With Tony LaRussa taking over as the Arizona Diamondbacks' director of baseball operations, speculation has manager Kirk Gibson heading for the exit at some time this season. If general manager Kevin Towers is also fired, sources indicate Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty and Detroit Tigers assistant GM Al Avila could be candidates.

Orioles | Al Avila under consideration for GM position

Detroit Tigers assistant general manager Al Avila has been mentioned as a candidate for the Baltimore Orioles' vacant general managerial position, although he is considered a long shot to end up with the job. "I'm very happy here," Avila said of his relationship with the Tigers. "I have a great relationship with the ownership and I've worked for (general manager) Dave (Dombrowski) for 20 years."
