Indians | Two Indians sitting out

Mon, 23 May 2016 17:39:40 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B Mike Napoli and C Yan Gomes are not in the starting lineup for the second game of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox Monday, May 23. 1B Carlos Santana will start at first base, while 2B Jason Kipnis will serve as the designated hitter. C Chris Gimenez will start at catcher and is batting eighth. 2B Michael Martinez will start at second base and is batting ninth against White Sox SP Erik Johnson.

Fantasy Tip: Gimenez has only one hit in his last at-bats and should be avoided in most leagues. Martinez went 2-for-4 in the first game of the doubleheader but is still not a great starting candidate.

Indians | Rajai Davis, Juan Uribe sitting

Mon, 23 May 2016 11:06:45 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Rajai Davis and 3B Juan Uribe are not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox Monday, May 23. OFs Michael Martinez and Marlon Byrd are starting and hitting ninth and eighth, respectively. 3B/OF Jose Ramirez is starting at third base and batting fifth against White Sox SP Mat Latos.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd and Martinez have low ceiling for fantasy gamers for Game 1. Ramirez has only one home run but is hittinng .296 (34-for-115) in a utility role for the Tribe and is a cheap value pick against Latos.

Indians | Juan Uribe back in lineup Sunday

Sun, 15 May 2016 08:14:56 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Juan Uribe is back in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey Sunday, May 15, batting sixth. INF/OF Jose Ramirez, who played the hot corner Saturday, May 14, will bat fifth and play left field Sunday. In addition, C Chris Gimenez will bat eighth and start behind the plate, while OF Michael Martinez will play right field and bat ninth. OFs Marlon Byrd and Rajai Davis and C Yan Gomes are not in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Although Uribe is just batting .224 in 76 at-bats this season, it's worth nothing that he is hitting .324 with two doubles and three RBI in 37 at-bats at home. Gimenez is worth considering as a value play in DFS, while Martinez is nothing more than a desperation source of salary cap relief.

Indians | Michael Brantley placed on DL

Sat, 14 May 2016 08:43:44 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a shoulder injury. The team recalled 2B Michael Martinez from Class AAA Columbus. C Roberto Perez (thumb) was also moved to the 60-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley missed several games before being placed on the disabled list because of the injury, so it is not known how long he will be sidelined. Marlon Byrd and Jose Ramirez should both receive more playing time because of the injury. Byrd has received limited playing time in May but has four hits and four RBI in his last three games. Ramirez has gone 3-for-13 over the last seven days but is hitting .309 on the season. Both players should be sleeper options in daily fantasy leagues when they play and could also be short-term options in deeper mixed leagues.

Indians | Yan Gomes, Chris Johnson not in

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 12:00:25 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes and 3B Chris Johnson are not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. C Roberto Perez is behind the plate and batting seventh, while 2B Michael Martinez draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting eighth against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey.

Fantasy Tip: Duffey has been very impressive in the last month for the Twins. Perez ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Martinez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) are nothing more than desperation plays as salary cap relief.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen going on DL, could be out for a month

Mon, 04 Aug 2014 13:48:49 -0700

The Pittsburgh Pirates are expected to place OF Andrew McCutchen (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list because of an oblique injury, and he could be out at least three to four weeks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Starling Marte likely will take over in center field when he comes off the seven-day disabled list. Travis Snider likely will see most of the playing time while McCutchen is out but could also be part of a platoon with a right-handed hitter. Jose Tabata, Michael Martinez, Jayson Nix and Matt Hague are options to see playing time as part of a platoon but likely would only be options in NL-only leagues. Owners in deeper mixed leagues should look to add Snider if they have the chance.
