The Kansas City Royals have spoken to the New York Mets about SP R.A. Dickey, an industry source confirmed, but there is no evidence of momentum for a trade between the two teams. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson and his top lieutenants are expected to wait until a full picture of Dickey's trade value comes together at next week's winter meetings. The Royals are reportedly offering minor league prospects for Dickey.

Tampa Bay Rays executive VP Andrew Friedman has been appointed to MLB's new International Talent Committee, which will study issues involving "the development and acquisition" of players and such topics as a worldwide draft and age limits for signing. Friedman is one of two GMs on the committee, along with the New York Mets' Sandy Alderson. The committee is co-chaired by players union head Michael Weiner and MLB executive VP and labor relations chief Rob Manfred.

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said the team is likely done dealing after sending OF Carlos Beltran to the San Francisco Giants. "To make a long story short, unless something extraordinary were to come up, I wouldn't rule it out. But for me personally, I'm reluctant to make many other changes. New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said he probably would not have even applied for his position if it weren't for commissioner Bud Selig urging him to do so, according to the New York Daily News' Peter Botte. "Probably not, and the reason was I was already working," Alderson said. "Absent (Selig) asking to go ahead and pursue this, and to some degree urging me to pursue it, I'd still be in Santo Domingo studying Spanish."
