Kevin Gausman Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Kevin Gausman MLB and fantasy baseball news
Thu, 23 May 2013 13:49:18 -0700 The Baltimore Orioles optioned SP Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk and designated RP Alex Burnett for assignment Thursday, May 23, to make room on the 40-man roster for SP Kevin Gausman.
Tue, 21 May 2013 20:09:33 -0700 The Baltimore Orioles are expected to recall SP Kevin Gausman from Double-A Bowie to start Thursday, May 23, against the Toronto Blue Jays, an industry source confirmed Tuesday, May 21. Gausman is 2-4 with a 3.11 in eight start for Bowie, posting just five walks with 49 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings. Fantasy Tip: Gausman, the team's top pick in last year's draft, is worth adding in all AL-only fantasy leagues and long-term keeper formats. He is also worth taking a chance on in deeper mixed leagues.
Tue, 14 May 2013 14:34:58 -0700 Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman isn't a candidate to be moved to Triple-A Norfolk, and he isn't close to being called up to the majors. Fantasy Tip: Gausman is the team's second top pitching prospect behind Dylan Bundy (forearm), who is currently working his way back from injury. Gausman could be a September call-up, but don't expect him to contribute to keeper league rosters any time soon. Jair Jurrjens is the front-runner to come up and start this Saturday.
Wed, 01 May 2013 15:54:48 -0700 Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman has 29 strikeouts and just one walk while pitching 28 2/3 innings with Class AA this year. SP Freddy Garcia will start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Saturday, May 4, but Gausman may be ready to come up to the majors before long. Garcia is 4-0 with a 2.67 ERA at Triple-A Norfolk and can opt out of his contract if he's not in the majors by May 15. SP Jair Jurrjens, who is 2-1 with a 2.64 ERA at Norfolk, could also be in front of Gausman. Jurrjens can opt out June 15. The Orioles may want to keep Gausman in the minors until June to prevent him reaching Super 2 status and gaining an extra year of arbitration. Gausman is 1-3 with a 3.77 ERA, but he's allowing more than a hit per inning. Fantasy Tip: As Rosenthal discusses, don't expect the O's to recall Gausman anytime before June, after they've exhausted their other options to fill the No. 5 rotation spot. He'll likely need to move up to Class AAA before he makes the jump to the bigs, too. However, with Dylan Bundy (forearm) injured, Gausman's timetable for his major league debut was likely cut drastically. Keeper leaguers and owners in deep AL leagues should have your ears perked up.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 20:59:52 -0700 Baltimore Orioles Ps Jake Arrieta (blister), Zach Britton (blister) and Kevin Gausman (blister) each developed blisters on their pitching hand Sunday, March 31. Gausman was shut down as a precaution, while Arrieta stuck with fastballs and changeups to alleviate pressure on the inside of his middle finger where the blister formed. Britton's blister popped, and he applied Super Glue to his thumb to keep pitching.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 13:36:05 -0700 The Baltimore Orioles optioned SP Kevin Gausman to Double-A Bowie and reassigned 1B Travis Ishikawa to minor league camp. RP Tommy Hunter has made the team as a reliever. Fantasy Tip: Gausman really impressed the team this spring, and he'll be closely monitored in the minors this year. You should monitor him closely, as well, if you're in a keeper league. He's a candidate to be a September call-up this year.
Sat, 16 Mar 2013 10:10:18 -0700 Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman will make at least one more start in major league camp before the organization decides where he will be assigned.
Thu, 14 Mar 2013 14:37:46 -0700 Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter said SPs Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman are staying in major league camp because they still have plenty of opportunities to learn before spring training is over. "They keep getting feedback and filing information away. What they get is invaluable. There's still things here they won't get in Twin Lakes. As long as the innings are there... We have a split-squad coming up. I'll leave that in Rick (Adair's) hands. He's very good with that," Showalter said.
Tue, 12 Feb 2013 10:43:49 -0800 Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter said SPs Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman will be options for the team in September this year, and the team will carefully monitor them this spring.
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 09:51:47 -0800 Baltimore Orioles vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette confirmed that the team is looking to add a middle-of-the-order bat at the winter meetings this week, and they're likely to seek it through the trade market. "We also have more qualified major league pitchers than we have slots," said Duquette, who also indicated top prospects Kevin Gausman and Dylan Bundy could be in Baltimore at some point next season. "All those things are good things, right? So, we have a surplus as perceived by other teams that we can make a trade that could help us in other areas."
