Washington Nationals RP Cole Kimball (shoulder) has been playing catch Mondays through Saturdays every week as he recovers from surgery on his rotator cuff. "It doesn't feel like I had surgery when I play catch," Kimball said. "That's a plus. But I know there's a lot of long weeks ahead throwing. There's a month of bullpens before I face hitters. That month of bullpens will be a test." He hopes to resume throwing off a mound by the end of the first week in April. Kimball could return to game action around the All-Star break.

The Washington Nationals signed Ps Ross Detwiler, Atahualpa Severino, Cole Kimball, Ryan Mattheus, Ryan Perry, Henry Rodriguez and Craig Stammen, Cs Wilson Ramos and Jhonatan Solano, INFs Ian Desmond, Danny Espinosa, Steve Lombardozzi, Chris Marrero and Tyler Moore and OF Eury Perez to one-year deals for the 2012 season Friday, March 2. OF Roger Bernadina and RP Drew Storen had their contracts renewed. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Washington Nationals RP Cole Kimball (shoulder) has increased his workload to throwing from 100 feet, as he makes his way back from rotator cuff surgery in June. He had been playing catch at the team's facility in Florida since Jan. 10. "It feels normal," Kimball said Sunday, Feb. 19. "Everything is identical, and that's what's encouraging. A lot of guys change their delivery and change their arm action. It's the same thing, so I'm excited."

The Washington Nationals also received P Robert Gilliam from the Oakland Athletics as part of the trade that netted them SP Gio Gonzalez. The trade is still pending physicals. Nationals SP Cole Kimball was slated to be part of the package, but Washington gave up A.J. Cole instead.
