New York Mets manager Terry Collins said he thinks OF Lucas Duda starting at first base and 2B Daniel Murphy at second base is the team's best lineup, with OFs Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Juan Lagares and Marlon Byrd in the outfield. "You're allowed to change," Collins said. "There's nothing that's etched in stone. You're allowed to make changes and you're allowed to make decisions that you think are in the best interest of the ballclub. And last week we made decisions that we thought were in the best interest of the ballclub. They didn't work. So, as I ask our players to adjust, I've got to do the same thing." Moving Duda to first doesn't mean that 1B Ike Davis will be in the minors longer than expected, however. Davis is hitting .174 (4-for-23) with four walks and seven strikeouts with Triple-A Las Vegas in six games.
Fantasy Tip: As Duda mentions, he's familiar with first base after playing the position extensively in the minors. This doesn't change his value at all, and Collins said they can move Duda back to the outfield when they're comfortable recalling Davis. The biggest loser is Jordany Valdespin, who wasn't hitting well in his stretch of starts at second base.

Updating a previous item, New York Mets 2B Justin Turner (intercostal) is expected to land on the disabled list with a strained intercostal muscle on his left side, according to manager Terry Collins. Turner had an MRI exam Monday, June 17, and isn't traveling with the team. The team is expected to recall SP Zack Wheeler and activate RP Scott Atchison (elbow) from the disabled list Tuesday, June 18. Collins said INF Jordany Valdespin will serve as the backup to SS Omar Quintanilla at shortstop.
Fantasy Tip: Turner was serving as infield depth for the Mets. He didn't carry much value to begin with aside from NL-only leagues. It's safe to drop him if you were using him as depth in cavernous mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: If Murphy doesn't hold 1B eligibility in your league from last year, he might soon gain it. He's not the ideal candidate for fantasy value from that position, but versatility helps his worth to any club. Valdespin, meanwhile, might sneak into deep-mixed relevance if this arrangement sticks while Ike Davis is down at Triple-A Las Vegas.

Fantasy Tip: Valdespin is playing a super utility role with the Mets, leaving him as an option mainly in NL-only leagues. He'll become a bit more valuable if he's playing often at second base, but it's unlikely that Murphy is benched outright.

Fantasy Tip: The club is hoping it's just a day-to-day situation, so stay tuned on this one. Justin Turner is the likely replacement if Wright misses a few days. Jordany Valdespin could also fill in, if needed.

New York Mets OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis (knee) could make the opening day roster over INF Omar Quintanilla. Nieuwenhuis returned over the weekend and is only 2-for-26 (.077) this spring. 2Bs Jordany Valdespin or Justin Turner would be counted on to play shortstop if anything were to happen to SS Ruben Tejada if Nieuwenhuis makes the roster over Valdespin.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said the team will stick with their current stable of outfielders - OFs Lucas Duda, Collin Cowgill, Marlon Byrd, Mike Baxter and Jordany Valdespin. Byrd figures to have the best chance for an everyday role at the moment.
Fantasy Tip: The most common outfield alignment will probably involve Duda, Cowgill and Byrd. None are ringing endorsements for mixed leagues unless you're in a cavernous format. NL-only leagues are a different story.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said 3B David Wright (intercostal) has a better chance of being on the opening day roster than 2B Daniel Murphy (intercostal). 2B Jordany Valdespin could start at second base and 2B Justin Turner (ankle) could start at third if both Wright and Murphy begin on the disabled list. Turner is expected to start in a spring game Friday, March 22, after dealing with a sprained right ankle.
Fantasy Tip: This situation is very fluid with all of the injuries. Keep an eye on the Wright and Murphy in the final days of spring training. Valdespin seems to be the biggest beneficiary and could become a valuable utility man in NL leagues to start the year.

Fantasy Tip: Valdespin has impressed Collins in camp with his performance and position versatility. With both David Wright (intercostal) and Daniel Murphy (intercostal) dinged up, Valdespin could get plenty of early-season PT.
