Los Angeles Dodgers OF Joc Pederson (oblique) has not played at Double-A Chattanooga since Wednesday, July 3, due to a strained oblique muscle. Pederson was selected to play in the Futures Game July 14, but his status is uncertain at this time.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are willing to trade a veteran piece on their roster in order to add prospects that could help them out beyond this season, and OF Andre Ethier is the name most mentioned in trade rumors. They are also willing to carry Ethier as a fourth outfielder for the rest of the season as insurance. OF Yasiel Puig's emergence has made Ethier expendable, and OF Joc Pederson is a year away from making his impact at the big league level. Los Angeles seems content to stick with 3B Juan Uribe at third base.
Fantasy Tip: Whether the team trades Ethier likely depends on how confident they are in Carl Crawford (hamstring) returning to full health. Ethier would likely benefit from a change of scenery, especially if it's somewhere that will guarantee him consistent playing time.

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Joc Pederson was named to play in the Futures Game at Citi Field during the All-Star Game festivities in New York next month.
Fantasy Tip: The team feels he is about a year away from making an impact in the majors. Those in long-term keeper fantasy leagues will want to stash him away now, however.

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Joc Pederson was not in the lineup for Double-A Chattanooga Thursday, May 30, and OF Yasiel Puig is starting in center field.
Fantasy Tip: Pederson is hitting .313 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs in 192 at-bats with Chattanooga this year and is the club's other top outfield prospect besides Puig. Pederson has never played above Class-AA ball, however, meaning he could be in for a rough transition if he's called up. Keep that in mind if you elect to spend on him in mixed leagues.

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed OF Matt Kemp (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, May 30. RP Stephen Fife (shoulder) was activated from the DL and optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque, and C Tim Federowicz was recalled from Albuquerque.
Fantasy Tip: Kemp has been a major disappointment for his fantasy owners. He missed two months last year with a hamstring ailment, and his second-half power and speed suffered. This hamstring injury isn't believed to be as serious, but it could linger if he's not careful.
Scott Van Slyke will reap the benefits of more frequent playing time with Kemp out, making him more intriguing in deep mixed affairs. Skip Schumaker and Jerry Hairston Jr. might be mixed in at center field, too. Federowicz could be an addition to NL-only rosters that start two catchers. Don't rule out the Dodgers getting desperate and summoning Joc Pederson or Yasiel Puig, either. Pederson wasn't in the lineup at Double-A Chattanooga tonight, meaning a call-up could be imminent.

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (hamstring) isn't in the lineup Thursday, May 30.
Fantasy Tip: Get Kemp out of your daily lineups. If he doesn't land on the disabled list, which seems likely, expect him to miss at least a handful of games. Scott Van Slyke will benefit from Kemp's absence in the meantime. If Kemp hits the DL and the Dodgers elect to bring up Joc Pederson or Yasiel Puig, that'll be a different story.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly didn't deny that he wasn't sending a message by benching OF Andre Ethier Wednesday, May 22, after Ethier made the wrong read on a safety bunt squeeze and was thrown out at the plate Tuesday, May 21. "There's a touch of a difference between saying you're giving your best effort and you're willing to fight for something," Mattingly said. "Some guys go to another level for that price, will do whatever it takes to win a game … that inside, you're not beating me today. There's something there you can't measure with SABR-metrics. You can't put a number on it."
Fantasy Tip: Ethier looks to be in the dog house a bit here, but it remains to be seen if that means more playing time for Scott Van Slyke. Ethier's production has dropped in recent seasons, and it may be just another reason why the Dodgers are considering calling up Yasiel Puig and Joc Pederson.
Wed, 22 May 2013 09:24:00 -0700
Los Angeles Dodgers OFs Yasiel Puig and Joc Pederson have been discussed as possible call-ups, according to manager Don Mattingly.
Fantasy Tip: Puig, 22, had an incredible spring but wasn't realistically an option prior to the season because of his lack of experience about advanced Class A ball. Pederson, 21, didn't have much of a chance to showcase his abilities in ST for the same reason. Puig (.314/.385/.579, 10 stolen bases) and Pederson (.327/.400/.554, 13 stolen bases) have dominated in the Double-A Southern League in the early going. This is indicative of how desperate the Dodgers may be, but the promotion of either might be rash and thus seems unlikely. Still, both players are clearly on a fast track and would deserve immediate fantasy consideration because of their upside.

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially announced the names of their minor leaguers invited to next week's winter camp. While OF Yasiel Puig will not be in attendance, Ps Zach Lee, Chris Reed and Chris Withrow will be there, as well as the team's 2012 minor league player of the year, OF Joc Pederson.

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed 11th-round pick OF Joc Pederson to a deal that included a $600,000 signing bonus, ESPNLosAngeles.com's Tony Jackson reports. Pederson would have been a higher draft selection if he hadn't scared teams off by announcing he was seeking a $1 million bonus to give up his scholarship to University of Southern California.
