Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta (finger) won't make his final start of the season because of a blister and the fact that his innings limit is high in his first full season.

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta is very comfortable pitching to C Martin Maldonado from their time together in the minors and because of their ability to speak in Spanish. Maldonado got the starting nod behind the plate over C Jonathan Lucroy Sunday, July 21, with Peralta on the bump. Peralta allowed two hits over eight innings against the Miami Marlins for his fourth straight excellent outing. "He has (top-of-rotation) ability," manager Ron Roenicke said. "The difference is going to be the mental side of it. Is he able to really run his own ballgame? Is he able to bounce back when he has a bad inning? The good ones, they all do it."
Peralta's recent success has been attributed to better control and the fact that he's also been able to control his emotions while pitching. He recorded most of his seven strikeouts Sunday on his slider, and he kept his 96 mph heater down in the zone. Roenicke doesn't expect Maldonado to be Peralta's personal catcher forever, however, but it appears the club will use that arrangement for the time being.

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta (hamstring) is on track to make his start Tuesday, July 9, after leaving his last outing early with a strained left hamstring. "No restrictions," manager Ron Roenicke said. "It's all going to be dictated on what's happening. If he feels something, then, obviously, we'll address that. As far as pitches and things, there's no restrictions."

Milwaukee Brewers SP Kyle Lohse will make $4 million this year with $7 million deferred to 2016-2018, plus $11 million in each of the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He can make an extra $1.05 million in performance bonuses; $350,000 each for the three seasons that he tops 190 innings. The team is already set in their rotation with SPs Yovani Gallardo, Marco Estrada, Wily Peralta, Chris Narveson and Mike Fiers. They may choose to carry Lohse as part of their 13-man staff to begin the year, and Lohse said he should be game-ready shortly. Fiers and Peralta have minor league options left, so they are the most likely to be bumped from the rotation to make room for Lohse when he's ready. Both young pitchers have struggled this spring, too.
Fantasy Tip: Now that Lohse has a team to pitch for, he's definitely worthy of a draft pick in all formats. He has excellent control, but isn't as dominant as 2012 suggests. He also has struggled in his career at Miller Park, confines not as friendly to hurlers as his old digs in St. Louis.

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta (shoulder) made his first spring start Thursday, Feb. 28, and tossed two shutout innings, giving up two hits, no walks and striking out none. Peralta said he felt good.

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta (shoulder) is slightly behind the other pitchers in camp due to some slight shoulder stiffness, but the team was impressed with his bullpen session Thursday, Feb. 21, and Peralta should be able to catch up in camp. "He'll be ready right away," said pitching coach Rick Kranitz. "He threw great today. He'll throw again day after tomorrow. Then we're into (live) BP." Peralta is a leading candidate for a rotation spot.

Milwaukee Brewers SP Mark Rogers is out of minor league options, meaning he will most likely be on the team's opening day roster barring an injury. Rogers is the only pitcher on the squad that is vying for a starting rotation spot that is out of options. "Clearly, we can't get him back to the minor leagues, so we're really focused on trying to get him as an active member of this pitching staff," assistant general manager Gord Ash said. SPs Chris Narveson, Wily Peralta and Mike Fiers are also competing for spots in the rotation.
