Joe Mahoney Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Joe Mahoney MLB and fantasy baseball news
Mon, 13 May 2013 10:22:18 -0700 Miami Marlins 1B Logan Morrison (knee) has been serving as the designated hitter in extended spring training, and he'll start playing first base in games next week. 1B Casey Kotchman (hamstring) should begin a rehab assignment next week. Fantasy Tip: Greg Dobbs has been playing first base regularly with Morrison, Kotchman and Joe Mahoney (hamstring) all sidelined. Kotchman should be back before Morrison or Mahoney, which will push Dobbs back into a utility role. Morrison is the best fantasy option of this group, but his recovery from serious knee surgery clouds his production and power potential whenever he returns. He's probably not worth a roster spot in mixed leagues until he returns from the DL.
Tue, 30 Apr 2013 11:51:08 -0700 The Miami Marlins placed 1B Joe Mahoney (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 30.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 11:23:12 -0700 The Miami Marlins activated 1B Joe Mahoney (oblique) from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 17, and optioned C Kyle Skipworth to the minors in a corresponding move. Fantasy Tip: Mike Redmond has indicated that Mahoney will get every chance to prove he belongs as the starting first baseman. Target him in NL leagues if you're hurting for first base options. He can be ignored in mixed formats.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 14:12:55 -0700 Miami Marlins 1B Joe Mahoney (oblique) has continued his rehab assignment with Single-A Jupiter and is very close to returning to the team.
Fri, 12 Apr 2013 13:33:00 -0700 Miami Marlins 1B Joe Mahoney (oblique) will start his rehab with Single-A Jupiter Friday, April 12. Fantasy Tip: Mahoney is nearing a return to the big league club, and manager Mike Redmond said he'll give Mahoney every chance to earn he deserves the right to start at first base. Keep him on your radar in NL-only leagues.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 15:07:50 -0700 Miami Marlins manager Mike Redmond appears ready to give 1B Joe Mahoney (oblique) a shot at the first base job when he deems himself healthy. Mahoney began the year on the disabled list with an oblique injury but played in an extended spring game Wednesday, April 10, and will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Jupiter in the next few days. Mahoney hit .233 with one walk and nine strikeouts and a .258 on-base percentage in 30 spring training at-bats. Fantasy Tip: Oblique injuries have a tendency to linger and cause setbacks, so don't consider Mahoney as close to returning as it may sound. If he does get the first crack at the starting first base job when he's healthy, he's nothing more than corner infield insurance in NL-only universes, however.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 09:16:22 -0700 The Miami Marlins have placed 1B Logan Morrison (knee), OF Alfredo Silverio (elbow) and RP Jose Ceda (elbow) on the 60-day disabled list. They have placed 1B Joe Mahoney (oblique) and C Jeff Mathis (collarbone) on the 15-day disabled list.
Sat, 02 Mar 2013 22:57:00 -0800 Miami Marlins 1B Joe Mahoney hit two home runs and drove in four runs Saturday, March 2, against the New York Mets in an 8-8 tie. Mahoney is now hitting 5-for-14 (.357) this spring with five RBIs.
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 16:29:37 -0800 Miami Marlins OF Logan Morrison (knee) will be re-evaluated by a doctor Tuesday, Feb. 19, and it's still unknown if he'll be ready for opening day. 1B Casey Kotchman and INF Joe Mahoney are in the mix at first base if Morrison isn't ready.
Tue, 05 Feb 2013 09:44:15 -0800 Miami Marlins OF Logan Morrison (knee), who will be transitioning from left field to first base this season, will not be running at full strength when camp begins, but he may be cleared to pick up the pace at the end of the month. "We're going to be patient," president Larry Beinfest said. "We'll wait for him to be back. We'll work with Dr. Steadman and Dr. Kaplan on anything that's going on with the knee." There is still a chance Morrison won't be ready by opening day. 1B Joe Mahoney is expected to see a good look at first with Morrison still recovering during spring training. 3B Greg Dobbs and OF Austin Kearns will also see work at first.
