Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma says he's healthy

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 13:42:08 -0800

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma said he is healthy despite failing his physical examination with the Los Angeles Dodgers. "I'm very healthy," Iwakuma declared. "They (the Dodgers) had their own medical issues. I went to a physical, and they said they wanted to renegotiate. That's all I know."

Fantasy Tip: Somewhat comically, health has been the biggest fantasy drawback to Iwakuma since his monster 2013 campaign, as he has made just 48 starts over the past two seasons, including only 20 last year. He is a nice mid-rotation arm for your virtual team, but entering his age-35 season, any significant bounce-back expectations should be kept in check.

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 11:17:47 -0800

Updating an earlier report, Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma can earn close to the $45 million he agreed to on the nixed deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers in his deal with the Mariners. He has two vesting options and a full no-trade clause.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma is a rock-solid SP3 in fantasy if he's healthy.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma back to Mariners

Free-agent SP Hisashi Iwakuma (Mariners) agreed to a one-year deal with the Seattle Mariners with options for 2017 and 2018 Friday, Dec. 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma doesn't lose much fantasy luster with his return to the M's. The team seems to be on the rise, and his win total may not remain sparse, if he's healthy. Iwakuma is a rock-solid SP3 in fantasy.

Dodgers | Hisashi Iwakuma contract details

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 10:23:11 -0800

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Dodgers SP Hisashi Iwakuma agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal Monday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Iwakuma has been lights-out at times, and he even threw a no-hitter for the Seattle Mariners in his time with them. That said, he's an excellent target in the middle rounds to fortify your fantasy rotation in another pitching-friendly environment.

Dodgers | Hisashi Iwakuma agrees with L.A.

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 08:59:40 -0800

Free-agent SP Hisashi Iwakuma (Mariners) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to a source. He finished 15-9 with a 3.52 ERA in 28 starts in 2015 and went 38-20 with a 3.07 ERA in 91 career games with the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: When Iwakuma is healthy, he can be a very valuable fantasy commodity, as he showed with a strong second half last year when he returned from injury. Moving to another strong pitcher's park in L.A. will further boost his value in the middle rounds of drafts next season.

Dodgers | Hisashi Iwakuma pursued by Dodgers

Sat, 05 Dec 2015 15:23:16 -0800

Free-agent SP Hisashi Iwakuma (Mariners) is being pursued by the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: If the move happens, it would give him a boost in fantasy with the move to the NL. His health is questionable at times, and he turns 35 in April. So it might be a stretch for him to repeat his sparkling '13 season with a 2.66 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He'd still make a solid SP3 or SP4 in mixed leagues.

Giants | San Francisco interested in Hisashi Iwakuma

Sat, 05 Dec 2015 12:20:59 -0800

The San Francisco Giants have interest in free-agent SP Hisashi Iwakuma (Mariners), according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma went 9-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 20 starts for Seattle last season and is 47-25 with a 3.17 ERA over four MLB seasons. The 34-year-old right-hander should benefit from a potential move to the National League and could provide excellent value in the later rounds of next year's fantasy baseball drafts.

Dodgers | Hisashi Iwakuma of interest to Dodgers

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 14:40:56 -0800

Free-agent SP Hisashi Iwakuma (Mariners) is of interest to the Los Angeles Dodgers, if they are unable to re-sign free-agent SP Zack Greinke (Dodgers), according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: A move to the National League would be a significant boon to Iwakuma's fantasy stock. Over the past two seasons, he owns a 3.53 ERA, a 3.45 FIP, a 1.06 WHIP and a 7.7 K/9 through 308 2/3 innings. His downward trend since his career-best 2013 season should continue, but Iwakuma still projects to provide a nice return on a late-round pick in drafts this spring.
