Colts | Owner wants Andrew Luck signed soon

Sun, 01 May 2016 05:48:01 -0700

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck is having serious contract negotiations with the organization, and owner Jim Irsay said he would like Luck signed by the start of training camp in July.

Fantasy Tip: View Luck as a top-tier quarterback with the upside to be the No. 1 fantasy QB in 2016. Entering his fifth year in the league, Luck's fantasy floor is also attractive for those who target a set-and-forget quarterback early in drafts. However, he recently said he still isn't 100% healthy after dealing with shoulder and kidney injuries in 2015. Check back for updates on his status leading into the season.

Colts | Andrew Luck not at full health

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 14:41:31 -0700

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder, kidney) said he's not as healthy as he can be and that he still has work to do, although he did say he feels really good. Luck did he say he participated in everything during the first day of the offseason program Monday, April 18. Luck did not disclose a timeline for his rehabilitation or what he must do in order to complete a full recovery by Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Luck is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL when he's healthy, but staying healthy has been tough for him lately. He had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL last season, and he tends to have a nitty, gritty playstyle, too. That being said, he's still worth taking as a top QB1.

Colts | Andrew Luck needs to learn to slide

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 09:51:43 -0700

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck needs to learn how to slide better in order to avoid big hits in games, according to owner Jim Irsay. Minor league baseball manager Dean Treanor has offered his services to teach Luck the proper way to slide. Luck suffered a lacerated kidney on a hit he took last season and missed extended time.

Fantasy Tip: Luck missed nine games last year because of his injury and was a huge disappointment to his fantasy owners. It remains to be seen what kind of damage Luck can do in Rob Chudzinski's offense, but he should remain in the top tier of starting quarterbacks.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck not in Colts' plans

Sun, 28 Feb 2016 11:45:51 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck was told by the Colts that he is not in their plans for next season. QB Josh Freeman is expected to back up QB Andrew Luck.

Fantasy Tip: It shouldn't be a surprise that Indianapolis wants to move on from a 40-year-old backup quarterback, especially after the beating Hasselbeck took last season. Luck is still arguably the best fantasy quarterback available despite missing most of last year with injuries.

Colts | Andrew Luck's new deal to be 'shocking'

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 10:39:52 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck is in the final year of his rookie contract, but team owner Jim Irsay expects extension talks to begin in the coming months. "Andrew is going to be here. I don't know when that might be, but it's just a matter of time before we talk about this new contract and agreed to. It's going to be a big number. It's going to be a shocking number, nine figures and probably a $20 (million) starting point per year, but again we will find the right number to get to," Irsay told WISH-TV last week.

Fantasy Tip: Luck missed the final seven games of last season due to a lacerated kidney, but he has since recovered. The Colts know what they have in Luck, so their top priorities this offseason figure to be upgrading the offensive line and getting a deal done to keep their young quarterback in Indianapolis long-term. If the Colts can protect him better, he's an obvious bounce-back candidate with the ability to again be the top fantasy option at his position.

Colts | New backup quarterback in 2016?

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 14:38:29 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck could have a new backup next season if impending free-agent QB Matt Hasselbeck does not return. QBs Josh Freeman and Ryan Lindley are both still under contract and would be next in line to back up Luck.

Colts | Good chance for new Andrew Luck deal?

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 15:00:02 -0800

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck is healthy and there's a good chance he'll receive a new deal this offseason, according to owner Jim Irsay. Irsay said there's a good chance the Colts and Luck can get a long-term deal done this offseason. There haven't been any major negotiations yet, but Irsay said that's going to be happening as March approaches.

Fantasy Tip: Luck was forced to watch from the sideline for the better part of the 2015 season, but that didn't lessen the faith the Colts have in him as their future star quarterback. When Luck is fully healthy he's a candidate to be the top overall fantasy quarterback.

Colts | Andrew Luck to be extended?

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 13:28:49 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck could receive a contract extension this offseason. The Colts have as much confidence in him now as they ever have.

Fantasy Tip: Luck has proven to be an elite quarterback when he's at full health. The injury bug really plagued Luck last year, which should turn out to be an anomaly. Continue to view him as a top-level QB1.

Colts | Andrew Luck could ink extension

Sat, 09 Jan 2016 15:20:00 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck could sign a contract extension this offseason as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. "If we don't get an agreement," owner Jim Irsay said, "we still have time. And he is going to be signed. There's a reasonably good chance we can come to that agreement this offseason. He will be here, trust me. Andrew and I have talked - we talked after the end of the season - and he couldn't be more excited."

Fantasy Tip: Luck will likely be one of the first QBs taken in next year's drafts.

Colts | Andrew Luck guaranteed through 2016

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 19:23:41 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) was previously in line for a deal that would have made him the richest quarterback in the NFL, but his lacerated kidney and lost 2015 season meant that deal never ended up getting done. He is only guaranteed for injury through 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Luck is likely going to get paid, as he has been mostly everything as advertised until this injury-plagued and forgettable 2015 season. If the Colts were foolish enough to go another route in the next year or two, there would be plenty of people lining up for Luck's services. The good news about 2015 for fantasy owners is that Luck will likely be a steal on draft day.

Colts | Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck won't go on IR

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:46:28 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QBs Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) and Matt Hasselbeck (shoulder) won't be placed on the Reserve/Injured list in case the Colts make the postseason.

Fantasy Tip: The Colts have a very small chance of making the postseason, so don't expect to see Luck or Hasselbeck again this season. Luck's season was a huge disappointment, mainly due to injuries. But if he's back and healthy in 2016, he should be considered an upper-tier quarterback in fantasy drafts.

Colts | Andrew Luck out for Week 17

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 10:28:35 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) won't have time to get enough repetitions in practice this week, and he won't play in Week 17, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

Fantasy Tip: Charlie Whitehurst ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is the likely starter, but he doesn't belong in your FantasyScore lineup against the Tennessee Titans.

Colts | Andrew Luck still not cleared

Tue, 29 Dec 2015 09:15:34 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) still hasn't received medical clearance Tuesday, Dec. 29, but he could play in Week 17 if he's cleared in time.

Fantasy Tip: Luck ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) has no reason to risk his namesake against the Tennessee Titans in the regular season finale. Charlie Whitehurst ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) will likely start, if his hamstring injury isn't severe. However, he shouldn't be your starter on FantasyScore.

Colts | Andrew Luck not cleared

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 15:37:28 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) said that he still isn't cleared for team drills. Luck wants to play in Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans if he is cleared this week.

Fantasy Tip: Keep a close eye on Luck's status throughout the week. If he's cleared and is expected to start against the Titans, he'd be a really sneaky sleeper pick on FantasyScore despite the fact that he's been out for a while. The Titans have been a really nice matchup for opposing quarterbacks for much of the year.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck doubtful

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 13:59:52 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (shoulder) is doubtful to play in Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans, according to head coach Chuck Pagano. Hasselbeck isn't ruling anything out, but he's "not super optimistic" that he will play in Week 17. QB Stephen Morris could play against the Titans if QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) isn't ready to return.

Fantasy Tip: Avoiding Hasselbeck everywhere is the right move in all fantasy formats. The Titans are a top-five fantasy matchup for quarterbacks this year, so Luck could have a surprisingly great game if he returns to action. It's a big risk on FantasyScore, but it could set you apart from your competition.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck, Andrew Luck limited

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 11:10:55 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QBs Matt Hasselbeck (back, ribs) and Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) were both limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Luck has already been ruled out this weekend and may be forced to sit in Week 17, too. Hasselbeck ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is expected to start against the Miami Dolphins, but he's one play from being knocked out, so he's not a viable fantasy option at all.

Colts | Andrew Luck wants to play Week 17

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 05:56:51 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) wants to play Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans, even if the Colts are eliminated from playoff contention. Luck would have to be medically cleared to play, though, and both he and head coach Chuck Pagano want Luck to be 100% before returning to action this season.

Fantasy Tip: Luck ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) hasn't played since Week 9, and regardless of what he says, it seems unlikely he'll suit up if the playoffs are out of reach. Stay tuned for updates, but even if Luck plays, he would be an extremely risky fantasy start in Week 17.

Colts | Andrew Luck could be shut down

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 15:06:01 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) could be shut down for the rest of the regular season. Luck has already been ruled out for Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins, but he's hoping to return this year. "I think we'd wait and probably have that discussion if he does get cleared and he is healthy," head coach Chuck Pagano said. "I can't answer that right now."

Fantasy Tip: It makes no sense for the Colts to risk it next week with Luck ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) if they are eliminated from the playoffs. He shouldn't be on your radar even if he plays in Week 17 on FantasyScore. Matt Hasselbeck ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is beat up, as well, and doesn't deserve any fantasy consideration.

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 09:39:27 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) and QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, neck, arm) are practicing Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Luck isn't expected to receive clearance to play in Week 16. Hasselbeck ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) faces off against the Miami Dolphins but isn't a very stout FantasyScore play.

Colts | Matt Hasselbeck beat up

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 13:45:34 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (rib, neck, arm) is "beat up from the feet up," according to head coach Chuck Pagano. Pagano will evaluate Hasselbeck further Tuesday, Dec. 22, and the Colts may have to turn to QB Charlie Whitehurst in Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins. QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) has already been ruled out, and the Colts want him to be cleared by doctors for game action with enough time to practice all week before he returns.

Fantasy Tip: Hasselbeck is no safe bet to finish the entire game this weekend even if he starts, making him one to avoid in all fantasy formats. Whitehurst doesn't deserve your attention, either.

Colts | Andrew Luck out again

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 13:12:07 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) will not play in Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Hasselbeck should start once again for the Colts this week. Indianapolis is only one game behind the Houston Texans for the division lead, so Luck still may not be sidelined for the last two games if they're in a position for a playoff spot. Luck's status will need to be monitored after this weekend's contest, but Hasselbeck is not a reliable starting quarterback, especially with a fantasy championship at stake.

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) was sitting out of practice as a rest day Friday, Dec. 18. Luck continues to lift weights and do rehab work.

Fantasy Tip: Luck ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) won't play this weekend but could make his return in Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins, which is a good enough matchup to at least consider him on FantasyScore.

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 15:50:33 -0800

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) put in a limited practice Thursday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Luck ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) has already been ruled out this weekend, but he could make his return in a nice matchup with the Miami Dolphins in Week 16. He would certainly be worth considering for a daily start next weekend, although plenty of risk would be involved since he's been out since Nov. 8.

Colts | Andrew Luck back in Week 16?

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 11:30:40 -0800

The Indianapolis Colts are hoping QB Andrew Luck (kidney) can return in Week 16, but he won't play in Week 15 against the Houston Texans. QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) is hopeful of returning by the end of the week. If not, QB Charlie Whitehurst will start this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Luck ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) would have an enticing matchup against the Miami Dolphins if he makes it back next week. Keep him stashed for that reason. Neither Hasselbeck ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) nor Whitehurst ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) are worth of a sleeper pick at quarterback against a strong Texans D.

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 10:50:52 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) was limited to individual work in practice Wednesday, Dec. 16, and head coach Chuck Pagano said Luck isn't cleared for 11-on-11 drills. Luck will not play against the Houston Texans in Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: If Luck ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) keeps progressing, he has a real shot at playing in Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins, which is a great fantasy matchup. Continue stashing Luck in the event you make it to championship week.

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) will not play Sunday, Dec. 20, according to head coach Chuck Pagano. QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, arm) is expected to start.

Fantasy Tip: There's no word as to his participation level yet. He's not expected to go this week against the Houston Texans. Matt Hasselbeck ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) should get the call, but he's a FantasyScore option without a lot of upside.

Colts | Andrew Luck not 100%

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 13:12:41 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) is hoping to practice this week but isn't 100% healthy yet. Luck maintains that he will play again this year, but the Colts didn't expect him to return in Week 15 against the Houston Texans as recently as last week. Indianapolis is handling Luck as carefully and cautiously as they can. Doctors know that Luck can't risk raising his heart rate, which would pump more blood through his kidneys and delay the healing process. Luck is unable to run still, and the Colts don't have a specific timetable for how long he'll be out. It doesn't look like he's close to returning anytime soon.

Fantasy Tip: It certainly doesn't sound like Luck will play this Sunday against the Texans, so be prepared to go in another direction in all fantasy formats. With Matt Hasselbeck also hurt, Charlie Whitehurst may be the quarterback this weekend. If that happens, make sure to downgrade all Indy receivers against the Texans.

Colts | Andrew Luck not a lock to return

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 11:51:49 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) isn't guaranteed to return this season with a lacerated kidney despite owner Jim Irsay suggesting he could return this week.

Fantasy Tip: The Colts are still tied for the AFC South division lead, so Indianapolis is definitely in a sticky situation with their franchise quarterback. They want him back healthy for a possible playoff run, but they also don't want to bring him back prematurely and risk aggravating the injury. For now, avoid putting Luck in your FantasyScore lineups.

Colts | Andrew Luck increasing workouts

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 15:55:00 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney, abdomen) is picking up the intensity of his workouts and is also throwing more passes from all ranges this week. He also spent time running sprints Wednesday, Dec. 9. "Getting better, feeling better," Luck said. "Probably increase the volume, intensity of what I've been doing. Definitely trending upward, trending in the right direction. Have to get in shape if you want to play a football game. There are steps to get there. And that's a big part of the preparation." Luck's next step will be practicing with teammates, but there's no timetable for that to happen. There continues to be good progress in his kidney healing, and owner Jim Irsay thinks Luck could return in Week 15 against the Houston Texans or for Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: You should hang onto Luck ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) in traditional leagues if you've made the playoffs, as that Week 16 matchup against Miami could be pretty intriguing. You may want to wait at least a week on FantasyScore, though, if he returns in a tough divisional matchup against Houston.

Fantasy Tip: Luck ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) is still probably a week or two away from returning, so owners can avoid him. Matt Hasselbeck ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is expected to be the starting quarterback against the Jacksonville Jaguars and is not a great option.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said he believes QB Andrew Luck (kidney) could return to action in Week 15's game against the Houston Texans. In a worst-case scenario, he would return versus the Miami Dolphins in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Chuck Pagano said Luck ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) would reassume the starting quarterback role as soon as he is healthy, even though the team is 4-0 with Matt Hasselbeck ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) under center. Continue to be patient and stash Luck in traditional leagues. Hasselbeck is a decent sleeper pick in FantasyScore if he has a favorable matchup.

Colts | Andrew Luck gives positive news

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 10:56:39 -0800

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) said he has been throwing a fair amount and reported minimal pain.

Fantasy Tip: He's not expected to face the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. Matt Hasselbeck ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has delivered 20.5 points per game the last two games. The Steelers haven't defended the QB position well the last five weeks, and Hasselbeck might be worth one more spin on FantasyScore this week.
