Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure has been seeing snaps with the first-team offense throughout training camp but is expected to be fourth on the depth chart when the season begins. Justin Rogers of MLive.com believes the team is trying to showcase Leshoure to other teams with the hope of working out a trade.
Wed, 23 Jul 2014 19:18:56 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure is currently believed to be the fourth tailback on the club behind RBs Reggie Bush, Joique Bell and Theo Riddick heading into training camp and the preseason, but general manager Martin Mayhew expects Leshoure to compete for snaps. The team will use an offense similar to the New Orleans Saints, and they occasionally used a fourth tailback.
Fantasy Tip: Leshoure has tumbled down the depth chart due to a rash of his own injuries, and the production of others while he was off the field. He appears to be in the plans still, but ever so slightly. From a fantasy perspective, he should be avoided on draft day unless injuries to others dramatically alter things during training camp and the preseason.

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure expects to have a bigger role in the offense than he did last season. Leshoure has altered his diet, arriving at camp leaner, which he feels has given him some extra pop.
Mon, 26 May 2014 06:57:54 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure is hopeful the offseason coaching changes will provide new opportunities in 2014. Leshoure was a healthy scratch 13 times in 2013, after leading the Lions in rushing the prior season. Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi comes from a New Orleans Saints offense that rotated their running backs frequently, which Leshoure noted has him optimistic about his chance to earn playing time.
Fantasy Tip: Just because Leshoure was a healthy scratch 13 times in 2013, doesn't mean the new coaching regime will handle him the same way. Reggie Bush is a perennial injury risk and Joique Bell is already dealing with a knee injury, so Leshoure's path to playing time could be less obstructed than it may appear.

Wed, 16 Oct 2013 15:01:56 -0700
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ribs) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 16. Bell is still dealing with pain and felt a rib "pop" in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns. X-rays on his ribs came back negative. Bell wanted to test his ribs Wednesday and will try using a chest protector in practice Thursday, Oct. 17, and will likely wear it in Week 7 if he plays. If he doesn't play, RB Mikel Leshoure will likely be active and serve as the backup to RB Reggie Bush.
Fantasy Tip: Lower your expectations a bit if Bell plays through the pain. He remains more intriguing in point-per-reception affairs and as a handcuff to oft-injured Bush.
Sun, 06 Oct 2013 17:08:43 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick (concussion) left the Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers due to a concussion, and he was briefly admitted to a local area hospital for evaluation before being released. Riddick was expected to re-join the team for the flight home Sunday, Oct. 6. If he cannot play in Week 6, RB Mikel Leshoure is likely to be active.

Wed, 25 Sep 2013 14:06:19 -0700
Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has made it clear that the organization is not looking to trade RB Mikel Leshoure, despite not using him at all this year. Leshoure is frustrated with his role on the team but isn't requesting a trade at the moment. "It's frustrating, because you know you could be out there to help the team," Leshoure said. "I feel like I'm better than a reserve player, and I have more to give than that, but that's my role now and that's what I'm taking."
Fantasy Tip: Leshoure could become relevant again, but it'll probably take an injury to one or two of the backs above him on the depth chart. Leave him on the waiver wire for now.
Wed, 25 Sep 2013 12:30:25 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure admitted that he is frustrated with his role on the team after being active for the first time in Week 3 but not playing a single snap. "I feel like I could have a better role, definitely," Leshoure said. "Am I upset? It's a little frustrating, like I said before, because I know I could help. But that type of stuff is out of my hands." He stopped short of saying that he'd like to be traded, however.
Fantasy Tip: Leshoure isn't ownable in fantasy circles right now. He's fourth on the depth chart behind Reggie Bush, Joique Bell and Theo Riddick.
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 09:18:53 -0700
The Detroit Lions have received calls from other teams interested in acquiring RB Mikel Leshoure but are hesitant to trade him at this point.
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 15:04:49 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell will slide into the leading running back role if RB Reggie Bush (knee) doesn't play in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins. Rookie RB Theo Riddick could then leapfrog RB Mikel Leshoure to be Bell's primary backup. Riddick was the third back in each of the team's first two games while Leshoure was a healthy inactive. Riddick has an advantage because he provides the team with special teams play. "We drafted Theo to come in and have some of the effect that maybe a Reggie might do," offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. "We were really happy with him doing those things for us in the preseason. If he were called upon, we have all the confidence in the world that he can help us." Riddick doesn't have a touch this year, but he has experience playing in the slot in college.
Fantasy Tip: It wouldn't be wise to start Riddick on blind hope before knowing that Bush is ruled out. Even then, he may not see enough action to justify a starting spot. Leshoure can probably be dropped for now in favor of Riddick, though.

The Detroit Lions have declared DL Nick Fairley, RB Mikel Leshoure, WR Ryan Broyles, OT Jason Fox, FS Don Carey, QB Kellen Moore and OG Leroy Harris inactive for Week 2.

The Detroit Lions have declared DL Devin Taylor, CB Jonte Green, QB Kellen Moore, OT LaAdrian Waddle, OG Leroy Harris, RB Mikel Leshoure, WR Ryan Broyles inactive for Week 1.
Sun, 08 Sep 2013 08:42:20 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) and RB Mikel Leshoure are both inactive for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Fantasy Tip: Broyles needs to be owned in all leagues despite being inactive. He should be a valuable weapon for Matthew Stafford when he's on the field and makes for a good WR depth piece. Leshoure is a healthy inactive, which confirms that Joique Bell is the better back to own if you're handcuffing Reggie Bush.
Fri, 23 Aug 2013 13:12:56 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell had 101 yards of total offense on seven touches in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 22, playing mostly in the second half. ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert clearly thinks Bell has the upper hand on the No. 2 running back job over RB Mikel Leshoure.
Fantasy Tip: Bell is a more versatile back than Leshoure, and he likely fits the Lions' dynamic offense better. Take his stat line in the second half of the preseason with a grain of salt, though. If you're targeting a handcuff to Reggie Bush, Bell looks like your guy.
Fri, 16 Aug 2013 07:40:43 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure received one carry in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 15.
Fantasy Tip: Joique Bell is clearly ahead of him on the depth chart, and Leshoure doesn't even make a good handcuff right now.
Tue, 06 Aug 2013 21:54:42 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (Achilles', hamstring) said Tuesday, Aug. 6, that he didn't have burst, but it had nothing to do with his Achilles' injury from 2011. He suffered a hamstring injury toward the end of the Week 3 game last year, and it lingered with him all season. He is confident his legs are back, and he is out to prove why the team invested a second-round pick on him back in 2011. "I feel lighter and feel a little more of a burst," Leshoure said. "I don't know if that's from the weight (he's dropped five pounds and is currently at 229 pounds) or the fact it's a year under my belt and I have my legs back."
Fantasy Tip: Leshoure can be a No. 1 tailback in the NFL, but injuries have kept him off the field or limited his productivity. He is behind Reggie Bush on the depth chart, and he'll have to contend with Joique Bell for touches, but if things break a certain way, Leshoure could be a very nice sleeper for fantasy owners who are picking him with an average draft position in the 11th or 12th round.
Thu, 06 Jun 2013 12:08:04 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) was able to have limited participation during organized team activities Monday, June 4. He said he is trying to manage his lingering hamstring injury in hopes of being 100 percent once training camp begins.
Wed, 29 May 2013 12:50:32 -0700
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said he does not think RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) is dealing with a long-term injury. Schwartz said the team is taking a cautious approach with Leshoure because they do not want him to rush him back.
Wed, 29 May 2013 11:41:52 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring) did not participate in organized team activities Wednesday, May 29, because of a lingering hamstring injury. Head coach Jim Schwartz did not express a lot of concern about the injury but said the injury has taken longer to heal than the team expected.
Fantasy Tip: The team is taking their time with Leshoure's injury because it could continue to linger if it does not heal properly. Leshoure is expected to be the team's primary backup running back this season and could see time near the goal line.
Wed, 22 May 2013 11:46:12 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (undisclosed) was limited to individual drills during organized team activities Wednesday, May 22, because of an undisclosed injury.
Fantasy Tip: Leshoure will be used as a change-of-pace back to Reggie Bush and likely will receive carries near the goal line and when Bush needs to rest. He could be an option in later rounds of fantasy drafts.
Fri, 17 May 2013 10:01:45 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush is comfortable in the team's offense, and he's comparing it to the days when he was with the New Orleans Saints. "I've always enjoyed being in the position that I am and doing what I do, being able to split out wide and catch balls so it's great that offenses are going toward that direction," Bush said.
Fantasy Tip: Now that he should be effectively used in the passing attack, Bush could approach RB1 levels in point-per-reception leagues. He proved in Miami that he can be a primary back, too, so Detroit will likely use him as such and leave the short-yardage situations to Mikel Leshoure.
Thu, 09 May 2013 11:28:41 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure faced an eight-man defensive front in only 6.05 percent of his carries last season, which is less than any other rusher with at least 100 carries.
Fantasy Tip: Leshoure did not have a lot of big plays in 2012, which is why the team added Reggie Bush in free agency. Leshoure is still valuable because he probably will receive some carries during games while Bush rests as well as near the goal line. Bush has dealt with injuries in the past, so Leshoure could get a bigger role as the season goes on.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 11:07:22 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said all three of the teams running backs, Reggie Bush, Mikel Leshoure, and Joique Bell, will have a role in 2013. "Joique runs the ball a little bit different than Mikel, but they both run a little bit different and present different things than Reggie, and I think that combination of guys is good. People like to say running back by committee and things like that, but each guy will have a role. There will be plenty of touches on the offense for everybody."
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 10:59:22 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said he has confidence in RB's Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell. "We have a lot of confidence in both of those guys (Bell and Leshoure)," Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said. "Both of those guys are going to be good players that we continue to move forward with, and they all have unique skill sets.

Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (calf) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 19.
Mon, 17 Dec 2012 19:23:31 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure has scored eight touchdowns on 185 carries, but he has by far the most rushes of any NFL runner without a single carry of at least 20 yards.
Sun, 16 Dec 2012 18:15:36 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure carried 14 times for 55 yards and a touchdown in the Week 15 loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Leshoure has eight rushing touchdowns, the most since RB Kevin Smith had eight in 2008.
Tue, 11 Dec 2012 16:06:16 -0800
Detroit Lions RBs Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell split the running load pretty evenly in their Week 14 game against the Green Bay Packers. Leshoure had 14 carries and Bell carried the ball 12 times. However, Bell played more snaps (43) than Leshoure (31). Both runners were equally effective; Leshoure had effective runs on seven of his 14 tries, and Bell was efficient on six of his 12 carries, with an efficient run being a carry for four or more yards on first down, half the remaining distance on second down or picking up a first down on third or fourth down. Bell had 19 yards after contact and Leshoure gained 14. Leshoure showed he continues to be indecisive in the backfield, which hurts his momentum as he hits holes. Bell is running with more authority and is more of the total package, but his lack of top-end speed and strength makes him more of a complementary back.
Fri, 07 Dec 2012 09:35:13 -0800
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said RB Joique Bell will continue to see more touches to infuse some life into the running game. Bell has all three of the team's runs for over 20 yards this season, and he's averaging 5.7 yards per carry. RB Mikel Leshoure had 84 yards and a touchdown the first time the team played the Green Bay Packers, and they used a lot of two-deep safeties, which gave Leshoure a distinct advantage. Leshoure is averaging 3.8 yards per tote, but leads the team with seven touchdowns. "Him rattling off really the three explosive runs that we've had this year certainly gives him more opportunities I think in our offense, not just in the games," Linehan said of Bell. "I think you'll see him playing a little bit more throughout the game."
Fri, 30 Nov 2012 13:58:31 -0800
Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure (ankle) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 30, and is probable for Week 13.
