Diamondbacks | Chris Herrmann hits the DL

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 12:49:47 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C/OF Chris Herrmann (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring on Sunday, July 17, after receiving the results of an MRI. 2B/OF Mike Freeman was recalled from Class AAA Reno in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Herrmann has been playing through his hamstring issue but aggravated it on Friday. Although he is still one of the better fantasy catching options for the season, with his .290 average, six homers and 28 RBI, he has only managed one home run and eight RBI in part-time duty since the start of June, making him even a poor option in two-catcher leagues.

Diamondbacks | Brandon Drury not playing Friday

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 13:41:10 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Brandon Drury is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 15, against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Bud Norris. OF Yasmany Tomas has shifted over to right field, and C Chris Herrmann is in left.

Fantasy Tip: The club would like to get Herrmann some playing time, as he is hitting .291-6-28 with five doubles and four triples. His .511 slugging mark is quite strong. Herrmann merits consideration in DFS leagues, but he does not have a regular spot yet to call his own.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo takes a seat

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 15:12:14 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 6. C Chris Herrmann is doing the catching and is hitting fifth against San Diego Padres SP Colin Rea.

Fantasy Tip: Herrmann has been a pleasant surprise for the Snakes this year, slashing .289/.353/.504 with six home runs and 27 RBI in 135 at-bats. He's a perfect second catcher in two-catcher formats, and he profiles as a decent value selection in DFS tonight against Rea.

Diamondbacks | Chris Herrmann scratched

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 11:37:27 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C/OF Chris Herrmann (hamstring) was scratched from the starting lineup Sunday, July 3, because of a hamstring injury. OF Yasmany Tomas will start in right field, while OF Brandon Drury will start in left field and is batting seventh against San Francisco Giants SP Albert Suarez.

Fantasy Tip: Drury only has five hits in the last eight games and has not recorded an RBI since May 29. Owners should be able to find better options to use in their lineups. Tomas has posted solid numbers this season and should be a starting candidate.

Diamondbacks | Chris Herrmann starting vs. Giants

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 15:29:58 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C/OF Chris Herrmann is starting in right field and batting sixth against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto Friday, July 1. OF Peter O'Brien is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Herrmann is a viable option in deep mixed, two-catcher and NL-only leagues because of his eligibility behind the plate and .286/.350/.508 slash line. The only knock is his lack of playing time (just 141 plate appearances). It's also worth noting, he's a weak daily option against Cueto Friday. While O'Brien has four home runs through his first 18 games this season, he's also 7-for-54, which makes him a tough start in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Diamondbacks | Three D-backs resting Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 09:23:43 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed, C Welington Castillo and OF Peter O'Brien are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 29. 2B Phil Gosselin is starting at second and hitting second, C Chris Herrmann is catching and batting sixth and 3B Brandon Drury is in left field and hitting seventh against Philadelphia Phillies SP Zach Eflin.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the juicy lineup spot, Gosselin is a light-hitting middle infielder that isn't attractive to those playing DFS today. Drury had a hot start to the year but has faded with limited playing time and is a low-end option near the bottom of the order. Herrmann has been a big surprise this year with a .298/.363/.529 slash line, six home runs and 26 RBI. You could do much worse than Herrmann if you're looking for a cheap value pick at catcher in daily games.

Diamondbacks | Jake Lamb back in lineup

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 12:19:18 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb is in the lineup Sunday, June 26, against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis and will bat fourth. OF Rickie Weeks will start in place of Peter O'Brien in left and hit fifth, while C Chris Herrmann will be behind the plate in place of C Welington Castillo and bat sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Lamb plays primarily against right-handers and has been mashing them for the better part of the season, hitting .310 with 12 homers and 39 RBI in 197 at-bats, although he is only 1-for-12 in his career against Bettis. Weeks is 2-for-2 versus the Rockies' right-hander, but he's a risky bet in any format. Herrmann has been exceptional whenever he's received a chance to play this year and makes for a solid DFS play today as well as a great fill-in for any starting fantasy catcher around the league that is getting the day off.

Diamondbacks | Arizona resting two players

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:19:35 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo and SS Nick Ahmed are not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Anderson Friday, June 24. 2B Jean Segura will start at shortstop, while 2B Phil Gosselin will start at second base and is batting fourth. C Chris Herrmann will start at catcher and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Gosselin has been producing at the plate recently and has a .353 batting average and one RBI over the last seven days. He could be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues. Herrmann is hitting .276 in June and should be a starting option in two-catcher leagues and some daily leagues.

Diamondbacks | David Peralta remains sidelined Sunday

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 08:19:30 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (back), INF Jean Segura and C Welington Castillo are not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Zach Eflin Sunday, June 19. INF Phil Gosselin will lead off and play second base, C Chris Herrmann will bat fifth and start behind the plate, OF Brandon Drury will bat seventh and play right field and SS Nick Ahmed will bat eighth and play shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Herrmann and Drury are the best bets for daily fantasy players searching for productive sources of salary cap relief, although both players have struggled recently. Herrmann is batting .282 with six home runs and 23 RBI through 103 at-bats but is just 2-for-11 over the past two weeks. Drury is hitting .270 with eight home runs and 18 RBI through 55 games but has collected only nine hits over his last 53 at-bats (.170), while striking out 18 times.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo, Yasmany Tomas out

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 13:56:18 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo and OF Yasmany Tomas are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 14. C Chris Herrmann is behind the plate and is hitting sixth, while OF Michael Bourn is starting in center field and is batting ninth against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Kenta Maeda.

Fantasy Tip: Herrmann has surprised folks this year in a backup role with a .286 average and six home runs to go with 22 RBI in just 98 at-bats. He has notable pop from the left side and is a sleeper catcher selection in daily setups. Bourn has come back from the dead to provide decent numbers and excellent defense. He loses a lot of DFS luster hitting ninth, however.
