Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley said he underwent surgery for sleep apnea earlier this month, and he expects to rejoin the team this week for the final session of organized team activities before mandatory minicamp.

Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley said he sees the team not picking up his fifth-year option as a positive because it will allow him to get a bigger contract faster than the other first-round picks in his draft class. "I kind of said it's a good thing, kind of," Fairley said. "It kind of will put me into a new contract earlier than (other) guys coming out in my draft. They're picking up guys' fifth-year option, that gets me into a new contract. That's the way I look at it."
