His strikeout rate is 16.5%, which is well below his career mark of 19%, and he's swinging at 29.3% of pitches outside the zone. Dozier and the Twins insist his right hamstring isn't the cause of his problems.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier's low BABIP suggests he's in line for positive regression, and home runs are surely to follow. This would be a good time to approach a Dozier owner about buying low, as this could be rock bottom for him in 2016. It's not out of the question to drop him in shallow leagues if he continues to lose playing time to Eduardo Nunez. Everywhere else you should stay patient and bench him for better options.

Twins | Brian Dozier out again

Tue, 24 May 2016 14:52:58 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier is not in the starting lineup for the second straight game Tuesday, May 24. SS Eduardo Nunez is starting at second base again and batting leadoff against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier has shown no signs of life for the first two months other than four home runs and 14 RBI. His slash line of .199/.284/.318 has earned him a seat on the bench the last two nights in favor of the productive Nunez. It's not out of the question to dump Dozier in shallow leagues, but you'll need to keep him benched for other options everywhere else until he can figure something out. Nunez, meanwhile, continues to hit and can provide decent stolen bases numbers for those searching for depth in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Twins | Brian Dozier receives a breather

Mon, 23 May 2016 13:36:14 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 23. SS Eduardo Nunez is starting at second base and is hitting leadoff against Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier (.199-4-14) could certainly use a break to clear his head. He's hitting .211 with nine strikeouts this month and hasn't homered since May 4. If you have better options at second base, you should consider benching him in mixed leagues until he shows life. Nunez continues to hit and is now batting .320 with eight stolen bases in 34 games. He'll lose some playing time with Eduardo Escobar back from the DL, but Nunez remains attractive in deep mixed and AL-only leagues for his high average and speed.

Twins | Brian Dozier leading off vs. Blue Jays

Thu, 19 May 2016 13:54:25 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier is leading off against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada Thursday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier has only hit first once through his past 25 starts. He has posted decent numbers (15 runs, three home runs and 13 RBI) during the span, though. Last year, Dozier hit 22 bombs with a .246/.313/.499 slash line through 457 plate appearances in the leadoff spot. View it as a positive if he sticks atop the lineup going forward.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe, Brian Dozier not 100%

Sun, 15 May 2016 16:23:13 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe and 2B Brian Dozier were out of the lineup Sunday, May 15, because both have been playing at less than 100%, according to manager Paul Molitor.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe and Dozier have started slow this season, but both are worth owning in most mixed leagues. You may want to avoid both them in daily formats until they are healthy and hitting.

Twins | Several MIN regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 15 May 2016 08:18:05 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier, 3B Trevor Plouffe and C Kurt Suzuki are not in the starting lineup against Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer Sunday, May 15. 3B/OF Miguel Sano will play the hot corner and bat third, INF Jorge Polanco will bat sixth and play second base and C Juan Centeno will start behind the plate and bat eighth. In addition, OF Oswaldo Arcia will bat fifth and play right field.

Fantasy Tip: Sano is making his fifth start at third base this season but he has struggled over the last two weeks, batting just .179 with two home runs and four RBI in 39 at-bats. Centeno is making his second consecutive start and is worth considering as a value play in DFS after going 5-for-11 with a home run through his first four games this season. Polanco should be viewed exclusively as a source of desperation cap relief in daily fantasy games.

Twins | Brian Dozier dropped in lineup

Fri, 13 May 2016 12:07:09 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Brian Dozier is hitting sixth in the batting order against Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier has been a disappointment to his fantasy owners while sporting a .222/.305/.376 slash line with four home runs and 14 RBI. However, he's come alive this month and is batting .348 with a long ball. The drop in the lineup hurts his daily value a bit, and he'll be more of a contrarian play there. Keep trotting him out in traditional leagues with him picking up the pace in May.

Twins | Brian Dozier in the lineup vs. Orioles

Mon, 09 May 2016 13:43:21 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier (hamstring) is starting at second base and batting third against Baltimore Orioles SP Tyler Wilson Monday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier hasn't started since Wednesday, May 4, but after pinch hitting Sunday, you can safely return him to your seasonal lineups. In daily contests, view Dozier as a risky option, though. He hasn't started the season strong and owns an underwhleming .220/.309/.385 slash line.
