49ers | Coach impressed with Blaine Gabbert

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 12:36:48 -0700

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh likes what he has seen from QB Blaine Gabbert. "Very impressed with Blaine mentally, physically all attributes that you'd like to see in a quarterback," Harbaugh said. "He's been very good, very solid. (He's) picked up everything very quickly. It's going well. Everything is progressing well. I think you'll watch it when you have a chance to see it today and look at it for yourself. In my eye, it looks very good."

49ers | May go with two QBs

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 10:56:50 -0700

The San Francisco 49ers may consider keeping only two quarterbacks on their final roster in order to use the extra roster spot at another position. QBs Blaine Gabbert, Josh X. Johnson, McLeod Bethel-Thompson and Kory Faulkner will compete for the No. 2 quarterback job, but Gabbert likely has an edge since his 2014 salary is fully guaranteed.

49ers | Blaine Gabbert not a lock as backup

Wed, 12 Mar 2014 09:45:23 -0700

San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert won't be a lock to be the backup to QB Colin Kaepernick this year, and ESPN analyst and former general manager Bill Polian doesn't think Gabbert will make the 53-man roster. Head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Trent Baalke like Gabbert, though, and they'll give him a chance. "We thought highly of Blaine as an early entry into the 2011 NFL draft," said Baalke. "He is a high-character individual that will be given every opportunity to develop within our system and we are looking forward to working with him."

Fantasy Tip: Gabbert has shown poor pocket presence in the NFL and also hasn't been able to stay healthy. He wouldn't be a very attractive backup option, even if Kaepernick were injured and missed significant time in 2014.

Jaguars | Chad Henne re-signs

Fri, 07 Mar 2014 10:34:20 -0800

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed QB Chad Henne to an undisclosed two-year deal Friday, March 7.

Fantasy Tip: This won't preclude the Jags from drafting a quarterback with their third overall pick in this year's draft or searching for a capable QB to compete with Henne in free agency, but it makes that need less pressing. Henne returning likely means Blaine Gabbert is done in Jacksonville, however.

Jaguars | Blaine Gabbert likely done in Jacksonville

Sat, 01 Feb 2014 17:55:34 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert is unlikely to be back with the team, as they have made it known they would like to re-sign QB Chad Henne, and plan to draft at least one, or perhaps two, quarterbacks in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Jaguars | Not giving up on Blaine Gabbert

Tue, 07 Jan 2014 11:51:38 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said he saw improvement in QB Blaine Gabbert in the second half of the season despite the fact that the team went with QB Chad Henne down the stretch. "I feel like you certainly see a nice evolution," Fisch said. "Of course, it's different playing games, but I do think his maturity level showed through. We could have been a storyline and we weren't. When you make a change in the starting quarterback, that can happen. He handled himself in such a professional manner that maybe there was growth from a maturity standpoint for him." There is speculation that Gabbert will be traded or released this offseason, but general manager Dave Caldwell said he would like Gabbert to return and compete for the job.

Jaguars | Want Blaine Gabbert to return

Tue, 31 Dec 2013 10:56:03 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said he wants QB Blaine Gabbert to return in 2014. "I talked with Blaine (Monday) and told him he's a Jaguar and we'd like to have him back," Caldwell said. "He's under contract and he has made great strides this year. He wants to be back. That says a lot about Blaine, and we're just taking it day-by-day and we'll go from there."
