The New York Yankees recalled RP Dellin Betances from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Thursday, May 16, and optioned RP Brett Marshall to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Betances has been converted to a relief pitcher, so don't expect him to be a candidate for the rotation if Andy Pettitte (back) lands on the disabled list.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said SP Dellin Betances will move to a relief role full time with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Betances fastball command wasn't what the team wanted to see in terms of a starting pitcher.

Fantasy Tip: Betances' offerings have been major league-caliber for a few years now, but his inability to throw strikes consistently has done him in as a starting pitcher. He has swing-and-miss stuff, too, but that'll have to play in the bullpen now. This severely limits his fantasy value in the future.

Several scouts have been raving about New York Yankees P Jose Ramirez and OF Ramon Flores this year. Ramirez is currently pitching with Single-A Tampa, and Flores is with Tampa as well. C Gary Sanchez also continues to impress, while Ps Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances and C Austin Romine have been huge disappointments.

New York Yankees SP Dellin Betances struck out five batters over six scoreless innings Saturday, June 30, for Double-A Trenton. It was his first start since being demoted from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He posted a 6.39 ERA in 16 starts with the SWB Yankees.

New York Yankees SP David Phelps, who was sent to the minors to be stretched out, would be the team's first candidate to fill the rotation voids with SPs Andy Pettitte (ankle) and CC Sabathia (groin) out. Phelps is maxing out at 65 to 70 pitches on the farm right now, so he could return after one more outing. The Yanks could try to trade for Minnesota Twins SP Francisco Liriano if they aren't satisfied with their in-house options. SPs Dellin Betances and Manny Banuelos (elbow) are not options.
