Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) was throwing 94-96 mph during the instructional league during his rehab, and he feels great about his health heading into spring training next year. However, he'll have to compete for a rotation spot after the team added SP Doug Fister in a trade. SPs Taylor Jordan, Tanner Roark, Ross Ohlendorf, Nathan Karns and Sammy Solis are other options to compete with Detwiler. He could also serve as a lefty reliever out of the bullpen.

The Washington Nationals designated Ps Fernando Abad and Tyler Robertson for assignment Wednesday, Nov. 20. The team also selected the contracts of P Sammy Solis and OF Michael Taylor from Class A Potomac, and the contract of P Aaron Barrett from Double-A Harrisburg.

Washington Nationals SP Sammy Solis (elbow), will have Tommy John surgery Tuesday, March 6, according to general manager Mike Rizzo. Solis was diagnosed with a torn ulterior cruciate ligament in his left elbow after visiting with a team doctor.

There is still no update on the health of P Sammy Solis (elbow), who has been battling elbow soreness. Solis has visited with team doctors, and renowned Dr. Lewis Yocum about the soreness, but he is dealing with strep throat. Once he is well, he'll re-visit the doctors and decide on a course of action.

Washington Nationals SP Sammy Solis (elbow) has visited with doctor Lewis Yocum in recent weeks after having elbow pain in the Arizona Fall League. The team is expected to know more on his injury in a few days. "We're not going to Tommy John yet," general manager Mike Rizzo said of Solis. "That's way down the road but there is concern, yes. Whenever you have elbow soreness, it's concerning."
