Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) is on target for training camp, and he is expected to begin jogging soon. The training staff and coaching staff likely won't allow him to take part in anything more than individual drills if he is ready during the organized team activities (OTAs) in the summer. "Next year is going to be a good year," Williams said. "I want to be a fan favorite, I want to be the 'X' factor, and because the coaches expect (so) much from me and they support me so much. It's a great feeling to have the coaches behind you, and when they think highly of you, you don't want to make them think otherwise."

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday, Nov. 21, that the rehab for DL Ryan Williams (knee) is going well, although Whisenhunt didn't want to say Williams would be a certainty for training camp. "We're talking a bunch of months away yet," Whisenhunt said.

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee) suffered an injury to his right knee and leg in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 19. Early indication is that the injury is a ruptured patella tendon, which would require season-ending surgery.

Fantasy Tip: The loss of Williams for what appears to be the season gives an immediate boost to running back Beanie Wells, who should now be considered a low-end No. 2 running back. Wells, of course, has his own history with injury problems so he is somewhat of a risky selection. Williams should not be selected in fantasy football drafts this season unless it is a dynasty league and you can afford to stash him for at least a season.

Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams has been impressive in camp so far, but RB Beanie Wells still projects as the starter. Williams appears to be a better pure runner than Wells. Williams cuts effortlessly at high speeds, while Wells is more of a downhill runner.

Arizona Cardinals rookie RB Ryan Williams enters a loaded backfield, as the team already has RBs Beanie Wells, Tim Hightower and LaRod Stephens-Howling. Hightower's contract has expired, however. "I know it's a crowded backfield, but I will do my best to get on the field and help this team win," Williams said.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said the team did not draft Williams to send a message to the team's other runners, but noted Williams is not a fumbler. Hightower has had fumbling issues. Williams was ranked No. 15 on the team's board, and they went in with the plan to take the best player available.

In regards to Williams' comments about the team telling him they would take him in the second round, Whisenhunt, with a smile, said: "I'm not so sure that's exactly what was said."

Arizona Cardinals rookie RB Ryan Williams said the Cardinals told him they were hopeful he would still be available with their second-round selection. "I'm not sure they told anybody else that....but they were (men) of their word. I really respect that," Williams said after being selected in the second round. Running back was not considered an immediate need for the Cardinals.
