Atlanta Braves SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery on his elbow Friday, March 21.
Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't come as much of a surprise at this point. You can safely drop Beachy in all leagues. It means that David Hale and Freddy Garcia will open the year in the rotation. Alex Wood, a nice sleeper candidate, sees his stock rise now that he'll be safe to stick in the rotation all season long.

Atlanta Braves SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) will seek a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles.
Fantasy Tip: It's looking more and more like Beachy will join Kris Medlen (elbow) in needed Tommy John surgery this season. Stay away from him in drafts.

Atlanta Braves general manager Frank Wren said the team is not looking to add pitching, even as it waits to see what the prognosis on SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) is. "Right now, we plan on going with what we have," Wren said. "We like what we have."

Atlanta Braves SPs Kris Medlen (elbow) and Brandon Beachy (elbow) are scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews Monday, March 17. Medlen has been preparing for the news he needs a second Tommy John surgery. Beachy is now facing the possibility of having his second procedure. Beachy was told earlier this week his ligament was fine and his biceps was damaged, which is what he passed along to the media.
Fantasy Tip: Beachy's prognosis isn't clear, but it appears he has a better chance to escape a devastating diagnosis than Medlen does. Beachy owners won't want to take chances, though, and should start piling up alternatives in case he has to miss the 2014 campaign, as well.

The Atlanta Braves think SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) probably is suffering from typical soreness and inflammation as a result of coming back from his elbow clean-up surgery last autumn.
Fantasy Tip: It's been a tough road following his 2012 Tommy John procedure. His skills make him a fine middle- to late-rounds gamble in mixed leagues, but his availability out of the gate may be in question.

The Atlanta Braves are dealing with several injuries to their rotation, and if SPs Brandon Beachy (elbow), Kris Medlen (forearm) and Mike Minor (shoulder) are all not ready for the regular season, SP David Hale might find himself breaking camp with the team and opening the regular season in the starting rotation.

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) said his ligament is fine and he's just dealing with some inflammation in his right elbow. He said he had some tightness in his arm in his previous two spring starts, too, and was told it was something he could try to pitch through and that it might loosen up after throwing. "He thought it was something that he could get through it. And we let him, to a certain point," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Again, I don't think it's something that we need to panic about, and we'll take it a day at a time." Beachy doesn't think he'll need to undergo an MRI exam.
