Falcons | Want power ground game

Tue, 26 Aug 2014 19:30:41 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers was stopped on a fourth-and-1 run during the team's third preseason game, and heading into the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 28, head coach Mike Smith said he wants to emphasize being able to run the ball effectively in obvious running situations.

Fantasy Tip: If Smith sticks to that plan during the year, it could lead to more chances for Steven Jackson around the goal line. Jackson is a risky pick because of all his recent injury issues, but if healthy, he will have a big role in the offense and RB2 upside. Consider scooping him up as a third running back if the injury concerns cause him to slide in your draft.

Falcons | Steven Jackson has hammy issue

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 15:16:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) injured his hamstring Monday, July 28, which is why he wasn't practicing Tuesday, July 29. Head coach Mike Smith said Jackson will be ready for the team's first game.

Fantasy Tip: This is not what you want to see from an aging running back entering his age-31 season. Jacquizz Rodgers and Devonta Freeman could have heavy workloads if S-Jax continues to be bugged by nagging injuries all year long.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman could push Steven Jackson for PT

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 23:35:52 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman will be groomed into the team's three-down back of the future, and he might battle RB Steven Jackson for playing time this year if he continues to look good. The battle for the third running back will be between RBs Antone Smith and Jacquizz Rodgers.

Falcons | Mike Smith believes in Steven Jackson

Fri, 28 Mar 2014 11:08:57 -0700

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith is optimistic that RB Steven Jackson will bounce back from a disappointing 2013 season in which he played in only 12 games due to a hamstring injury and averaged a career-low 3.5 yards per carry. Jackson finished the year with six touchdowns in the final six games, however. Atlanta uses a committee at running back with Jackson and RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson has always been injury-prone, and now that he's on the wrong side of 30, that'll become more of an issue. More usage of Rodgers and Smith would be wise if the Falcons want to keep S-Jax healthy over the full season. His numbers from last year should be what you should expect moving forward, especially in a committee backfield.

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 25, and is probable for Week 8.

Falcons | Steven Jackson practices

Wed, 23 Oct 2013 11:15:09 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, but he'll need to make it through practice this week without a setback in order to start in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals. RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling have combined for 319 yards on 93 carries with Jackson out.

Fantasy Tip: Expect to see plenty of Rodgers and Snelling, even if S-Jax suits up. This makes him a risky RB option this weekend.

Falcons | Steven Jackson to miss Week 7

Fri, 18 Oct 2013 12:48:15 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling probably will continue to share snaps at running back but could be more involved in the passing game because of Roddy White's injury. Rodgers and Snelling should be considered as No. 2 running backs or flex options this week.

Falcons | Steven Jackson unlikely this week

Wed, 16 Oct 2013 05:44:59 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) is unlikely to return to action in Week 7.

Falcons | Steven Jackson to miss Week 5

Sat, 05 Oct 2013 09:55:54 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers likely will continue to share playing time at running back with Jackson out. Since neither running back likely will see a majority of the carries, both Snelling and Rodgers should be considered flex options this week.

Falcons | Steven Jackson misses practice

Thu, 03 Oct 2013 14:25:23 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 3. Jackson observed practice in shorts and hasn't practiced since injuring his hamstring in Week 2. However, head coach Mike Smith is optimistic about Jackson, but he won't return to action until he's 100 percent healthy. "We're not going to rule him out at this point in time," Smith said. "He's working hard to get back. And we'll have to see how the rest of the week plays out."

Fantasy Tip: We don't expect S-Jax to be back this weekend, given the fact that Atlanta has their bye in Week 6. It's very realistic for Jackson to return in Week 7, making Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling very short-term values.

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (thigh) was ruled out for the team's Week 3 game, according to head coach Mike Smith.

Falcons | Likely to split RB duties

Tue, 17 Sep 2013 10:30:54 -0700

The Atlanta Falcons are likely to split the running back duties between RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling if RB Steven Jackson (thigh) doesn't play in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins. Rodgers and Snelling ran for a combined 36 yards when Jackson left in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers should be your primary target on the waiver wire if you own Jackson or are hurting at the position. He'll be more valuable than Snelling in point-per-reception formats, too.

Falcons | Steven Jackson may miss 2-4 weeks

Tue, 17 Sep 2013 09:46:50 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (thigh) may miss two to four weeks with a thigh injury. Jackson is listed officially as week-to-week.

Fantasy Tip: If Jackson canít go, Jacquizz Rodgers would likely get the majority of the workload, and is worth an add until Jackson is healthy, especially if you need help at running back. S-Jax is up there in age, too, so his healing process could take longer than expected. At least for this week, consider him unlikely to play.

Falcons | Steven Jackson uncertain for Week 3

Tue, 17 Sep 2013 05:53:56 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (thigh) is uncertain for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: These are the risks you take with Jackson, who has a history of frustrating, minor injuries that have limited him. Jacquizz Rodgers would take his place, with Jason Snelling filling in on the goal line. With Roddy White banged up, this could significantly slow down the Dirty Birds' offense and put more emphasis on stopping Julio Jones.

Falcons | Jason Snelling to see dual role

Mon, 16 Sep 2013 12:46:38 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Jason Snelling will see more time in a dual role of fullback and running back after the team lost FB Bradie Ewing (shoulder) for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Snelling could be a popular waiver wire target this week or in weeks to come if Steven Jackson (thigh) is forced to miss time. However, Jacquizz Rodgers is the better option ahead of Snelling.

Falcons | Jacquizz Rodgers unsure about role

Sun, 23 Jun 2013 18:08:04 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers is uncertain how the carries will be split following the offseason addition of RB Steven Jackson. Last season, free-agent RB Michael Turner (Falcons) handled 66.4 percent of the carries by the team's RBs (222 of 334 carries). Rodgers had 28.4 percent (94 carries), with RB Jason Snelling handling 5.2 percent (18 carries).

Fantasy Tip: The team has big plans for Jackson, but Rodgers plans to learn as much as he can and be ready when his number is called. As far as his fantasy value, he is a decent addition later on draft day, especially in points-per-reception (PPR) leagues.

If need be, we think he can take carries that other guys may get in other games."

Falcons | Taking committee approach at RB

Wed, 28 Nov 2012 16:35:23 -0800

The Atlanta Falcons prefer a committee approach at running back these days between RBs Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers. "We feel like Jacquizz is a very viable option to carry the football and has done a nice job for us," head coach Mike Smith said. "It has become more of the vogue thing to do, to have a 'running back by committee.'" RB Jason Snelling also had three catches for 33 yards in the team's Week 12 victory. Turner is receiving fewer chances to run the ball as the team spreads out the touches. He has had only 62.7 percent of the team's carries this year, by far his lowest total in each of his previous three years. Turner is only averaging 3.5 yards per carry, too, which is on pace for the worst mark of his career.

Falcons | Won't commit to more time for Jacquizz Rodgers

Tue, 13 Nov 2012 18:59:27 -0800

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said Tuesday, Nov. 13, that RB Jacquizz Rodgers has not necessarily earned more carries, but the situation will continue to be reviewed. "Jacquizz did a good job when he was in there," Koetter said. "He touched the ball, but some of that could be luck of the draw. We'll see how it plays out. Touches on this team are always going to be an issue because we have so many good skill guys. One guy's increase in touches is going to come at the expense of another guy. Who is that? That's the million dollar question."

Falcons | Jacquizz Rodgers totals 10 touches

Sun, 30 Sep 2012 16:47:46 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers carried six times for 18 yards in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers, and added four receptions for 40 yards. After seeing just 12 total touches through his first two games, Rodgers has managed a total of 25 touches over the past two weeks.

Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers carried 10 times for 32 yards in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons, and he added five catches for 35 yards and his first career score.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers has the potential to be a big-time fantasy option in future weeks, especially in PPR formats. He hasn't shown a lot of consistency to date, but he is worth stashing away if you can afford the roster spot.

Falcons | Jacquizz Rodgers not very involved

Mon, 17 Sep 2012 21:28:45 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers carried three times for just three yards in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, and he did not haul in any receptions.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers is listed as the No. 2 back for the Falcons, but he is certainly not doing what fantasy owners in PPR leagues had hoped. At this point, he only looks worth keeping as a handcuff for owners of Michael Turner.

Falcons | Jacquizz Rodgers sees nine touches

Sun, 09 Sep 2012 18:41:36 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers carries seven times for 22 yards in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs, and he added two receptions for 13 yards. He had nine touches to 11 for starting RB Michael Turner.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers has plenty of upside, and he is especially intriguing in points-per-reception (PPR) fantasy formats. However, he should only be used in the deepest of leagues heading into Week 2 against the Denver Broncos.
