Rangers | Yu Darvish cleared of gambling ties

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 15:09:10 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish has been cleared of any ties to his brother's alleged gambling activities in Japan.

Fantasy Tip: This could have been a nightmare for Darvish fans and Rangers supporters, but now it is a non-issue. Darvish remains a risky pick in fantasy drafts (no later than the middle rounds) because of his Tommy John surgery.

Rangers | Yu Darvish denies gambling link

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 09:04:08 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish said he has never been involved in gambling activities amid a Major League Baseball investigation after the arrest of his younger brother in Japan. Darvish issued a statement through his agent to recognize MLB's need to conduct an investigation. He declined comment but said he is certain they will find he had no involvement. "I am not and have never been involved with gambling activities," the statement read.

"While I understand that Major League Baseball must conduct an investigation, I am certain that they will find that I had no involvement in this matter whatsoever. I will not comment on this matter again, out of respect for Major League Baseball's investigation, and I am focused on preparing for the upcoming season."

Fantasy Tip: Darvish may be out until May due to recovery from Tommy John surgery, and he's a low-end SP2 in fantasy.

Rangers | Yu Darvish to stop throwing

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 12:33:34 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) is headed back to Japan, where he will not throw for the next five to six weeks. Darvish will resume throwing in January in Texas.

Fantasy Tip: This is not a setback for Darvish, merely part of his rehab plan. Darvish will go down many draft boards because of his Tommy John surgery, maybe even to the late rounds in mixed drafts.

Rangers | Yu Darvish feeling no pain

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 09:11:19 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) has been throwing for a week since having Tommy John Surgery in spring training. Things are progressing positively without any setbacks and "no pain whatsoever" says Darvish.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish could be ready for opening day, but we expect him to start the season on the disabled list to manage his innings. He should fall in drafts, as all pitchers returning from Tommy John surgery do, but he could be a draft-day value as long as you realize that he will be handled cautiously and will be working with an innings limit.

Rangers | Yu Darvish to have checkup

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 15:18:59 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) will receive a checkup this week and could resume a throwing program five months after his Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: It might be a stretch to assume that Darvish will be ready to go for the start of the regular season next year. If that's the case, he could be a nice bargain on draft day next spring. Keep tabs on his progress this winter.

Rangers | Yu Darvish has TJS

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 14:03:04 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday, March 17. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews, and he replaced the ligament in Darvish's elbow with the Palmaris tendon from his right forearm. Darvish's right arm will be in a sling for seven to 10 days, and then he'll move to a brace. He'll start his rehab in the next few days and is expected to do rehab work in Texas during the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish will miss the entire 2015 season, and he may struggled to return in time for opening day in 2016. That could make him a draft bargain next year, however. In Darvish's absence, Ross Detwiler may now be a front-runner for a rotation spot. Only consider drafting Detwiler in deep AL-only formats.
