New York Yankees RPs Shawn Kelley and Adam Warren are unavailable to pitch Thursday, April 10. Kelley has worked in three of the last four games, and Warren has also pitched three times in the last four nights. Manager Joe Girardi said he's unsure who would pitch in a save situation tonight. He's likely to mix and match with RPs Matt Thornton, Dellin Betances and Cesar Cabral.
Fantasy Tip: Thornton is the most likely option because of his experience, but he may not be available if Girardi has to use him for matchups in a tight spot before the ninth. It's not worth playing the waiver wire on this situation just for tonight.

New York Yankees RP Shawn Kelley will not be available Tuesday, April 8, manager Joe Girardi said. Girardi doesn't know who'll close today, but Kelley will be the primary option for saves moving forward with David Robertson (groin) on the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Not surprising, since Kelley was the primary eighth-inning guy beforehand. Behind him, it's a dice roll depending on matchups, availability and Girardi's feel. Adam Warren should be your first non-Kelley try, but Dellin Betances along with southpaws Matt Thornton and Vidal Nuno all have a chance to earn credit here.

The New York Yankees will place RP David Robertson (groin) on the disabled list with a Grade 1 groin strain.
Fantasy Tip: A Grade 1 strain is the least severe, so it's entirely possible that Robertson will be ready to go when he's eligible to be activated. Shawn Kelley should be your first target if you're searching for save opps on the waiver wire, but Adam Warren, Matt Thornton, Vidal Nuno and even Dellin Betances might factor in if Joe Girardi is playing the matchups in the ninth. For what it's worth, Kelley had the save Monday in the team's home opener.

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi indicated SPs David Phelps, Adam Warren and Vidal Nuno would be candidates for bullpen jobs if they lose the No. 5 starting rotation spot to SP Michael Pineda.

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda gave up four hits and no runs while striking out five in 4 1/3 innings Tuesday, March 18, and it appears the No. 5 rotation spot is his to lose this spring. Pineda consistently hit 85 mph with his slider Tuesday and was between 90 and 92 mph with his fastball, and he was efficient with his pitches. Pineda hasn't allowed a run in nine spring innings. "Aggressive with every pitch. His slider is amazing. The ball was cutting really good. The fastball has some life so it's going to help a lot. And the changeup is great; he throws it right on the plate," C Francisco Cervelli said.
Manager Joe Girardi still wants to see Pineda stretched to the sixth or seventh innings, though, before it's official that he has a rotation spot locked up. However, Girardi said Pineda doesn't look like a pitcher coming off a serious injury. Pineda says he feels like he's getting stronger in each outing, and he won't rule out that he will touch the high-90s again. He's competing with SPs David Phelps, Adam Warren and Vidal Nuno, who each have two spring starts left.
Fantasy Tip: Pineda has come at an extreme discount in drafts because of his serious shoulder injury. With all signs pointing to a bounce-back, don't be surprised to see him shooting up draft boards.

Other than New York Yankees RP David Robertson as the closer, manager Joe Girardi indicated that the rest of the bullpen roles have been undecided. RP Shawn Kelley will probably serve as the setup man for Robertson, and RP Matt Thornton will likely be the situational left-hander. Girardi also mentioned SPs David Phelps and Adam Warren as possibilities for the bullpen.

The fifth starter job for the New York Yankees will be a battle between SP Vidal Nuno, David Phelps, Michael Pineda and Adam Warren. Pineda declined to handicap the race when asked Monday, Feb. 10. "I don't know. I'm not really paying attention (to whether) I'm the favorite or not," Pineda said. "I'm focused on my job and doing good and making it through spring training."
Fantasy Tip: Normally the fifth starter job has limited fantasy appeal in most leagues, but the winner of the job in New York has a little more value due to their top-to-bottom lineup and strong offensive support. The situation will be a fun battle to watch during camp.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said SP Andy Pettitte is not considering unretiring again. "He has shut it down for good," Cashman said. "That door is closed." If the season started today, CC Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda and Ivan Nova would be the Yankees' top three starters, with the two remaining spots in the rotation being filled by internal candidates such as Michael Pineda, Adam Warren and David Phelps.

The New York Yankees have just two pitchers locked into spots for the rotation in 2014, SPs CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova. SP Andy Pettitte has retired, and SPs Hiroki Kuroda and Phil Hughes are impending free agents. The team is hopeful Michael Pineda will be able to lock up a spot in spring training, and SPs Vidal Nuno, David Phelps and Adam Warren are other potential candidates to compete for spots barring any help from outside of the organization.

New York Yankees RP Mariano Rivera may not be available to pitch in a save situation Friday, Sept. 6, and RP David Robertson said he's unlikely to be available, too. Rivera has thrown each of the last three nights, including a four-out save Wednesday, Sept. 4. Robertson has tossed pitches in the last two games. Manager Joe Girardi said he'll go with matchups in the ninth in a save situation. Only RPs Joba Chamberlain and Adam Warren have recorded saves aside from Rivera and Robertson this year. Rivera blew his sixth save of the season Thursday, Sept. 5.
