Minor-league pitching instructor Gil Patterson, a key figure in the development of many of the Oakland Athletics pitchers, is leaving the A's organization after six seasons to become the New York Yankees' director of pitching. Patterson, who had been a player and a minor-league coach with the Yankees, said by phone that his new position will allow him to work full time in Tampa, Fla., where his family lives.

Oakland Athletics pitching instructor Gil Patterson is a candidate for the New York Yankees' pitching coach position, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. Bullpen coach Mike Harkey and minor league pitching coach Scott Aldred are also being considered for the job. Patterson is also being considered for the Athletics' bullpen coach position.
