Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones and Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson battled during their days in college, and Peterson is looking forward to shadowing Jones in Week 13. Jones had three catches (seven targets) and just 33 yards the only time the two matched up in the NFL, back in 2012. "Me feeling I'm the best corner in the league, I want the team's No. 1 receiver, period," Peterson said. "That's where you get the opportunity to gain the respect from your peers and be recognized as one of the best and one of the greats after you are done with the game. That's the kind of pressure I like to have for myself and as a team."
Fantasy Tip: Jones was able to find the end zone against Cleveland Browns corner Joe Haden last week, but Peterson matches up a bit better with Jones' speed and athleticism. At $7,600 at FantasyScore, Jones may find it tough to live up to his Week 13 price.

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate could be blanketed by Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson Sunday, Nov. 16. ESPN analyst Merrill Hoge thinks that Peterson is better suited to cover Tate, while CB Antonio Cromartie covers WR Calvin Johnson.
Fantasy Tip: Tate ($7,000; 14.0% of your cap) has loomed large all season, but this matchup could be difficult. Johnson ($7,900; 15.8%) might make for the better buy on FantasyScore today if this situation holds true.
Wed, 12 Nov 2014 10:50:34 -0800
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson will likely be followed by Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson, one of the top cornerbacks in the league, in Week 11. Johnson has beaten Peterson over the last two years, racking up 16 catches, 237 yards and two touchdowns, but the Cardinals won both of those matchups. "I was disappointed in (my) first half of the season; I believe I wasn't playing to my standards. I was fighting through injuries," Peterson said. "Now that I'm 100 percent, I've turned the corner, and I'm ready to roll from here on out."
Fantasy Tip: Johnson will have his hands full, but he's still a must-start in all fantasy leagues. At FantasyScore, Megatron will cost you $7,900. Spending that much should be easier knowing that Johnson has had the upper hand against Peterson in the past.

Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson has admitted that he needs to start playing better this season. Through five games, he's allowed four touchdowns, including two last week to the Washington Redskins. He's been called for a team-high five penalties. Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles thinks the loss of the team's best pass rushers has put Peterson more on an island in man-press coverage on the outside. "Patrick is one of the reasons we can do a lot of the things we do inside," Bowles said. "So for him to give up a pass or two here and there doesn't mean (he) struggles. It just means we left him out there too long."

Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson will be used strictly on defense this season and will not see time in any offensive situations. The Cardinals have excess capacity at wide receiver this year. Coach Bruce Arians plans on relieving Peterson of his punt return duties.
Fantasy Tip: Peterson's fantasy value will take a hit without the special teams presence, because he has returned punts before this season. However, Peterson claims focusing on his CB duties will make him a better defender, and individual defensive player leagues could see an added boost from Peterson.

Thu, 20 Mar 2014 14:53:34 -0700
The Arizona Cardinals could use CB Antonio Cromartie, who is expected to line up opposite CB Patrick Peterson, to cover opposing tight ends next year. Opposing tight ends accounted for 17 of the 29 touchdowns that Cardinals' opponents scored in 2013. Cromartie, however, lined up in the slot in 16 of 127 career games. CB Jerraud Powers could fill in at nickel and slot until CB Tyrann Mathieu (knee) returns.
Thu, 06 Feb 2014 11:36:12 -0800
ESPN.com's Josh Weinfuss doesn't believe Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson will hold out for a new contract this offseason, as he heads into his fourth and final year of his rookie contract. Peterson said his representatives haven't heard back from the team yet about a new deal. However, Weinfuss says Peterson told him he loves playing football and doesn't like to be away from the field, which means he'd be unlikely to hold out and miss training camp time. Peterson can always play another season and approach a contract extension before the 2015 season, too.

Fri, 27 Dec 2013 11:37:04 -0800
Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson doesn't believe that WR Michael Crabtree is 100 percent healthy after coming off his torn Achilles' tendon, even though Crabtree had 102 yards receiving in Week 16. "He's slowly getting back into the groove, like he's trying to get back in game shape, get back moving the way he used to," Peterson said. "You can tell he doesn't look as comfortable as he did when he was healthy. That's going to come with time." Crabtree had five catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns against Peterson in the first time the two teams faced off last season, and he had eight catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns in the second matchup in 2012.
Fantasy Tip: Crabtree isn't at top speed yet, but that doesn't mean he can't or won't be effective. The prior success against Peterson is a plus, but an back-to-back 100-yard effort is probably unlikely. Consider Crabtree more of a WR3 or flex in Week 17.
Sun, 17 Nov 2013 17:08:49 -0800
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts was targeted just once until the final four minutes in the Week 11 game against the Arizona Cardinals, as he was shadowed by CB Patrick Peterson. Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson will be covered by Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson in Week 2. Johnson had 10 grabs for 121 yards but didn't find the end zone last season against Peterson and the Cardinals. Peterson said he is just focused on limited Johnson from big plays. Johnson had only four catches for 37 yards in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles said Peterson won't be left one-on-one all day against Johnson.
Fantasy Tip: Peterson is one of the better cover corners in the NFL, but the matchup against Megatron shouldn't scare you away from starting Johnson. If last year was any indication, Johnson could easily triumph in the matchup.
