Thu, 23 May 2013 06:54:00 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams admitted he was scared to run the ball last season on his surgically repaired right knee.
Thu, 02 May 2013 18:12:26 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor will compete for playing time this year behind RB Rashard Mendenhall. As The Arizona Republic's Kent Somers suggests, Taylor isn't a very fast running back, but he's elusive and durable. RB Ryan Williams has had serious injuries in each of the last two years.
Fri, 22 Feb 2013 05:21:08 -0800 Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said the team is expecting big things from RB Ryan Williams. "We watched him against Philadelphia," Keim said, "We watched him against New England, his lateral quickness, his natural run skills, his avoidability is something he brings to the table. Plus he's a three-down back. We're expecting big things out of Ryan moving forward."
Tue, 12 Feb 2013 18:06:15 -0800 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee, shoulder) is confident he can make his way back from a second season-ending injury in as many years in the NFL. His rookie season ended when he ruptured his right patella tendon in the preseason, and his second season ended after the fifth game when he suffered a coracoids process fracture to his left shoulder in a game against the St. Louis Rams. He admitted Tuesday, Feb. 12, that he is worried about his spot on the roster. "Who wouldn't?," Williams asked. Fantasy Tip: The good news for Wiiliams is that head coach Bruce Arians is a fellow Virginia Tech alum who is very familiar with what the running back can do when healthy. Williams is also excited that Arians has used a zone blocking scheme, and hopefully will again in Arizona. It is a system Williams has excelled before. If he can get healthy, he might be worth a middle-round pick on Draft Day as a RB3 or flex option. He could be quite a bargain if he can ever play to his potential.
Fri, 18 Jan 2013 17:58:16 -0800 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians is reportedly a big fan of RB Ryan Williams, and he lit up when speaking about the tailback's ability Friday, Jan. 18. Both Arians and Williams are Virginia Tech alumni. Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Arians, the former offensive coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts, plans to ride Williams as his No. 1 back. Williams has had trouble staying healthy, but if he can stay on the field, he might be a Top 20 fantasy option at his position in 2013. At the very least, he'll be a serviceable RB2 or flex option assuming the team doesn't look for help outside of the organization.
Wed, 26 Dec 2012 16:38:59 -0800 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (shoulder) said he's feeling the best he has in two years after rehabbing his shoulder; he will have a follow-up surgery this week. Williams plans to be a full participant for offseason workouts.
Sun, 14 Oct 2012 18:13:09 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB William Powell carried 14 times for a team-high 70 yards in the Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills. He stepped up with RBs Beanie Wells (toe) and Ryan Williams (shoulder), and fellow RB LaRod Stephens-Howling struggling with just 11 carries and 22 yards.
Tue, 09 Oct 2012 20:36:11 -0700 The Arizona Cardinals lost RB Ryan Williams (shoulder) to season-ending Injured Reserve, and there are rumors flying around about potential targets either through free agency or trade. One name that makes sense is New Orleans Saints RB Chris Ivory through trade, or former Cardinals RB and current free-agent Tim Hightower (Redskins). However, the latter is unlikely, as he is still not all the way back from a knee issue.
Tue, 09 Oct 2012 10:07:15 -0700 The Arizona Cardinals placed RB Ryan Williams (shoulder) on the Injured Reserve Tuesday, Oct. 9, and signed free-agent CB Crezdon Butler (Redskins) in a corresponding move.
Mon, 08 Oct 2012 12:33:29 -0700 Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said RB Ryan Williams (shoulder) will need three months to recover from the surgery he will have on his shoulder. Whisenhunt did not go into detail about the specifics of the injury.
Mon, 08 Oct 2012 11:46:01 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (shoulder) will miss the rest of the year with a shoulder issue that will require surgery. Fantasy Tip: Look for LaRod Stephens-Howling to step in with an increased role, and for William Powell and Alfonso Smith to be options as well for the Cardinals. Stephens-Howling should be your first target if you were a Williams owner and need a RB.
Thu, 04 Oct 2012 22:23:49 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (shoulder) said he has a sore left shoulder but is fine and was ready to return to the team's Week 5 game against the St. Louis Rams.

Mon, 01 Oct 2012 12:24:04 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB William Powell received more playing time in Week 4 than RB Ryan Williams because the team used the no-huddle offense at times during the game. "I haven't really been playing fast and instinctively like I want to, because as soon as some contact comes, sometimes the first thing I think about is 'Is my leg going to be OK?'," Williams said. It was a rough week for Williams, who had a fumble in Week 2 which nearly cost the team in its upset of the New England Patriots. Then, Monday, Sept. 17, Williams found out his grandfather passed away.

Sun, 09 Sep 2012 22:31:51 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) was given the nod to start in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks over RB Beanie Wells (hamstring). Neither did much of anything, as Williams was stuffed for nine yards on eight carries, and he lost a fumble. Wells had 14 yards on seven runs. WR Andre Roberts actually led the team in rushing yards with his lone end-around carry for 15 yards, and RB LaRod Stephens-Howling scored the only rushing touchdown on a 1-yard plunge in the second quarter.

"I haven't had this feeling in a long time."

Sun, 05 Aug 2012 20:44:26 -0700 With Arizona Cardinals RBs Beanie Wells (knee) and Ryan Williams (knee) sidelined for the Hall of Fame preseason game Sunday, Aug. 5, against the New Orleans Saints, RB Alfonso Smith took advantage of the extra work. He impressed with eight carries for 46 yards and a rushing touchdown. Smith is in the mix for the No. 3 tailback job. His competition for the job, RB LaRod Stephens-Howling, posted 25 rushing yards on four carries. William Powell had 10 carries, but he managed just 31 yards. He also had three grabs for 26 yards.
Fri, 03 Aug 2012 10:11:10 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) said he will not play in the first preseason game because he does not think the risk is worth it to play while rehabbing his knee. He said there is a chance he plays in the second preseason game.
Wed, 01 Aug 2012 15:00:56 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) is expected to be a game-time decision for the first preseason game Sunday, Aug. 5. Williams will tell the team how he feels that day and a decision will be made based on that information.
Sat, 21 Jul 2012 19:22:14 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RBs Beanie Wells (knee) and Ryan Williams (knee) are an important part of the success of the team's offseason, but the team is likely to be very careful with both during the preseason so nothing delays their regular season work.
Thu, 19 Jul 2012 11:15:04 -0700 The Arizona Cardinals likely will be cautious with RBs Beanie Wells (knee) and Ryan Williams (knee) during the preseason because they do not want either to suffer a setback in their recoveries.
Thu, 05 Jul 2012 11:06:34 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) is believed to be on schedule in his rehab and could even be a little ahead of schedule at this point. Fri, 13 Jan 2012 20:53:13 -0800 Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) is on target for training camp, and he is expected to begin jogging soon. The training staff and coaching staff likely won't allow him to take part in anything more than individual drills if he is ready during the organized team activities (OTAs) in the summer. "Next year is going to be a good year," Williams said. "I want to be a fan favorite, I want to be the 'X' factor, and because the coaches expect (so) much from me and they support me so much. It's a great feeling to have the coaches behind you, and when they think highly of you, you don't want to make them think otherwise."

Early indication is that the injury is a ruptured patella tendon, which would require season-ending surgery. Fantasy Tip: The loss of Williams for what appears to be the season gives an immediate boost to running back Beanie Wells, who should now be considered a low-end No. 2 running back. Wells, of course, has his own history with injury problems so he is somewhat of a risky selection. Williams should not be selected in fantasy football drafts this season unless it is a dynasty league and you can afford to stash him for at least a season.
