The Boston Red Sox aren't considering hiring Chili Davis as their new hitting coach, because he's unlikely to leave the Oakland Athletics.

Former major league OF Chili Davis has left the Boston Red Sox organization to take over as the hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics, according to a source. Davis served as the hitting coach with Triple-A Pawtucket in 2011.

Former MLB player Chili Davis is serving as a hitting instructor at the Los Angeles Dodgers' Arizona Instructional league and could be considered for the hitting coach position at the major league level, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick.
