The Seattle Mariners hold a club option for next season on SP Hisashi Iwakuma, and general manager Jack Zduriencik confirmed this week that the team will exercise that option. He called the decision a "no brainer."

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma (back, groin) was pulled from his start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday, Sept. 26, for precautionary reasons. He had been bothered by a sore back and groin in his previous starts but checked out fine.

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma allowed just four hits with no walks over eight scoreless innings while posting a season-high 11 strikeouts in a win Tuesday, Aug. 19, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Since July 1, Iwakuma is 7-2 with a 1.63 ERA, 65 strikeouts and four walks in 72 innings over 10 starts.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma has emerged as a fantasy must-start in all formats this season. Iwakuma, Felix Hernandez and Chris Young have been the best trio of pitchers in baseball this season.

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma is 6-2 with a 1.83 ERA since Tuesday, July 1. Iwakuma is starting Tuesday, Aug. 19, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma is a must-start arm in all seasonal formats. You'll have to pay up for Iwakuma in daily games tonight, but it is a very favorable matchup. The Phillies rank 28th in the league in wOBA against right handed pitchers.

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma will be kept on normal five-day rest, working Tuesday, Aug. 20, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Manager Lloyd McClendon wanted to move him up to use him Sunday, Aug. 24, against the Boston Red Sox, too.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners in head-to-head formats will be thrilled with Iwakuma's sudden two-start status in the current week.
