Kansas City Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin appears to be the favorite for the No. 2 wide receiver job at this point but has not emerged as the dominant offseason player like he was last offseason. WRs Donnie Avery, Dexter McCluster and Terrance Copper are also expected to be candidates for the job.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin is off to another strong start in voluntary workouts this spring. He also had a strong start last season in minicamp when the pads were off, but he disappeared once the pads went on. Baldwin was working as a starter Wednesday, April 17, after serving behind WR Donnie Avery during workouts Tuesday, April 16. "Jon is working hard," head coach Andy Reid said. "He is a unique specimen being as big as he is. He can do some things that other people can't do just by size and strength. It's important he puts himself into position to do that."

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said WR Jonathan Baldwin needs time to develop and become a better receiver. "Baldwin is kind of a tweener," Reid said at the NFL's annual owners meetings in Phoenix. "He does have good, long speed, not great long speed. He's somebody that needs to continue to develop. That's a position that you need time to develop in. We'll see how he does."
Fantasy Tip: Baldwin does not appear to be in contention for the starting job opposite Dwayne Bowe, so his playing time in 2013 could be limited. Baldwin could be selected in drafts as a team's No. 5 wide receiver but probably will not be a big factor in fantasy.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel appeared to express frustration with the lack of regress being made by WR Jonathan Baldwin. "I hope to see him be able to separate when it's needed, be able to execute the gameplan the way we need it executed," Crennel said Monday, Dec. 17. "If he can do that, I think we'll see more production."

Kansas City Chiefs wideouts were not very productive in a Week 15 shutout against the Oakland Raiders. WR Dexter McCluster had a career-high seven catches for only 59 yards. WRs Jamar Newsome and Devon Wylie caught just one pass with the most experience starter, WR Steve Breaston inactive because of head coach Romeo Crennel's decision. "I'm still not sure why I'm not playing," Breaston said. "I'm past all that now. It just is what it is. There are other things for this team to worry about." WR Jonathan Baldwin did not catch a single pass.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin will be one of the starters at wide receiver in Week 15 with WR Dwayne Bowe (ribs) out for the rest of the year. Head coach Romeo Crennel said WRs Steve Breaston and Devon Wylie could be starting opposite of Breaston, but Crennel is unsure which player that will be. "We're going to work during the week and we're going to see who will give us the best chance in the game, and then those guys will be active," Crennel said. Breaston has disappointed with only seven catches for 74 yards this, but he is the receiver with the most experience on the current roster. He has been inactive for four of the last five games, and Crennel indicated that Breaston doesn't seem to have a strong grasp of the offense. WR Dexter McCluster has the most catches on roster in his career other than Breaston, with 108.
