New York Mets 1B Ike Davis could still be sent to the minors, and manager Terry Collins isn't ruling out using OF Lucas Duda or 2B Daniel Murphy at first as a replacement. Duda has been taking grounders at first. OFs Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Mike Baxter could serve as the corner outfielders against righties if Duda is moved to first base. INFs Jordany Valdespin, Zach Lutz or Josh Satin could be recalled if Davis is demoted.

The New York Mets have optioned INF Jordany Valdespin to Triple-A Buffalo. Manager Terry Collins indicated he would primarily play second base for Buffalo, even though he had played mostly center field during his first stint in the minors this season.

New York Mets INF Jordany Valdespin had a pinch-hit three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning Monday, May 7, against the Philadelphia Phillies for his first major league hit. "It was a great moment for me," Valdespin said. "(Philadelphia Phillies CL Jonathan Papelbon) is one of the best closers in the big leagues. They called me last night and told me to be ready."

New York Mets INF Jordany Valdespin will start at shortstop Tuesday, May 8, but SS Ronny Cedeno (intercostal) is expected to return from the disabled list this weekend. Cedeno is scheduled to play five innings in an extended rehab game Monday, May 7.

New York Mets SS Ruben Tejada (quadriceps) left the game Sunday, May 6, against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to a strained right quadriceps muscle. Tejada was sent for an MRI Sunday. INF Jordany Valdespin, optioned to Triple-A Buffalo, is being summoned to join the team in Philadelphia in case Tejada is forced to the 15-day disabled list.

The New York Mets activated RP D.J. Carrasco (ankle) from the 15-day disabled list after his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo Saturday, May 5. The team optioned INF Jordany Valdespin to Buffalo in the corresponding move.
