Fantasy Tip: Valdespin is playing a super utility role with the Mets, leaving him as an option mainly in NL-only leagues. He'll become a bit more valuable if he's playing often at second base, but it's unlikely that Murphy is benched outright.

Nieuwenhuis returned over the weekend and is only 2-for-26 (.077) this spring. 2Bs Jordany Valdespin or Justin Turner would be counted on to play shortstop if anything were to happen to SS Ruben Tejada if Nieuwenhuis makes the roster over Valdespin.

Byrd figures to have the best chance for an everyday role at the moment. Fantasy Tip: The most common outfield alignment will probably involve Duda, Cowgill and Byrd. None are ringing endorsements for mixed leagues unless you're in a cavernous format. NL-only leagues are a different story.

Turner is expected to start in a spring game Friday, March 22, after dealing with a sprained right ankle. Fantasy Tip: This situation is very fluid with all of the injuries. Keep an eye on the Wright and Murphy in the final days of spring training. Valdespin seems to be the biggest beneficiary and could become a valuable utility man in NL leagues to start the year.

However, he left the game early after being hit by a pitch in his groin. "I'm good," Valdespin said. "I'm good. Everything is fine. The doctor said nothing bad. Everything is good. Everything is working normally. Everything is right." Valdespin is batting .370 (10-for-27) with six RBIs in spring training, and he'll continue to see time in the outfield, according to manager Terry Collins. Valdespin is likely directly competing with OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis now. At this point, Valdespin seems to be a lock for the roster.

Manager Terry Collins said he's "still searching" for options in the outfield. Valdespin will likely have to beat out 2B Justin Turner or OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis for a spot on the roster.

OFs Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who is hitless in his last 15 at-bats, and Collin Cowgill are the favorites to platoon in center, but OF Matt Den Dekker is entering the picture. However, Den Dekker is unlikely to earn a roster spot, and he's not currently on the 40-man roster.
