Patriots | New England receiving calls on Dion Lewis

Sat, 09 Sep 2017 08:02:59 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has been the focal point of trade conversations with multiple teams since the offseason, according to the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe, who reports some of the discussions occurred as recently as the past week.

Fantasy Tip: Howe notes it has been other teams pursuing Lewis and not the Patriots making the calls. Regardless, he was limited to six snaps in the opener and appears to be playing behind Mike Gillislee, James White and Rex Burkhead. Furthermore, D.J. Foster is collecting a $15,000 check on the practice squad, which is more than twice the minimum for practice squad players. Although he has been injury-prone throughout his career, Lewis is a dynamic back who could be a fantasy RB2 in the right situation.

Patriots | James White saw bulk of snaps Thursday

Fri, 08 Sep 2017 09:37:28 -0700

New England Patriots RB James White played in 43 of 81 offensive snaps in a Week 1 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Sept. 7. Mike Gillislee finished second on the team with 24, Rex Burkhead had 10 and Dion Lewis tallied six.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots' committee backfield remained very much intact in the opener, although Gillislee certainly appears to have the edge at the goal line, as expected. Burkhead got the start, but it was White who saw the most playing time - primarily as when the Patriots used tempo. For now, Gillislee has the look of a volatile RB3/flex option who will pile up short-yardage scores when given the opportunity, while White is also a flex play in PPR. The other two backs are complete dart throws at the moment.

Patriots | No depth chart at RB in New England

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 09:26:05 -0700

New England Patriots RBs Mike Gillislee, Rex Burkhead, James White and Dion Lewis form a "deep, talented group" and any one of the four could be featured at any given time, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee, who was expected to be the early-down and goal-line back in New England this year, has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury, giving Burkhead time to shine. White is locked into a passing-game role, while Lewis figures to contribute in just about every way possible on offense and special teams. Owners may be able to hit big on occasion in this backfield on a weekly basis, but all of them will be hard to trust as anything more than flex options.

Patriots | James White, Dion Lewis co-starters

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 14:38:02 -0700

New England Patriots RBs James White and Dion Lewis are listed as co-starters on the Patriots' initial depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Take this one with a grain of salt, a sizable grain of salt. The Patriots backfield is stacked, but White and Lewis are both passing-down, change-of-pace backs. Mike Gillislee is expected to be the actual runner, particularly in goal-line and short-yardage situations.

Patriots | Dion Lewis, James White listed on first-team

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 11:20:21 -0700

New England Patriots RBs Dion Lewis and James White are ahead of Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee on the team's unofficial depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Unofficial depth charts in early August before even one preseason game has been played are usually pretty meaningless, but Gillislee on the third team is notable, even if he has been sidelined for approximately a week due to a hamstring injury. Lewis and White have been with the team longer than Burkhead, which likely explains why they "rank" higher. Burkhead is still the player to target here if Gillislee can't get healthy soon. White is a RB3 in PPR, while Lewis is worthy of a bench spot in fantasy.

Patriots | Dion Lewis could see limited snaps

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 14:59:12 -0700

The New England Patriots could consider limiting RB Dion Lewis' regular season snaps in order to keep him healthy for all 16 games, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis should be part of a committee at running back this season and probably will be used as a change of pace back. He was limited to 298 rushing yards and 94 receiving yards in 2016 because he only played in seven games. Owners in most leagues can consider Lewis a late-round option that could be used as a flex option against certain opponents.

Patriots | Dion Lewis' roster spot likely safe

Sun, 28 May 2017 08:08:36 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis still has a spot on the club despite the additions of Mike Gillislee and Rex Burkhead this offseason, likely as a kickoff returner and reserve running back who will play 15 to 20 snaps per game, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis showed off his trademark burst in OTAs per Reiss, who believes the team will "carefully manage" the injury-prone running back. James White is the favorite to remain the team's primary passing-down back, leaving Lewis' owners in a tough spot. Consider White a solid mid-round option in PPR leagues and Lewis more of a late-round gamble.

Patriots | Dion Lewis hurt his hamstring

Mon, 06 Feb 2017 05:21:38 -0800

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (hamstring) injured his hamstring late in Super Bowl LI. Lewis said the injury didn't seem severe.

Fantasy Tip: After James White's historic performance, it's worth pondering if he has leapfrogged Lewis. Both are comparable backs, but White is two years younger with less injury baggage. If Lewis lands elsewhere, he could be a decent RB2 in PPR leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis goes down

Sun, 05 Feb 2017 19:19:39 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) appeared to injure his knee against the Atlanta Falcons on the final play of regulation in Super Bowl LI Sunday, Feb. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis missed a good portion of the season while recovering from a knee injury, and a serious injury at this point would put at least a portion of his 2017 season in jeopardy. Stay tuned for updates.

Patriots | New England undefeated with Dion Lewis

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 15:23:11 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has missed 14 games as a Patriot the last two seasons, but the Patriots are 16-0 in games in which Lewis has been active.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has been dynamic for the Pats when he has played. The undefeated record with Lewis is no fluke. He and LeGarrette Blount proved to be a solid 1-2 punch for New England this season in the seven games Lewis was a part of. Look for the shifty running back to be utilized in space against the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl. Lewis will be a PPR sleeper if he remains healthy this offseason.

Patriots | Patriots are 16-0 when Dion Lewis plays

Mon, 30 Jan 2017 21:15:14 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has never been part of losing effort since joining the club in 2015. In fact, in 16 total games, including the postseason, the Patriots are a perfect 16-0 when Lewis suits up.

Fantasy Tip: It's a pretty cool stat to think about, although it's probably more coincidental than anything else. Regardless, Lewis has shown he can be a huge factor in any given contest, and while his usage declined in the AFC Championship Game compared to New England's Divisional Round affair, it's still very possible he makes a considerable impact in what should likely be a high-scoring Super Bowl 51.

Patriots | Dion Lewis a non-factor

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 19:22:33 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushed six times for 11 yards and caught two passes for eight yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 22.

Fantasy Tip: After a three-touchdown effort a week ago, Lewis was barely part of the game plan. The Patriots have him under contract in 2017; he's a sound PPR target as a weekly flex consideration.

Patriots | Dion Lewis does it all

Sat, 14 Jan 2017 20:46:20 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis had 13 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown, two catches for 23 yards and a touchdown and returned a kickoff for a touchdown in a 34-16 win over the Houston Texans Saturday, Jan. 14, becoming the first player in postseason history to have a rushing, receiving and return touchdown in the same game.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis didn't have a touchdown during the regular season, but now that he is healthy, his versatility and upside are on full display.

Patriots | Dion Lewis back at practice

Thu, 29 Dec 2016 08:27:46 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (illness) returned to practice Thursday, Dec. 29.

Fantasy Tip: The Miami Dolphins pose a good matchup for Lewis, who has averaged 17 carries the last two weeks. He's not catching the ball as much as you'd like, but he's a low-end RB2 this week.

Patriots | No practice for Dion Lewis

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 14:06:19 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (illness) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis should be able to play in Week 17 as long as he can recover from his illness. He has been more involved in the running game over the last few weeks and has at least 50 yards in the last two games. He should have a similar role this week and can be a flex option in some leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis leads team in rushing

Sat, 24 Dec 2016 13:48:33 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushed for 52 yards on 16 carries against the New York Jets in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis received a lot of carries because the team had a big lead in the second half and ran the ball a lot. It is not known how much playing time he will receive in Week 17 but could be a flex option in some leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis gets it going

Mon, 19 Dec 2016 05:22:41 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushed 18 times for 95 yards and caught two passes for nine yards Sunday, Dec. 18, against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: It's the most action he has seen all year as he and LeGarrette Blount split the carries down the middle. Lewis becomes the back with the most upside for the Pats in fantasy, but Blount should continue to see RB2 value with his 15 touchdowns.

Patriots | Three Patriots RBs split snaps evenly

Mon, 28 Nov 2016 16:22:57 -0800

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount received 27 snaps during the team's Week 12 game, while RB James White received 26 snaps and RB Dion Lewis received 23 snaps. The Patriots ran three plays with White and Lewis on the field at the same time.

Fantasy Tip: Blount received the most carries against the New York Jets and probably will continue to be the main running option moving forward. Lewis received six carries and caught four passes, while White caught four passes and received zero carries. Blount should be considered a No. 2 running back in most leagues but will not be as valuable in point-per-reception leagues. Lewis and White should be flex options for most owners.

Patriots | Eight touches for Dion Lewis

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 22:23:07 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis rushed five times for 23 yards in the Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers. He also added three grabs for 26 yards on five targets.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis is worth adding in deeper PPR leagues, as it appears the team will try and get him involved in the offense. He and James White will fight for scraps behind LeGarrette Blount.

Patriots | Dion Lewis active for Week 11

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 12:28:19 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis is officially active for the team's Week 11 game.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis will be playing his first game of the season and probably will have a limited role against the San Francisco 49ers. Owners may want to see him play in a game before considering him for their lineups, but he should have value late in the season.

Patriots | Dion Lewis travels with team

Sat, 19 Nov 2016 09:25:19 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) traveled with the team for their Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: There is a solid chance that Lewis will be active for the game, but he probably will see limited playing time since he has missed the first 10 weeks of the season. Owners may want to avoid Lewis this week, but he should be a starting option over the last six weeks of the season.

Patriots | Dion Lewis appears to be fully healthy

Mon, 14 Nov 2016 10:21:59 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis was inactive for the team's Week 10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but head coach Bill Belichick indicated during a conference call Monday, Nov. 14, that Lewis is fully healthy after undergoing two knee surgeries since November of 2015. "We didn't activate him (off the Physically Unable to Perform list) until Saturday, but he wouldn't have been on the injury report. When a player hasn't played for a year, they haven't played for a year," Belichick said.

Fantasy Tip: The writer poses an interesting "guess" and suggests Belichick did not want to use yesterday's game - which figured to be a tight game against a quality opponent - to break Lewis in, but rather Week 11 against the one-win San Francisco 49ers - an opponent against whom the Patriots should control game script and score. Expect several updates in the coming days, but it makes sense Belichick would use a game against San Francisco to ease in Lewis.

Patriots | Dion Lewis' status for Week 10 uncertain

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 09:34:03 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) has been medically cleared to play but it remains uncertain whether he will be active for Week 10's game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Lewis is active for the Sunday night game, he is unlikely to play an important role in the offense, with both LeGarrette Blount and James White currently ahead of him on the depth chart. Avoid using Lewis in all formats this week.

Patriots | Dion Lewis activated

Sat, 12 Nov 2016 13:20:44 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis' return isn't likely to have a big impact in Week 10. However, it could spell a portion of doom for LeGarrette Blount owners. Lewis is sure to cut into Blount's impressive work, but both should remain RB2-worthy. James White's role is sure to be negatively impacted, too, but he remains a flex option this week while Lewis is expected to have restrictions.

Patriots | Dion Lewis 'nasty' in practice

Sat, 12 Nov 2016 10:53:45 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) has yet to be cleared for Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks, but at least one teammate isn't doing anything to stop the hype surrounding what most expect to be his season debut. "He's nasty in the open field. It doesn't make any sense," said running back LeGarrette Blount, who also added Lewis has been so electric in the open field during practice that he is an unfair matchup for opposing safeties.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots need to make a decision Saturday afternoon if they want Lewis active for Week 10 and the team is almost certain to limit his touches even if he does play, especially with James White filling his role so well. With that said, Lewis is a true difference-maker and it doesn't figure to take very long before he's the best New England back to own in fantasy. Owners should keep him benched this week unless they are truly desperate at running back, but he could easily be a second-half fantasy stud.

Patriots | Dion Lewis back in Week 10?

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 18:50:32 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) could make his season debut in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: While a definite return date has yet to be determined, Lewis should be stashed in all formats. Once he is back at full strength, he has RB2 potential in PPR formats.

Patriots | Dion Lewis on the field

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 10:04:54 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) is participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots will have a few weeks to activate Lewis from the Physically Unable to Perform list, so he probably will not be rushed back to the lineup. He should be used as more of a receiver out of the backfield when he returns and will be a valuable fantasy option. Owners should look to add Lewis if he is available in their leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis to begin practicing

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 06:07:36 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) will begin practicing this week, and the team will have 21 days to activate him.

Fantasy Tip: He'll probably need a couple of weeks, but he should be stashed in your league. If by chance he's floating on waivers, grab and stash him.

Patriots | Dion Lewis' return not imminent?

Fri, 21 Oct 2016 10:50:25 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) was eligible to practice this week but did not, and the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe speculates "it's certainly possible Lewis' return isn't imminent".

Fantasy Tip: Lewis was always best viewed as a lottery ticket for owners with hopes of getting a second-half jolt, and the expectation has long been he could return after the team's Week 9 bye. That is still possible, although it is far from a given. This drama could go on for a little while longer, and New England could still end up ruling him out for the season. Owners in deep leagues should continue to hold, but those in shallow leagues without an IR spot may need to cut bait during the bye-week crunch.

Patriots | Dion Lewis unlikely to practice this week

Tue, 18 Oct 2016 09:51:17 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) "probably" will not practice this week, according to head coach Bill Belichick.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis is officially eligible to return to practice this week, but James White has performed admirably in his stead as the main passing-down back, so Belichick is probably willing to play this thing out a bit longer. Every indication so far out of New England is that the Patriots are treating Lewis with kid gloves, so a return after the team's Week 9 bye seems likely. Lewis is very much a stash-worthy player for owners hoping a boost right before the fantasy playoffs.

Patriots | Dion Lewis placed on PUP list

Tue, 30 Aug 2016 14:27:20 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) was officially placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 30. He will miss at least the first six weeks of the season.

Fantasy Tip: LeGarrette Blount and James White will likely comprise a two-headed monster in New England's backfield, at least to start the season. White will presumably take over Lewis's role in the passing game and should be viewed as an RB3 at worst in PPR leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis expected to miss two months

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 10:52:14 -0700

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) is expected to miss two months because of his second knee surgery and likely will start the 2016 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis will not be back on the field until late October at the earliest, so owners should drop him on their draft boards. Lewis could still be a late-round option in leagues, but owners will need to stash him on the bench. James White should fill Lewis' role on offense and likely will be a middle- to late-round option in fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis may play in 2016

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 10:04:37 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) is expected to have a chance to play in 2016 even though he will need to undergo another surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to look for a possible timetable after Lewis undergoes surgery. He likely will stay on the Physically Unable to Perform list and miss the first weeks of the season, but it is not known how long his rehab will be. Owners could consider using a later pick on Lewis and wait for him to return. James White should be more involved in the passing game and can be a middle- to late-round pick in drafts.

Patriots | Dion Lewis needs another surgery

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 09:42:35 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) will need to undergo another surgery on his knee, according to a source. There is no timetable for his return. Lewis originally tore his anterior cruciate ligament in November.

Fantasy Tip: It seems that Lewis likely will start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list and will miss at least the first six weeks of the season, which really hurts his fantasy value. James White likely will take over as the receiving option at running back and could be a middle-round option in point-per-reception leagues. White should also be considered as a No. 3 or No. 4 running back in standard leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis may start on PUP list

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 08:08:59 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) could start the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list if he is not able to participate in practice this week, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. Lewis is doing well in his recovery but has not practiced since the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis is coming back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, so the Patriots may want to give him more time to recover before he plays again. Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation because Lewis could be a low-end No. 2 or solid No. 3 running back if he is ready Week 1. LeGarrette Blount and James White would receive a boost in value if Lewis misses the first six weeks.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount battling Tyler Gaffney?

Fri, 19 Aug 2016 10:42:01 -0700

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount is "likely" battling RB Tyler Gaffney the club's final running back spot. RBs Dion Lewis and James White "appear to be locked in" as the receiving running backs, while RB Brandon Bolden "figures" to have a spot on the roster thanks to his role on special teams. Blount and Gaffney are competing for the "between-the-tackles kind of role."

Fantasy Tip: Due to Blount's proven track record, you have to believe he has the leg up in this competition, though it's also interesting that Gaffney was able to take an entire series worth of carries in the first half of New England's most recent preseason game with the first-team offense. No matter who emerges from this battle, though, they may not hold much fantasy value, given the amount of pieces regularly being used out of the Patriots backfield, as well as Bill Belichick's sometimes unpredictable use of his running backs.

Patriots | Dion Lewis remains out

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 06:02:59 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) has yet to practice in training camp. Lewis is nine months removed from surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament and has continued to rehab.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis took part in OTAs in June, and there's no word of a setback. Agility is a big part of his game, and he still has the potential to be an RB2 in fantasy. However, with the way New England spreads the ball around based on matchups, he could slip into the RB3 area if he's out much longer.

Patriots | Dion Lewis thinks he can practice

Sat, 06 Aug 2016 06:26:00 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) believes he can practice right now, but the Patriots are taking things slow. It is not known if Lewis will start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list but it appears unlikely at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis may not receive a lot of work during the preseason but should have a solid role on offense when he is healthy. He should be considered a solid No. 2 running back in point-per-reception leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis may open season on PUP list

Fri, 05 Aug 2016 10:04:22 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) might open up the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis, of course, suffered a torn ACL midway through last season as he was enjoying a breakout campaign, and unfortunately, it appears he's still hampered by it. It's also still possible he plays in Week 1, but owners need to keep an eye on this, as beginning the year on the PUP list would cost him the first six weeks. James White and Brandon Bolden would each receive boosts if Lewis remains sidelined.

Patriots | No setbacks for Dion Lewis

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 11:16:06 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) has not suffered any setbacks in his surgically repaired knee so far this offseason. The Patriots won't push him to return to action, though.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis will probably take it easy leading up to the regular season. New England is good about not taking any unnecessary risks, except for when it comes to air pressure in footballs, of course. If Lewis is at full health before the season starts, he'll be a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 consideration in PPR formats.

Patriots | Three notable Pats put on PUP list

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 16:13:35 -0700

New England Patriots WRs Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) and Julian Edelman (foot) and RB Dion Lewis (knee) were all placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola has had trouble staying on the field throughout his career and is an untrustworthy fantasy football commodity. Leave him to the waiver wire in standard leagues. Keep an eye on Edelman's progress this fall, but if he's ready for Week 1, he should be firmly in WR2 territory with more intrigue in PPR leagues. Despite a strong season for Lewis in 2015 before his injury, his injury makes him extremely risky. Not to mention the fact he's never had more than 50 carries in a season in the NFL. He's running back depth in deeper leagues and could be a flex option in certain weeks in PPR formats.

Patriots | No brace for Dion Lewis

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 11:51:37 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) practiced Monday, June 13, without a brace on his left knee. Lewis said he feels better every day but that he still has a long way to go in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis was a PPR monster before suffering the injury last year. If he can return to full health then he'll be worth a look as a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 in PPR leagues.

Patriots | Dion Lewis back at practice

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 09:34:45 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) is back at practice for the first time Monday, June 13. Lewis is recovering from November surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis will likely be overvalued in drafts this fall because he's essentially New England's No. 1 running back. But keep in mind he probably won't be 100% by the time Week 1 kicks off, and he had just 234 rushing yards on 49 carries for two touchdowns in his first season with the Pats. Lewis is surely more valuable in PPR formats (36 catches for 388 yards), but be careful not to reach for him given his injury and the uncertainty that allows accompanies a New England backfield.

Patriots | Dion Lewis says rehab going well

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 08:07:45 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) said the rehab from his torn anterior cruciate ligament is going well and that he is doing what the trainers are allowing him to do. Lewis has not participated in offseason workouts and probably will miss the upcoming minicamp as well.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis may be limited during training camp but it is believed that should be ready for the start of the regular season. He should receive solid playing time in 2016 and will be used as a receiver out of the backfield. Lewis should be selected in all drafts but will have more value in point-per-reception leagues.

Patriots | Key Patriots absent Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 15:17:29 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot), RB LeGarrette Blount (knee), RB Dion Lewis (knee), WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) and TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots are infamous for their vague injury reports and resting of players. Obviously they're going to take caution with the players listed above, though. As long as none of these guys suffer any setbacks this offseason, they should be good to go for the start of the regular season. Edelman and Gronk should both be viewed as fantasy starters at their respective positions, with more value in PPR formats. Lewis is an RB2 candidate in PPR formats if he can stay healthy, while Blount has RB3 potential if he, too, can keep his health. Amendola is the biggest injury risk; he shouldn't be viewed as more than a low-end WR4 to high-end WR5.

Patriots | Dion Lewis optimistic for Week 1

Tue, 24 May 2016 08:30:41 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) has given signs of optimism for being ready for the start of the season. Some close to Lewis feel that he's about a month away from being able to play in a game. The team plans to be conservative with him, and his repetitions in organized team activities will be limited at best.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis emerged as a PPR gem before going down with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. However, he only rushed 10 times in a game once last season. So don't overvalue him. He's a solid RB3 if he doesn't have any setbacks.

Patriots | Dion Lewis recovering well

Sun, 21 Feb 2016 12:16:13 -0800

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis' (knee) recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament has impressed well-known surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery on Lewis late last year. When Lewis visited Andrews in January, things were exactly where they should be, if not better. Lewis will gradually work his way back this offseason, but the Patriots anticipate him being ready for the start of the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis took the NFL by storm last season before suffering the torn ACL. He was a No. 1 fantasy running back, too, averaging 17.5 fantasy points per game through seven games in PPR leagues. The Patriots' backfield will likely look a little different next season, but Lewis is still worth a shot as at least a RB2 if he's at full health.

Patriots | New England likely to add at RB

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 21:06:41 -0800

New England Patriots RB James White played 57 of the 83 offensive snaps in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 24, and RB Brandon Bolden played 16. RB Steven Jackson rounded things out with 11 snaps. The team will also get RB Dion Lewis (knee) back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in 2016, while RB LeGarrette Blount is an impending free agent. The team might face an offseason similar to 2011 when the selected a pair of backs in the NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis has the potential to be the top running back with this current group, with White and Bolden as solid backups. However, look for a rookie, and possibly a veteran running back, to be added in the offseason to provide competition.

Patriots | LeGarrette Blount staying with Patriots?

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 13:50:08 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount could be on his way out of New England as he enters free agency this offseason. RB Dion Lewis (knee) will return from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and RB James White filled in nicely for Lewis. The Patriots also have another big back on their roster in RB Steven Jackson, putting Blount's future with New England in limbo.

Fantasy Tip: Gone are the days of Blount rushing for hundreds of yards and multiple touchdowns. The Patriots do need a ground-and-pound type of running back, but Blount may not be the answer for the future. This situation will play out over the course of the next few months, but Blount may be heading for fantasy irrelevancy.
